@@living_peace reality isn't as dangerous as what media shows you. But yeah, being foreigners going far away from cities could be slightly dangerous a bit not only these days but during all the times.

Life in Lebanon has become more difficult for us as local citizens..so it is surprising that you can still deal with these situations as a foreigner..In addition, we admire your attempt to live among the popular neighborhoods and project a more beautiful picture of details in our country, specifically those that the tourist who does not see (they usually goes to hotels and resorts.)

As a Lebanese Canadian, a Beirut-raised and lover, you have brought me back to those lovely areas. How much I appreciate that you prioritize family-run businesses, espcially in those terrible times where regular people need the most help .... This is a noble way of thinking, encouraging the local market and small hidden shops ... I give Lebanese dialect lessons to foreigners in Montreal and your video will be very useful both on the touring level and the linguistic one. Which makes me just wish you used more Arabic words while making your grocery shopping :--) Yaatikoun el Aafieh w alf sahha!

Your videos feel very natural and help the viewer get a a feel of the places you guys visit, the real people and daily life in other lands. I´m all for supporting small, and local mom-and-pop businesses. I grew up in Montreal where there is a large Lebanese community and visiting their cozy, small restaurants was something I miss. Their Tabbouleh salad and Hummus and overall cuisine is second to none! God bless!

You're right. I was there in 2003, a long time ago. My Lebanese friends took me out to the Pussycat Club where we danced and drank. The young people there love to have a nice time going out to enjoy themselves. When I was there the Syrian army was all over Lebanon even in the Bekaa Valley. Then the Lebanese got the courage to kick them out. I feel sad with what's happening there. I pray that things turn around. The Lebanese are a great people derived from the ancient Phoenicians.

Ahmed, keep in mind that the official rate that you will find online is not accurate. Lebanon is in the midst of a financial crisis of hyperinflation right now, so there is a black market rate that changes daily (even multiple times per day) to account for this extreme currency inflation. 19K lebanese pounds was for both the olives and cheese and was worth less than $1 USD at the time 😊

I quantity and the variety of fruits and vegetables in this store is more than what you can find in the supermarket near my house in the USA.

It's not that long since every country had small specialised shops, but before your lifetimes.

Nice, raw, real video..like the way you interact with locals and they with you guys. You seem more at ease now in this video after living there for a bit. Quick observation regarding Supermarket vs small shops. The supermarket you mentioned was Spinneys which tends to be more expensive. There are many other similar supermarkets that are not as pricey. Some of them are called Taawoniyet ( coop). As far them selling food that is spoiled, I think this is a new thing that most likely has to do with the current economic situation where shoppers are not purchasing as they used to and as a consequence food tend to stay on the shelf for longer. It's not an excuse for them to keep spoiled food but I guess so many things are going wrong in the country right now that quality control is not a priority at the moment. I'm just speculating anyway.
I hope Lebanon come back to the way it used to be and you get a chance to revisit the way it really is and not during that dark moment.
    Yaatiki el afieh ;)

I live in Ventura/Oxnard near the beach. There are SO many Loquat trees here! The only problem with Loquats is they have a Very short growing season here. Is it the same in Lebanon? They are ripe for about 2-3 weeks before badly bruising and turning Brown. I have to pick and freeze them so I have enough for Jam. They last only 1-3 Days fresh after picking. The Jam is Delicious and worth it though! What part of California? I am born and raised here 🤗💜

@@DianeTheCanningNana Yes! In Lebanon their growing season is also super short & they turn brown quickly as well. I was in San Diego, going to college at UCSD :D The next time I'm in the area during Loquat season I'll be on the lookout!
