Ep 5 Dirang to Tawang sightseeing.| Sela Pass | Jaswantgarh War Memorial Tawang | Arunachal Pradesh

- Dirang to Tawang is a distance of 140 km, If you drive non stop via sela pass you can do this journey in 4 hours but as a tourist this can be anytime between 7 hours to 9 hours.
We started from Dirang at 5.45 am and reached Tawang at 8 pm, because we took a lot of halts on the route.
Date of journey - 13th april 2022
Following are the details of our journey -
Breakfast at Hotel Samjhana a local dhaba- This eatery opens at 7 am morning , located at a distance of 13 km from Dirang.
We were served food in Bell metal thali, Dal, Patta gobi, Rajma, Baingan ki bhaji, Taste was homely.
Nyukmadung War Memorial - It is constructed for the soldiers who laid down their life for the nation on 17th Nov 1962 Indo-China War. It is quite near to the place where we had breakfast.
Multiple halts before Sela pass - You would also love to halt and take few pics before you reach Sela.
Sela Pass - located at 13700 ft. There are 3 lakes at Sela pass, view of each lake is beautiful, you would love to visit all the 3 lakes and take some pics.
We also had maggie at one of the eateries near sela lake.
Jaswantgarh war memorial - This is located at 21 km distance from Sela pass.
In this memorial we got to know lot of insight about the 1962 war, how india fought with the Chinese on 17th Nov 1962.
Since there was heavy fog after we left the war memorial, so we could not visit Jung waterfall, so we visited this fall on our way back from Tawang.

I also noticed the same thing about garbage everywhere in Arunachal. I was carrying an umbrella with me at Sela lake, I used it to pick as much as plastic bottles and wrappers as I can. It was nice feeling doing that. I request all to do something.

Harish ji one correction. It was political unpreparedness which lead to loss. The goct could not reinforce the frontiers...they faught without food ,without weapons just because our political leadership believed hindi chini bhai bhai... they caught us absolutely unprepared. Also indian air force approached the PM for 7 days to allow them to strike China but they were not given permission. At that time we were far advance than Chinese air force...without air support, weapons and food we lost

On your comment on getting hungry frequently, that's because of very cold weather. Our body needs much more energy to keep it warm than than in regular weather. Thus it is a very common practice to keep Bananas and Chocolate while traveling in such places like in Norway or Canada.

The video was good but while visiting Jaswanthgarh you forgot to visit the bunkers that were built back in 1960s…. I’ve been there and it’s really amazing to see how the soldiers planned and executed their mission and watched the borders while living in such bunkers which had no electricity and were dark and cold…. They are like time machines and gives a beautiful glimpse of how it used to be back in those times…. While inside the bunkers for a moment it seemed as if all the posthumous lives had come to life around us and are in action for that day….i was waiting the entire video for you to cover that part of the post however glad that you showed the tree and the belongings of our soldiers

I have travelled the length and breadth of Arunachal Pradesh. The people here are among the most gracious and welcoming in the world, esp the tribes of Eastern Arunachal Pradesh and Apatani and Buddhism tribes of Tawang ,Bomdila area. However, I had some bad experiences in Daporijo , Itanagar and Seppa. In Itanagar a motorcyclist rammed our car from behind and instead of apologising to us he started bashing our driver when we tried to intervene he threatened us too and then he took our keys and told us to follow him . After much negotiations in a small hotel , surrounded by 30 of his supporters , he decided to feel sorry for us , according to him , and let us go but only after we paid him 20000 from his original demand of Rs.200000 . When we tried to involve a police man ,he advised us to settle it among us and walked away. I still remember the guys parting message in his crooked English, we are tourists that's why he let us go so easily otherwise his tribe ( Nishi ) only settle blood for blood and vehicle for vehicle. Surprisingly non came to help us inspite of knowing that it wasn't our fault and that he hit us from behind on a free Highway and instead were shouting at us. In Daporijo, two boys snatched our cameras accusing us of filming without their consent,wheras we were taking videos of the river and mountains and not people. After much negotiations and slapping my husband,they returned our cameras in exchange for Rs. 10000 and deleted our whole footage of Daporijo and nearby areas. . The local guide assured us that we were lucky with the excuse that they were drunk. In the hotel too we were made to pay twice the tariff citing a sudden and inexplicable rise. However when we enquired from other local boarders ,they claimed no such information and were paying the regular rates.
But the worse was in Seppa , right from our hotel owners and boys to the local guide and the people there, everyone spoke to us rudely. We nearly got bashed badly by the river side where we were angling after a group of boys came and threatened to chop us to pieces for fishing in their river. We explained that we took permission and paid money to a village head and showed them the papers too ,but they refused to belive us and tore the permission and started throwing our belongings in the river. The guide then told them we would pay to compensate for our mistakes and then only they took a breather and stopped their act to talk . While we were discussing the amount a youth leader or whome one of our friends knew and had called came and talked with those boys. They had a huge argument, wherein the leader made a call and a dozen or so people came and joined him. Finally,we were let to go without paying anything,but the leader told us that it would be better if we left Seppa ,since he wouldn't be present all the time to protect us. We took his advise and hurried out the very night to Bomdila. We were apprehensive of any more misunderstanding between us and the locals but it soon changed ,as the people in Bomdila,Tawang were much more friendly and welcoming. After that we toured only the places suggested by our travel agency and fortunately we got to see the better side of Arunachal Pradesh in Namsai , Roing ,Anini ,Pasighat etc and from our earlier unheeded adventures Ziro , Tawang, Bomdila etc.
Since that episode ,we have visited Arunachal twice ,but kept it confined to Ziro and Menchuka and Tawang only, because our earlier experience had badly shaken us. However,we were comforted with the knowledge that even other Arunachalees were subjected to such treatment from these people and thus we shouldn't feel that since we were outsiders they had mistreated us in that manner.
