- This video is part of a series that explores several metrics for measuring skylines. / watchv=bdlz4_wmuly&lis...
This video is a listing of the tallest US metropolitan skylines based on the number of buildings approximating 200ft and taller within and includng the Central Business District (CBD) and surrounding areas. Approximating 200ft defined as 190ft or greater. All buildings less than 190ft were excluded. Also, all temples, silos, steeples, mast and transmission towers were excluded.
These three zones were delineated
Primary Zone (City Core)-
0-10miles from the CBD (CBD included )
Secondary Zone- 10-20miles from the CBD
Tertiary Zone- 20-30miles from the CBD
The Vast Majority of the metropolitan areas have most of their high-rises/skyscraper developments in the City Core.
Few cites have significant development Outside of the Core. Miami and Dallas are notable exceptions. Both cities have large secondary cities included in their metropolitan area ; Miami/ Ft Lauderdale and Dallas/Ft Worth. Most of the development in Fort Worth is within 30-30.5miles from Dallas, therefore it is included in the data
This ranking does not look at the beauty /esthetics of the skyline, only the height of the buildings. - Розваги
Superb work and presentation.
Thanks a lot.. Appreciate the views also
I like how you showed the radius on the map with the distance. Crazy how Dallas and Miami has more spaced out buildings, while places like NYC and Chicago have most of their buildings near the CBD.
Thanks for Viewing!
Nice work!
much thanks! I appreciate the views
I’m just here waiting on the inevitable, “Houston is bigger…” comments.
Thanks for viewing. Houston , Seattle and LA are great cities but they are usually overrated in terms of skyline might..San Francisco is significantly underrated; Honolulu is usually forgotten and Atlanta is usually a shocker because most people are not aware of the unprecedented amount of growth (construction) that has been occurring in its downtown/midtown area.
@@TheSkylineKing yeah it’s been wild watching Atlanta grow. Earlier I was at Northside and 17th and commented on how much they’ve built. They’ve filled in almost every visual gap between the north end of midtown down to where the new NFS HQ is. It looks good imo because most of the buildings are about the same height which makes it look dense. But it would really be nice to get some new taller buildings to change the skyline.
I was hoping the midtown union project would look taller. It is a great addition and is helping fill out the north end of midtown along with the other stuff they built there and the scad building under construction.
@@george_cantstandya It's an amazing amount of growth.. In about 6-8 months it's going to look even more incredible when everything that's currently at 1-3stories starts to pierce the sky.
@@TheSkylineKing anything tall in the works? I saw today the new hotel by MB stadium will add height to that area.
@@george_cantstandya there's the tower at 1072WPchtree, 61stories 734ft, they are awaiting the soon coming end of the usps lease (they have already found a new location), 1020 SpringSt (Portman) just filed land dev permit for a 30story office tower. (should end up being in the mid400s.) Signia Hotel(MBS) will be 463ft, 1018WP (2 towers,37 and 35 floors) should also be in the mid400s also.
Chicago math is wrong
thanks! The final tally is correct, however the zones should read 899, 6 and 8 (instead of 6 in the 20-30mile range) for the total of 913
San Francisco is so underrated as a skyline. LA is probably the most overrated and its skyline is small considering it's population. Atlanta is very close to me, I love it's unique skyline. It's built a lot like NYC in terms of how it's midtown and downtown are expanding. I can't wait for it to fill in the gaps between the two with a few more buildings
Thanks for viewing. ATL is certainly filling in quite nicely with a lot more to come
San Francisco and Seattle should fall in 3rd and 4th positions following New York and Chicago.
So true !!!
@@johnnitis228 Why should they be? Miami at #3 has Twice the amount of buildings over 200 feet than San Francisco.
You COMPLETELY missed downtown Saint Paul being 9 miles southeast of downtown Minneapolis and its having a couple dozen buildings above 200 feet.
Thanks for viewing. All of St Paul and other cities within 10 miles of the metro was included. Maplewood and Eden Prarie would add 2 in the 10-20mile range .
nyc: hood my beer
More like "hold my Keg"! Thanks for viewing!
