YES! Thank you so much for talking about this - I also feel the urge and obligation to go bak on my monthly/now cyclic overviews. Even though it's not nessesacy! With you pointing it out, it became more clear to me what has actually happened in my head, and I think I can be more chill and forgiving for myself now, and more precise in my intetions with the spread!

8:06 All my calendar events go into my future log until that month gets a calendar setup, and then everything is put on the monthly calendar. I also have a nightly action of starting the next day's daily with a list of the day's events to make sure I'm prepared.
It helps me to have only one place to look up or add events depending on if it's the current day, current month, or future month. I've also stopped using a digital calendar (except for shared work calendars for meetings and days off) as a side effect of bullet journaling. The only downside for me has been scheduling get-togethers when I'm out with friends--I have to wait to get home to confirm availability--but it hasn't been too much of an issue.
Yeah I’ve been trying to rely more on my digital calendar this year and it’s working somewhat, but not everything had made it in there 😅
Gorgeous tapes! ❤I think the thing I am most impressed with is actually your amazing layout planning before you even put pencil to paper. I am getting better at thinking it through...sometimes! It really depends on how much time I have that month. I love when things line up like your photo area behind the dutch door. I can't tell you how many times I have thought about what will show behind a dutch door on the page to the right, I always forget to look at the left side after I have turned the page! Must be because of my motto, "Never look back, walk tall, act fine." 😆
Haha 😂 yeah the Dutch door cutting off part of the layout underneath is a fear that’s yet to happen, but I’ma hold out as long as I can! 💪
OMG your latest Planner Pals podcast still has me in giggles when I think of it! 🎈I love this washi tape set and had to buy it as soon as it came out - dragons are my favourite - and how you've used it on your spreads looks beautiful! I might have to pinch a few of your ideas! It's great to see that your gorgeous butterflies last month encouraged you to use your journal a bit more, especially when they weren't massively time consuming to do. I love how your videos make bullet journaling both beautiful, but still accessible for everyone.

That tape is sooo pretty! I'm going back to basics for April. I've stopped using my BuJo 2 weeks ago, so obviously something isn't working. It's new notebook time for me too so I'm taking it as an opportunity to start fresh!

While I rarely update my monthly log after setup (unless something has happened for the same month) I do have a routine to refer to it once a week. It's the first spread I refer to when filling out my weekly to-do lists for the coming week. Any events are the first thing I put into those to-dos, it acts as a mind of a reminder for me that it's a thing that is happening

I use my mothly log exclueively for future planning. I only set up the weekly spreads right before the week starts so everything that doesn't fall into the current week will end up in the monthly log. I check it once a week for setting up the new weekly. If something comes up for the current week, I'll just write it down in that weekly spread. Reminders ("last time I went to the dentist") have their own spread in my journal.
Wow, I wish I had the patience you do, though to be fair I think I'd still be creating the spreads if I did, they take me ages haha 😂
This one was actually one of my quicker setups thanks to the tape! 💜
I used those tapes in my March pages. I ended up cutting the wide tapes into four strips which ended up looking just like colorful washi.

I love the washi for this cycle. Being new, I am struggling to get my set ups complete and decorated before the cycle starts, but I know that will come in time. I have found I am using my habit trackers most, but each month I am adding a spread or two more to try them. Thank you for always sharing your thoughts on why you set up the way you do. This has helped me to be very mindful in creating my own. I decided my decor for this month to be the little red cap mushrooms, and though the mushrooms themselves have not appeared into the pages, I have a hinting element that makes me smile just to look at it..

im glad to finally see an april theme not based around flowers! I live in a tropical country in the northern hemisphere, but here spring is mid february-mid april so it doesn't fit the vibe,,,, love the dragons!!
I've stopped setting up a "calendar" page. I just don't use it. And it works for me

That washi tape is so pretty! I totally don't check any earlier set up pages in my journal.... so right now I have 2 journals. One with a week overview and one for dailies 😂 though it's more due to size. I have a thin B6 notebook and I really love using it, so I started putting daily logs in it. Before I only had weeklies in my old A5 (it already has 2022 and 2023 in there... I'm so consistent 😂), but I find that one too large to take with me everywhere.

Monthly log: I update mine through-out if it's something that I need to remember. I don't use a future log, and while I do put stuff in my phone, not everything gets put in. If I just quickly flip to the monthly, I'll jot it down, and it's ready for me when I set up my dailies.
I got my first official fountain pen in the quarterly sub box, and I'm obsessed. I even like the fingerprints I end up leaving on the page when I fill it up 😂

it's pretty interesting how most people say they don't end up being consistent with their monthly log while for me the whole of march has 1 weekly spread (bcz I wasn't consistent and ended up not setting the rest) and my monthly log is completely filled in.
it might have to do with how I use it though, for me I put all due tasks (assignments, hw, exams) and events and since new assignments and hw are always being given I tend to use it a lot more. it also might be that all due dates at once seems less intimidating than all individual steps of the work, so I use it more
I love the tape set! I'm trying to curb my washi purchasing, but that's definitely going on the wishlist. You also sold me on dot markers. I've got 2 zig sets and an Ohuhu set and I'm using them almost everyday for something. I've found using different color dots for different types of events/reminders on the monthly calendar is really helpful.

I have the same problem when it comes to monthly logs. i went from a 6x6 two page spread to a 4x5 one page spread for that same reason, ill use it as a weather tracker and just put my daily tasks on the one page weekly spreads

I'm still kinda new to bullet journaling. Coming towards the end of my first journal. Can I ask what you (anyone reading this) does when you set up April and at the end of that month, there's a number of pages left (20-ish) which sounds a decent number but NOT enough for a whole May setup and probably NOT going to think of 20 collections to fill up those pages? I mean, starting the month in one journal then finishing it in another is a possibility I guess, but then that means flipping between journals when I'm doing things like reflecting on my trackers
If there isn’t enough space for the whole month, I’ll typically move into a new notebook, but if there’s ALMOST enough, I’ll either try to cut down on what I set up to save space, or use a tip-in (or a few) to add extra pages to the notebook 😊
If I end up moving to a new notebook, I use the extra pages for a range of things (e.g. reflection, just for fun layouts, spare paper, etc)
