Lovely car
I love the 928 a timeless classic and a great car.
I have had my black 928 S4 manual since..1993, and it still puts a smile on my face each time I take it for a spin. A joy to drive, and a beautiful thing. Reliability isn't an issue so long as maintenance is properly done. Super comfortable, faster than anyone will ever need, will cruise smoothly at 200 km ph. The main problem is to find roads where to push it legally at this sort of speeds.

It wasn’t because the 911 wasn’t selling well. Porsche didn’t think they would be able to sell the 911 in America (their biggest market) with increasing oil crisis emissions and safety regulations of the early 1970’s. Basically they thought that the 911 had reached as far as they could feasibly take it from a development standpoint

The 928 is a great looking design, which in my opinion got better with the later models. I have been lucky enough to have a number of 928's through my hands over the years, having worked in the industry for over 40 years. I have an S4 in at present. What I will say in my opinion, is the 928 is a car that doesn't know what it's supposed to be. The 928 is a heavy car to drive, it has heavy steering which personally I think lacks feel, a heavy throttle pedal and even the doors feel heavy, the car just feels big. Is it a GT mile muncher or is it a sports car ? This for me is were the confusion begins. It has great grip and in the later models performance to match, early cars felt underpowered. As a relaxing GT it falls short and as a sports car its too big, numb and heavy and the manual gearbox cars have poor pedal spacing. Interiors lack a feel of overall quality but again have some good design ideas. All that said the 928 is well engineered and again in my opinion a design icon. Prices for 928's have fluctuated over recent years, but surely in the not too distance future these cars will become classics.
You clearly haven’t driven the OB’s and if you think the interiors lack quality you haven’t been in anything from the 70’s and 80’s. Only thing I agree with is the steering is heavy but it wasn’t meant to be a sharp car to drive. Early euro cars are in no way underpowered. In fact they are right on par with the 911 turbos of the day
@@928pcarToo right. You know your stuff. That’s not to say the person you are replying to doesn’t but I too thought it was a bit telling like they had never driven a good Euro OB, S or S2. These three models are nothing like the later 32v redesigned models. He is right that everything about the 928 across the board is heavy, and even that the cars have a ‘confused’ personality. For me those are actually the things I love about them. If I wanted a sports car I would have bought a 911 or a Lotus, and if I wanted a true pampering grand tourer I would have bought a Mercedes or an Aston.
The first 928 I owned was about 39 years ago a late 79 model with Pasche trim and 4.5 engine. Since then I have owned circa 7 or 8 928's including the S 4.7 in both manual and auto plus a GT and several S4's. Like I said, a great design icon and I think the 928 is a great car. Like I said its just my opinion.@@928pcar
Don't get me wrong I like the 928 and have owned the early cars 4.5 L with Pasche trim and the later S 4.7L in both manual and auto. My first 928 experience was way back in1985. My trade for many years has been in restoration and sales of classic cars from pre war up to the 1990's@@chesswizard31
