It's been about a month since my last NWA TNA review so lets dive back in. This episode will all be about the first big TNA main event between Jeff Jarrett and Raven. Unfortunately the match is bad and has one of dumbest endings of all time making Raven look like a complete fool!
The fans who threw the papers into the ring were known as the "heel section", mega-TNA fans that posted a lot online. People had gotten really sick of "Triple J" Jarrett at that time, and Raven had a lot of momentum. After this show, TNA management actually forced the heel section fans to scatter to seats all over the building and soon after this, the guy who ran the biggest TNA fan site shut it down when his coverage of TNA went negative (He says Jeremy Borasch and TNA wrestlers actually began prank calling his house).
That’s interesting I did notice those heel section shirts. Infact kid kash rocked one!
@@Markyd123 Raven had a lot of momentum 🤣🤣. At what drugging himself into oblivion! 🤣🤣

Just for some added context the story goes that the TNA fans were so hyped for the Raven vs Jarrett match that they had to turn fans away from the arena because they reached max capacity. At least that's the story they tell on the History of TNA Year 1 dvd. What they left out is that Raven losing pretty much killed all of TNAs hype and momentum in Nashville and they supposedly never drew another crowd that big in Nashville again.
Yeah I remember, it was the hottest thing TNA ever did. The fans were ready for Raven to win the title and dethrone Jarrett. So what did TNA do? Fuck it up as always.
Johnny Polo really thought he could beat Slapnuts! 🤣
He did once

You get a thumbs up for the Geto Boys reference. Houston thanks you.
"The cab driver slam" is my new favorite wrestling maneuver/ finisher.
I like the Scott Hall sack of shit too.
Yeah thats actually a good finisher name
Can we all stop for a second and just appreciate how amazing of a talent Kid Kash was?
Trinity too. She was extremely good for a female wrestler of that time, heck, for a female wrestler period.
Every time. Dude was a beast
@@planescaped She came way to early. Imagine if she is in her prime in today's wrestling world. She would be top tier instantly.
@@HarmonySword She didn't need to wait nearly that long. Awesome Kong and Gail Kim had an amazingly good run and I can easily see them working Trinity into their match if she was still there at the time. I'd love to see Trinity vs Kim vs Awesome Kong at the height of their feud.
@@mikecabral2420 Yeah, that would have worked too. Could really see her as the face of the Knockouts division.
Jim Cornette blames "mudshow indie guys" for popularizing getting hit with a million moves and kicking out, but maybe he should start blaming Jeff Jarrett.
"HE'S STILL ABLE TO KICKOUT !!" : Mike Tenay
The Hawk's NWA TNA commentary amuses me. Don't make us wait so long. Make it quick or I'll grab my brick
All the drugs clouded Raven's judgement there.
Hands down the best Chanel that focuses on the original TNA era (Yeah the promotion was a manic mess but, the insanity added so much charm to it (IMO the Asylum era is the best it did have major A.D.D. but, it was always entertaining
RIP Jimmy Rave. Getting that mic time in heaven now.
I feel like halfway through his career Jeff Jarrett decided that he wanted to be Stone Cold, except he had none of the charisma, the look, the promos, the gimmick, the theme song, the finish and even his working style doesn't fit a brawler.
Well, it depends on how the wrestler booking himself, that is, if you look at Austin when he came to WWF, no fans cared about him and it was for 2 reasons:
1) Had a shitty gimmick like "The Ringmaster"
2) If you look at his entrance in Wrestlemania 12 you can practically see how the fans did not care about Austin
Seems like he wanted to be a version of Triple H. That's how he got the nickname Triple J. Triple H was no Stone Cold and Jarrett was no Triple H.
Those are orangutans not gorillas. You're sentenced to watch those ads until you get it right.
Glenn Gilbertti saying he's gifted is like a video game character saying "It's not a video game".
He is "Gifted" like 2K20 was an awesome game...
I dont think he deserves all that hate. He was pretty entertaining in WCW
@@HardcoreOreider because he was a designed joke in WCW
I honestly think his character and him at this time had a lot of potential to have his break out moment. To go from his joke identity to his new, attitude era persona... it's just that it was a bit late, it was happening in a promotion that was a bit shaky, and it was heavily involved with the stinkiest of Russo's smelly-boy storylines.
@@planescaped very good points dude
That springboard sunset flip from Trinity was nuts. I've never seen that done to someone leaning on the ropes. I've seen Jerry Lynn use it from the corner but this seemed ever more impressive.
She was well before her time, she actually was a good wrestler but the companys she was in was all about being divas
We definitely need a Trinity video, she was awesome
Really glad there is someone that is talking about TNA nowadays and actually growing their channel. Good stuff right there.
Markyd, your the shit bro I swear. It’s amazing how certain things can take your mind off of the crazy shit in the world and give you a good laugh. I appreciate all the effort you put into your vids, your sense of humor, and most of all “ a wild slapnuts appears (hell yea..) along with the obsession of bricks 😂. JUST FOR THE RECORD….ITS ALMOST GRACELAND TIME AND THE PISCO FIASCO, I’ll pay for your therapy fees now since you helped Barood 😂 cheers mate to a hell of a channel 🧱
Raven vs. Jarrett was easily the biggest match TNA had ever put on by this point. I wish they had kept the overbookung out of it.
Plus to add to that Raven shouldve won
5:50 "nobody's there to stop him, so he waits for brian lee" hahaha
keep up the great work Marky, it's awesome watching wrestling like this with your insight, really gets funny at times. Personal favorite is AJ styles with the chainsaw in the lockerroom
What an exchange LOL
AJ : If you're not out in the ring in 30 mins
S.E.X : 30 Minutes?
AJ : My mistake 30 seconds ,if you're not out there I'm Gunna start sawing off your body parts 😭🤣
Good grief, Jarrett makes the "Super Cena" booking look humble.
Super Cena? Super*man* thinks that's a ridiculous beating to take and still come out the victor.
Yeah man there's a reason why Jarrett had the "true reign of terror".
I always viewed HHH and Jarrett as the same guy.
@@micahjohnsonboxing6409 The only difference The Rock and Stone Cold were willing to work with Triple H.

In another dimension, Taker ran in and delivered 5 tombstones to Jeff Jarrett... upon kicking out at ONE, 2001 Triple H ran in to deliver one pedigree. This finally was enough to pin Double J.
He would have kicked out of an RKO off the Empire State Building.
Appreciated the geto boys reference in the beginning
Now I got the world swinging from my nuts. Damn it feels good to be a gangsta
I'm forever disappointed that we never got the Gorilla vs. Vince McMahon rivalry, with the winner getting the rights to the WWF name.
I'm still mad we never got Vince vs the Denver nuggets owner

What drugs was the Sandman on during that segment you ask?
All of them.
I remember watching nwa:tna around 2003 when this storyline with Jarrett/Raven was the main focus of the show. It was so clear to me from talking to fan's who used to be there in attendance and fan's who watched the show that they all wanted and anticipated Raven winning the NWA title. To then have that dashed with a Jeff Jarrett win, I remember being so annoyed by that ending and as you so rightly pointed out...Jarrett had the entire kitchen sink thrown at him and raven stupidly uncuffs him and loses. If you watch closely you can Borash telling fan's off for throwing rubbish. Raven eventually won the title two years to late sigh.
I also remember people who followed NWA:TNA complaining about Jeff Jarrett's death grip on the belt.
Wrestling companies kind of have to walk a fine line because you can't have fans book everything but you also have to give the fans what they want at some point. Otherwise it just feels like the company is trolling its audience and the fans will just give up. Who wants to be trolled by something they're watching for entertainment?
I remember the hype for Raven Vs Jarrett. From the Sunday Night Heat Raven success, to the Mcmahon fears Raven sign, Raven was a big signing for TNA at the time and they completely dropped the ball by not putting the belt on him!
Ahhh yes, the long storied friendship of Double J and Sabu.....?
I do like early TNA and how much you cover it. Its very interesting to watch and i find it funny how done you are with Mike Sanders and Disco Inferno
Too bad WWF didn't keep Disco. I wanted to see Stone Cold put the stunner on him...just for ripping off his finisher.
"He looks like Bret Hart ate Braden Walker" very astute observation of everyone's favourite Mike.
Hey you brought back the jimmy rave gag 🤣
The Raven and Jarrett match massively disappointed me. I believe Raven was actually at his best (post ECW) when he was in TNA from 02-05’ and they wait until 05’ when he’s (arguably still good and over) almost done with his original run with the company and then only make his reign last like 3 months. Seemed so unfair. The fans all wanted it, it reminds me of how abyss was so over and only got 1 short reign too.
Though Raven would win the title 2 years later, however, she would lose it to Jarrett a week before TNA debut on Spike.
Raven does eventually win the NWA Heavyweight title some years later. Then he dropped it a week later to Rhino, I think.
Nah he dropped it to Jeff Jarrett at a random Indy show. This was RIGHT before the debut on Spike so my guess is that TNA management wanted a “big name” for the 1st show as NWA champion. It’s also worth noting that Jarrett regained the NWA title 2 days before the Fox Sports Net debut of TNA Impact back in 2004.
Yh raven won the belt in 2005 and held the belt for 88 days which wasnt too bad but why did they wait so long. I wonder if the NWA wanted Jarrett since he was a recognisable name and was their favourite
@@tonware Raven should've been viewed as a big (or familiar) name considering the fact that he was in ECW when it aired on the same network under the TNN name
All I remember Jeff Jarrett win it back with help by American Most Wanted (Heel Turn)
Slapnuts was doing a meet and greet near me a few weeks ago. I almost went as a joke but that hack fraud wanted $70 for a photo opportunity, so that didn't happen.
I haven’t watched much Jerry Lynn except in these reviews. I may need to go and watch more of his matches.
I agree. I always knew of him and I must have seen a few of his matches but he never really stood out to me until these videos. Thankfully his WCW, ECW and WWE stuff is available on the WWE Network if you have access to it.
He was bloody brilliant in TNA
The amazing red actually looked pretty damn good in tna. Im surprised I haven’t seen him anywhere else
He runs his own promotion called House of Glory now and they upload their stuff to UA-cam if you're interested. His last match there was against IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay.
Over the years Red also worked for Ring of Honor, AJPW and NJPW.
He's an extremely innovative and instrumental wrestler for many of today's best. Will Ospreay had a match with him (perhaps Red's retirement match) and credited A.R. with influencing his ring work. The likes of Kota Ibushi, Hiromu Takahashi, Young Bucks, and Omega do as well.
Props for the Geto Boys reference.
Someone mentioned that Erik Watts looks like a gymrat version of "Running With Scissors" era Weird Al Yankovic and I now literally cannot unsee it.
The Hawk's comomentary actually makes me interested on watching these NWA/TNA shows and/or matches. Amazing video, as always 🤘
Did anybody else notice violent by design on the back of Kash Shirt 🤣
Sabu! What a legend.
Save the gorillas Marky, they’ll keep staring into your soul otherwise
I’m shocked that this series introduced me to Jason Cross. You’d think more people would know about someone talented as Jason Cross appeared to be.
He's well known among hardcore fans at least.
Look up his work in NWA Wildside. Cross, AJ and Onyx were the guys I thought would take over wrestling and all 3 were there.
I went to a local wrestling show here in Vegas and a tag team came out to this theme song. When I realized this wasn’t the Hawk, I hit them both with a brick.
I wonder what Jeff Jarrett thinks of that T-shirt
Probably loves the attention!
Jeff Jarrett discovered Taylor Swift!! What a guy!!
Thanks, Marky, now I think David's Young's finisher is The Cab Driver Slam. I'm going to make Wes Brisco slide into your DM's now
I'd like to think that the ads were so Impact wrestling could say that the WWF was on their app.
You sound way too smart to be a WWE writer
12:07 That is a Elmur Fudd impression, not Bugs Bunny
I swear to god those 2 spinebusters on Lynn and Red gotta be one of, if not the best I've ever seen, holy shit.
I know it’s a minor thing in the vids, but I love the background music you have playing. Keep up the great work
Always good to see you review these old shows.
I was really into tna at this time, even drove 6 hours to Nashville for some shows. I can say first hand that the raven/slapnuts feud was the biggest thing in the company up to this point. Raven was over huge. This actually revitalized his career. People were so desperate for anything ECW that they really bought into it. I would argue that this feud, by proxy, made CM Punk a legitimate star. Raven was really hot coming off of it and used the momentum to put punk over in RoH.
_Jeff Jarrett gets shot with a shotgun in the chest at point blank range_
_kicks out at 2_
*Jeff Jarrett contracts dysentery*
*Kicks out at 2*
It’s kinda sad watching Jimmy Rave after his passing away back in December.
I didn't realize he had died. And of MRSA too. That's kind of strange because the kind of MRSA he almost certainly had is aggressive but can be treated with antibiotics. He must have just been really unlucky and that sucks.
The finish/result to that Raven vs Jarrett match epitomized what the Billy Madison meme of "YOU BLEW IT!" is aimed at companies that shoot themselves in the foot.
Damn, that Coachman burn was funny as hell.
The ecw guys run in after a ref bump in a no dq match, makes sense.
Wasn't expecting a Geto Boys reference from Markyd, but here we are 🤣
"This is when Sabin was on steroids" made me laugh more than I should have
Sabin looks like a different person on the gas, nearly unrecognisable
One tends to pick up a lot of interesting bits of info with this series, such as; I had no idea Trinity was not just a capable wrestler, but actually a really really damn good one. Shame we never got to see more of her on a bigger stage, she is one hell of an athlete.
There is a strange DTV action movie she was in in 2011 on Tubi for free that you could watch
She is able to do moves and not botch. Instantly making her the best female wrestler of the decade... :P
But no, she was really good.
I noticed how good she was a couple of videos ago and checked to see who else she wrestled for. I found that during her wrestling career she also spent a lot of time doing stunt work for movies. I think not being a full time wrestler may have held her back some. That's kind of a shame for wrestling fans because as you mentioned she can go in the ring.
@@planescaped Hell, in North America at least! Only the Joshi's were going strong at that time.
@@BiggieTrismegistus Surely the stunt gigs are far better and profitable than the vast majority of wrestling promotions. She was with WWECW for a spell, backing up the FBI. Not sure if she even had a match...

Thanks Markyd for the great videos for old wrestling
Dude! 20:48
The lift on this "Crossfire" move is Insane. How's he getting so high jumping at that angle? Doing a regular splash or just anything going more towards the middle of the ring seems easier to launch up and out towards, but to get that high while barely moving forward And multiple back flips? That's nuts.
It looked like some law of physics is almost being broken when i first saw it.
Whatever happened to that guy?

I can't believe Jeff thought he was that over. Kicking out of the pin after everything is just the dumb poo TNA did to feed his ego
Well, at the time his daddy (Jerry Jarrett) was part owner of the business, so it was not a huge surprise he booked his son as a champion. Similar to Bill Watts pushing his untalented son in WCW in the early 90s, when he was running things.
@jeff jackson yeah. Just weird to think he really thought he would be a draw for a new company.
Jeff dropped the ball with the overbooked contrived finish. Cornett had a problem with that in AEW with Sammy vs Lethal. Save some for the ppv or a future match, don’t overbook the finish to a tv match if it is not going anywhere
Slappy in full alcoholism mode right here.

Amazing Red is still spectacular as hewas back then
I can't believe you snuck in a Ghetto Boyz line in this one🤣🤣🤣🤣
For real tho, Saturn is decently athletic for being such a big guy. I've never understood the hype with Raven, I like his look and the stories he went with usually. But I just can't think of too many matches with him that I would consider spectacular or anything. And also that one match with Shark Boy has to be one of his best, dude was straight cleaning house 😅
Ravens draw was that he was an actual smart guy who got frustrated and said fucked it. A lot of people empathized with grunge look and him being a hedonistic drug user, opposed to the prep look he was given as Jonny polo so people lived vicariously through hin
Live for these vids man
TNA's hardcore division was like if someone heard what ECW was but never actually saw it.
Yknow I gotta say it.
He's got no personality but Mike Sanders is a pretty decent wrestler from what I've seen.
Sanders was a solid wrestler and capable of pulling off a very good match with a decent opponent. A 20 or so minute match with an AJ Styles would have been great. He kept noticably improving since his WCW days too, it's just...his persona on screen... it's so bad. It's like someone told him he is incredibly charming and a great talker and he took it to heart.
Is he Above Average?
I agree I’ve actually started enjoying him somewhat but he’s pretty much done with TNA at this point
I absolutely love listening to you dumping on Jeff Jarrett! Keep it coming!
So glad I found this channel, I really liked old school TNA. They had some extremely crappy gimmicks, storylines, and slapnuts, but it was at least entertaining
I love the geto boys reference
"He sits alone in a four-cornered room staring at candles" Nice Geto Boys\Scarface reference!
Also, I don't know why but the springboard inverted DDT AJ does is my favorite move ever.
Edit 2: is Goldilocks the worst backstage interviewer or what? She always looks mad or disgusted and rarely ever smiles... What a sourpuss!
There was a match where he did it but on 2 people one reverse and one normal ddt after the springboard of course
