To me this was the end of the Harry Potter trilogy of games. I say that because the first three feel very similar and seem like a combination of not only the books content but the movies as well. Every game after this was strictly based on the movies for the most part and even the likenesses of the characters were straight from the film's where as the first three have a more stylized look.
@@penguinthepurple yeah I agree. I did enjoy order the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince but even those were shorter in length than the original Three and despite being able to go all over Hogwarts those where somewhat smaller then the first three as well. And don't even get me started on the terrible Deathly Hallows games. Hopefully Hogwarts Legacy will live up to the original Three.
The first 3 Harry Potter games are a shining example of the Golden Age of licensing in video games during the early 2000s. Right up there with the likes of LOTR: Return of the King and Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith
@@Flandrew For whatever reason, the early and mid 2000s was a golden age for licensed video games. The weren’t game of the year material by any means but there’s a reason why people have such fond memories of these game and it’s not just because elf nostalgia * LOTR: Return of the King * Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith * Peter Jackson’s King Kong * Wolverine: Origins * Eragon * Scarface * The Warriors * Spider-Man 2 * Batman Begins * The Thing The list goes on and on. Wasn’t really anything like it before or even after
Please, keep doing these. This series is going to be a great warmup before Hogwarts Legacy's launch. I'll definitely rewatch and look for things to compare and see how the games evolved over the years.
And it bugs me that we still didn't get a wrap up of Golden Sun. After 8 years after TLA, we got Dark Dawn, which felt like forever. Now we're 12 years after Dark Dawn and we still don't have another Golden Sun game. GS1 and 2 definitely were the best games on GBA, my alltime favourite for sure
it looks more like they just changed assets etc. and called it a day, it even has these awful movable pillars, that were in every dungeon in golden sun 1&2
I played the PS2 version. Here are some of my memories of it: - Standing around casting the ice spell as Hermione all over the place, just because it looked cool. (no pun intended) - A fun duelling minigame against two teams, though it would sometime softlock and the next duel would never start. - Ron getting knocked down by Buckbeak every time he approached him. I didn't think it was possible to fly with Ron. - The music when Filch catches you, alongside his unsettling laugh. I hated those stealth missions. - Running into the sea. Cue splash sound effect, fade to black, loading screen and then you're back on land.
To this day my sister and I use Hermione's catchphrase (when you're legit doing extra objectives and finding secrets at the end of the day) "I can't think of anything else to do!"
Watching the beginning, I convinced myself I didn't play this game as a kid. Then you showed the PC gameplay and the memories immediately came flooding back. Thanks for reminding me of the childhood memories I'd completely forgotten about!
One fun and weird future Harry Potter game: Order of the Phoenix on DS. You actually battle by turning the DS. I don’t want to say much more to avoid spoilers, but it’s super unique. Only seen a couple games on the DS that have done that. Absolutely adored the GBA game as a kid. One of my favorites. I definitely suggest it to anyone that might be interested in playing it.
@@pattongilbert That’s Hotel Dusk, great game! It had a sequel too, but it doesn’t get brought up as often, possibly due to never getting a North American release. It came out here in the UK though and the DS has no region locking.
The first three games for HP were golden. I can't wait to hear your opinion swiftly changing on the later console releases. Starting with Goblet of Fire... Order of The Phoenix was slightly better. Would be the best of the 'bad games' ... Then the last ones... My gosh. They just became Harry Potter Call Of Duty. But total crap. 🤣🤣🤣
It always upset me that Quidditch was left out of the game, and wasn't given a little more focus in the Prisoner of Azkaban movie. The Third Year is where Harry WINS the Cup. He WINS it. It should have been touched on! It's a HUGE part of Harry's story imo. It's a bummer they left it out.
It's not something that bothers me about this game, because I always got stuck on the Quidditch levels previously, but I adore your enthusiasm - very Oliver Woodesque. (YOU CAN'T CANCEL QUIDDITCH!)
I would absolutely love to see future videos on the remaining Harry Potter games. Even though there aren’t different versions to compare, I feel like the series just gets so wild and random past this point that it’s still worth looking at.
The Gameboy version is nostalgia gold for me. The music is absolutely phenomenal, the art style and animation are gorgeous, and I love the RPG execution. It's everything I ever wanted a Harry Potter game to be, and replaying it years later is always fun. ...and also it's such a shame the following games were so terrible. I remember being so disappointed in the goblet of fire GBA game, and let's not even mention the fifth. Such a pity.
nah, they're ALL great (console versions that is), even the ones after this one especially, no idea where this is coming from to say they're "terrible" if you're talking about or mainly the console/PC versions, not too sure about the gba of Goblet of fire but the console version is overall a pretty good game for the gamecube.
@the gamer1288 LOL Just no, the 5th and 6th console are NOT "crAP" AT ALL, he 5th and 6th games have the same overall style of the first 3 games of castle exploration while wand dueling combat more than ever than puzzle environment solving. Goblet of fire feels more arcade based and I'm not too sure what the response is for that game but I remembered enjoying the gamecube version as it was overall fun as a whole. I didn't play the deathly hallow games but they do have a negative response to them.
@the gamer1288 Wouldn't say that the "combat" AT ALL is "much worse" as the game is wand duel combat HEAVY more than ever just like in the story. Don't know what you mean by "too much janitor busywork" at all because that's not something I recall at all.
I think the canon explanation as to why you can't use the broom was that since Sirius Black is at large they put a spell on Hogwarts' grounds so that no one can fly into the castle by broom. Thus why you have to rely on Buckbeak
That realistically wouldn't make sense, Otherwise in the Movie or Book, they wouldn't have been able to do Quidditch as the Quidditch Stadium is on Hogwarts Grounds. I just think The Dev's wanted to simplify the game's mechanics and add Buckbeak who is more related to the Story, and it would save them having to add 2 Forms of flight, as that would make Buckbeak redundant as a mechanic. as getting all the Potion Ingredients would be much simpler. and Don't forget, Harry loses his Broom in November 1993, which is when he falls off his broom and drifts to the whomping willow, so making a Broom Mechanic for this game when Harry loses it 3 Months into his School Year would again be a bit useless and a waste, as it wouldn't explain why he'd have a Firebolt in the other games, If they actually explain that in the others, I don't remember.
That and the firebolt was confiscated by Professor Mcgonagall for a complete tear down and spell strip as it was suspected that Black sent Harry the broom, which he did but not for any malicious reasons. In the movie, Harry didn’t get the firebolt until the very last scene
@@silentwraithuk What the top comment said DOESN'T make any sense, at all as it's not true. There is no canon explanation at all, for the game just simply wanted people to use buckbeak than the broom. That's all, so the OP comment is not valid at all and no idea where he got it at all. As for how he got the "firebolt", they just simply don't explain it at all as the game isn't considered with flying brooms unlike the goblet of fire book, game, and movie, which NEEDS the broom for obvious reasons.
@@Gadget-Walkmen Yeah, I haved read all the books, multiple times, incidentally, Currently on the 4th book again, and been re-watching the movies, and pretty much know a lot about Harry Potter, Like, Yes Canonically, in the 6th Book, Dumbledore does undo Enchantments protecting the school when he and Harry are flying in, because of the extra security, but we don't exactly know what spells he was taking down.
@@silentwraithuk I know there are spell around hogwarts to prevent people from coming in. But there are NO spells say that broomsticks can fly in it. That’s never been stated and the top comment is completely wrong!
The GBA game was one of my favourites growing up. It was my first non-Pokemon RPG, as well as my introduction to the concept of New Game+! I can't tell you how many times I played through that game at Lv. 100, just smoking enemies with max-level spells and chocolate frog abilities.
Nostalgia trip! Really enjoyed watching this. I loved both the PC and GBA versions as a kid. I think the GBA game was also my first RPG! I would love to see you look at the other games as well. :)
Same here! Prisoner of Azkaban for the GBA was the first RPG I ever played. From there I moved over to Pokemon and then that opened up a whole world of the genre to me.
This guy's reeeeally good. His sense of timing is bang-on perfect. He does the cutaway gags like the Metal Gear reference and the Benny Hill gag and doesn't spend too long on them so they don't outstay their welcome and make it cringy. I want more of these.
I had this on the GBA. It came packed in with the SP I got. I'm not sure why but I really enjoyed it. It was so short too that I ended up speed running it multiple times. It had a nice charm to it.
I often heard people say that the Order of Phoenix game had the best explorable Hogwarts, so I would be really curious to see a video covering that game as well!
Oh hell yeah I played the PC version of the game over and over as a kid, even tried completing it as fast as I could from time to time It's definitely the best Harry Potter game for me in terms of design and atmosphere, it's really like they took what was good about the previous games and then built upon that to make it better.
Would like to toss in my request for you to continue this series. Something very interesting about the era where big publishers made multiple versions of the game as opposed to just porting it around. Another great series of games you could do this for is The Sims. I've played most versions of The Sims 2 across platforms, and it's wild how many extremely different takes there were on that game compared to original PC one.
I'm glad to see someone so passionate about these HP games, most of these games, especially the ps1 and ps2 versions are absolutely epic, keep going with this series, hopefully you'll cover even the quidditch versions
Looking at these character models I'm pretty sure they used The Sims 2 engine for this game. Shading, textures, expressive face animations - all fits perfectly
Wouldn't have even noticed, and even if they did, they did a FANTASTIC job at starting this game from looking ANYTHING like the sims at all as they all look fantastically stylized for the dark halloween vibes of the Harry Potter universe. I didn't play the "sims 2" at all but I'm glad these Harry Potter games look really NOTHING like them for the most part as to separate from them as FAR as people possibly can.
I was fortunate enough to have all 3 versions of PoA. Personally, the PC version is my favorite as it has more nostalgia for me. The GBA is a close second. If you want to do more than the direct tie-ins, you should also check out the Lego and mobile games.
Similar preference for me! I had PC 1 & 2 and 100%'d both of them, loved those games. Got the console version of 3 & 4, and was disappointed at the changes (couldn't finish as I got bored halfway through each). I didn't realize until I watched this video that there was one more game in the PC dynasty! In fact, I immediately ordered it on Amazon and played through it ... was not disappointed! So exciting to enjoy one more game in the style I enjoyed :) (PS: To others: if you try this, the game is subtly glitched on modern hardware, causing certain areas to soft-lock. It's fine though, because, as the internet will inform you, you can use "ghost" mode to get past all the relevant soft-locks in the game. At least, all the ones I noticed ... I still haven't found all secrets...)
@@Gna-rn7zx There are also ways to get modified files that fix it. Technically illegal, but I wouldn't consider that an ethical problem if you own the game
HP1 & 2 were my childhood. Loved HP3. I was disappointed with HP4 and left the games there. So please, keep doing videos so I can see what I’ve missed. Besides, they are fantastic videos
PLEASE keep continuing the review, your narration is so amazing i actually could pay attention to what you say while multitasking instead of like listening to gibberish, and your memes timing with the related cutscenes are top-notch. I really want to see your reaction on Deathly Hallows upon seeing Seamus being a sniper wizard and neville being a tank
I subscribed yesterday after watching the video on Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets and now this. I grew up playing these 2 games ( i am now 25 ) and I still play them pretty often. I played them on PC and they hold a special place in my heart. AND THE SOUNTRACK?! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and it's probably one of the reasons I find the whole experience so relaxing and enjoyable. Great work with the videos, keep it up! You made me wanna try the Playstation versions too, so gotta go dust that off!
Funnily enough, I have never noticed that the PC version needed to be completed to 100% until recently, and that was just because I always completed the game to 100% before reaching that point.
Thank you for this video, I love this opus SO MUCH!! I started with the PS2 version but got stuck at the Hinkypunks challenge in the Muggles Study classroom, so I went to the GBA version and it was a blast! Then I pulled myself together, beat the Hinkypunks and finished the PS2 version. Overall, I love them both equally. The music, the graphics, the voice acting were all awesome and made of Jeremy Soule one of my favorite video game composers. In the end, I simply play sometimes a ROM of the GBA version on my phone because it's more accessible and the speed-up option makes it easier to grind and level up the spells and abilities.
After watching the trilogy of those vids, I'm convinced I have to play the Six Gen console versions, since I only ever played PC versions and PS1 titles, due to never owning even just a PS2. Personally, I would love to see an exploration of Order and Prince, those were really damn unique and uniquely charming due to their freeroam exploration angle.
Coming off of the ps1 games, the xbox version of this game blew my god damn mind. Flying around a big open map on Buckbeak was like nothing I'd experienced before. Then, I got Spider-man 2 which blew my mind even further. It was a good time for movie based games. I'd love to see you talk about the rest of the games in the series. Even though, from here on, they lost a bit of the magic.
I grew up with the PC version, and it was honestly my favourite out of the first 3 PC games. That being said. The console version looks great, I wish I had a chance to play it.
You still can with a console emulator. I've tested them and works brilliantly. I grew up with PC but luckily I got all the first 3 games on PS2 around 2010 and finished them all
It's not often I find a channel with videos as good as yours. Watching the first 2 parts of these videos about hp1 and 2 games I remember thinking... hes gonna have a whole series about all of them. Was kind of disappointed to only see the first 2, and then bam a few days later and were back with part 3! Love it
I never knew that there were some pretty good turn-based RPGs made for the Harry Potter series. Might want to try them out. Would love to see you cover the rest of the Harry Potter games.
I really liked the GBA version of the prisoner of Azkaban. Sadly, the turn based RPG games of Harry Potter ended in that generation. For the Globet of fire for the GBA and DS they made an ARPG, and the best version was the DS one, on the gameplay they were practically identical but the DS one looks and runs better. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the globet of fire on DS. For the next ones I lost the interest because I didn't like the fifth movie and when I saw the game for the DS and GBA, it looked pretty bad, so I didn't buy it. I'm really enjoying the series, please continue with the next ones!
The PS2 of Azkaban was my favorite growing up because it took aspects from Chamber of Secrets but with the unique abilities of Ron and Hermione required to complete. It is frustrating to some but I think it was excellent gameplay and I wish they continued this in future games. The competition between developers is why these games were the pinnacle of the HP franchise. Can't wait for Hogwarts Legacy.
Ron's "woooOOOAH!" when Sirius grabs him in the GBA version is pure gold. I think somewhere I still have my GBA copy with everything maxed out due to the number of times I did NG+ on it.
well made video, really liked some of the jokes in this, that metal gear joke with Ron was pretty funny, i grew up playing the ps2 version and the pc version, i think i recall liking the ps2 version better for changing through characters whenever, but the pc version was good too
honestly, how this channel dont have more subs? he has a nice voice, his mic is good, he speaks fast, the editing dont have any ear rape, he got some jokes, he could easily be a channel of 500k at least, i hope he really makes one of these hp videos viral, then ppl will come in, i just sub so i dont miss this channel, im gonna watch all videos, GOOD LUCK flandrew
I really like these comparison videos. I've never played any of these games but I think it's so cool how different the games were on different platforms.
I was waiting for this! As I said in the previous video, I’m Very fond of the PS2 version of prisoner of Azkaban. It was my first Harry Potter game and the thrill of riding buckbeak was amazing, especially that music. Man so nostalgic.
Yes, please continue doing this series! I grew up on the first few games in this series and I think they were among my first games (on the PC at least). I'm not sure of the later games that I didn't play but am curious to see what changed for them. It's funny, I distinctly remember the HP games being in the Education section of my local Best Buy and at the time my parents would never get me games unless they were educational in some way. Luckily they weren't too bright either so I was able to get away with them buying me these games just for being in that section.
The gamecube game was one of the very few games I owned as a kid. I would take the game manual to school with me because it had the spells in it and I showed it off to my friend that also loved Harry Potter. I didn't really have access to the internet yet so I didn't know how to get all the collectible cards and was always sad every time I beat the campaign, knowing I hadn't completed 100% of it. But when you go to the great hall at the end, thats it. No free roam afterwards. Credits. Done. Thank you for making these videos, they bring me joy.
Glad to see lord of the rings is mentioned here. Will you do a comparison of the pc/xbox and ps2 versions of the two towers and the return of the king? Because those games are amazing and their GBA counterparts are criminally underrated masterpieces which were also developed by Gryptonite games
Thank you for the time to play these different versions of one game! Please make more of these comparisons! This one probably took less time to make compared to the first two games. The next one is interesting because there 3 portable console versions compared to only GBA in this one.
Just found your videos looking to find the best version of Chamber of Secrets and well, the rest of the games and I'm loving this series. Very well done and definitely a big help. I'll be checking out some of your other non HP comparison videos as well. Keep up the great work!
I love this series so far. I played PoA on the PS2 and this video was a trip memory and nostalgia lane. As a kid I always enjoyed freeroaming and I loved this game so much. So much things to explore. My most fun memory however is the dueling club. I loved playing that minigame. There was this one mission however you could have mentioned for the funny. It was the mission where Harry gets out of the hospital wing to follow a disguised Malfoy to the dungeons. You can in fact in that mission go to the Great Hall and randomly start a dueling match. I found it amazing and funny to see Harry duel in the middle of the night in his pyjamas with a group of other kids we don't know lol.
GBA version was one of my first ever console games, RPG games, and Harry Potter games overall. The music in it is very nostalgic for me. Keep up the great vids!
I just discovered your channel and have been binging your hp series ever since. Your videos are really well made and it is a joy to watching them. Keep up the good work! Can't wait to also check your other videos besides the hp stuff :)
Great job with the video! I would love to see you cover the Lord of the Rings games! Those are so nostalgic and I remember having a great time with them.
My little sister had the game for Xbox and I remember her reaching the Hinkypunks, only that she was terrified of them and could'nt get past. The game remains unplayed beyound that point to this day. Great video, Flandrew! Keep it up!
The over the shoulder view was ripped right out of Golden Sun. I'm so glad that dev was given the green light to take over the gba version too, it makes a nice little trilogy.
I am glad I am not the only one who immediately thought "This looks like golden sun". Even the moving of objects in the overworld was similar. What really sold it was at 16:10
I really like that they use Hermione for squeezing into small spaces. I think it's because it's the kind of thing you wouldn't usually think about, it's kinda cute, and it humanizes her, unlike the movies which turn her more than often into just a strict smart person. It's like yeah, she's "the smart one," but she can help in other ways, too.
lol just not with your nonsense saying that movies haven’t humanized Hermione at all, because they HAVE as she’s WAY more than just a “strict smart person” in the films as she’s a well rounded character and person in the film adaptations. Your completely wrong saying this nonsense about “unlike the movies” which is completely not true as she’s WAY more than “the smart one” in the films. You’re not at all proving that you paid attention to the films if you really that’s just smart because ALL the characters in the movies are humanized in their own way as they showcase their strengths and weaknesses! That’s what makes the Harry Potter films fantastic and a phenomenal film series!
@@Gadget-Walkmen Oh, I get it. You're a troll. Not a very good one though, since I got three notifications in rapid succession of you writing theses on how utterly wrong I am about movies. Try harder. 😘🤝
I honestly feel like the Turn-Based RPG format was phenomenal for this series. Never knew the handhelds were like this and feel like I was missing out as a kid lol
I remember that a local furniture store hat PlayStations set up with with HP3 running and it was the most amazing day trip my parents could possibly take me on - when I got the game for PC though, I was more than puzzled about how different the game was, I expected it to be the exact same with different controls, which was a little sad at first, but over the time HP3 became THE perfect childhood game for me. It was modern enough to have a reasonable player convenience (e.g. returning everywhere, unlike HP1 PC where you missed a card and you're fucked) and run stable, yet had contained so much charm of early 2000's games. I still play through it nowadays on a boring afternoon and I think children today would still have an amazing time with the game when they just read the books.
As expected my guy has done a great Job explaining the differences between each version. Now im Playing each potter game on pc and ps2 after watching your videos! I guess we wont skip the 4rd game as they are all the same on pc and console. I think even the psp version is the same like pc. But keep it up! Enjoying these comparisons 🤙🏻
15:43 i mean, Golden Sun was doing that 3 years prior, though i don't actually know if that game was big enough to have been noticed by these creators, not to mention that the camera angle was used in other RPG games before that, just was in Golden Sun that i saw it for the first time in a handheld game. Great vid btw, been binging all 3 vids and these unlock so many childhood memories, Never was the biggest HP fan but i really liked these games when i was a kid
We had all played Golden Sun of course, but it wasn't a direct reference for the team. A lot of the team were SNES vets, so those old Mode7 tricks were in our tool kit. :)
@@yarnvials5874 Oh, its always cool to hear from a dev, I never played that game in particular but I want to thank you n your generation of game devs for inspiring us that grew up with games from this era and are now working on game related things of our own, be that professionally or as a hobby, wich includes me I dont know if you were on the team for these but I choosing to belive you cus that is cooler and more fun
I love these comparison videos. Please keep digging for them wherever they exist. I really enjoy how you're looking at "How many games for X movie" like Attack of the Clones and your Harry Potter series I guess we can say.
Something I LOVED doing was riding the Hippogriff to the very edge of the map, where theres a very small wooden pier and waiting there for my two AI partners to race across the entire castle to come to my side and guess who would come doen the stairs first. Poor Ron and Hermione had the legs of track athletes by the time I finisged the game.
GameCube one was chefs kiss for me 👌 I used to ride buckbeak for literal hours, moving the camera around to get every angle, land and dismount and get back on. over and over. Hello hyperfixation. Your commentary on these videos is so funny 🤭 I lost it at Ron’s screams 😂
Thanks for reviewing these! I played this PC version to death as a kid. In hindsight it seems like it was better than it had any right being, but strangely I've never met anyone who also played these HP games. I like this independent developer style. It seems like you can see the soul of the developers in the games, whereas the later ones feel standardized. I also played the next one a lot, and it was weird but not nearly as good.
I was so happy to see a new video of this series! I am kinda intrigued about the game boy HP games now, and am surprised a dang HP game has better animations than Pokemon, which is the highest crossing franchise on the market. Anyway, theae videos are fun and interesting and me and my friends enjoy these a lot. Please keep making these!
Just to make everyone aware, the GBA version wasn't inspired by Pokemon. It was actually inspired by Golden Sun (and to say inspired would be an understatement).
You should definitely do more of these. They're quite entertaining, plus after your last video on The Chamber Of Secrets games, I went to dig out my old GBC version of the it and found out that I have Goblet of Fire on DS? I booted it up and despite having a save file at the very end of the game, I have absolutely zero recollection of the game or ever playing it. Guess now is as good of time as any, to give it a go while waiting for the next video.
Akin to the Pokemon games?! Sir, that is Golden Sun combat right there. I had no idea POA on GBA continued the RPG legacy. I loved the first two way back in the day and always wished they went on - wonder how I missed that. Excited to check it out, especially for the Lost Vikings character swapping bits
First off, let me say that I think these three videos are amazing, as a proper retrospective of the HP games. And this video tops them all, with a clear focus and funny editing, which honestly made me cackle at times. So props to you, Flandrew, and thanks to the YT algorithm! I owned the PS2 version of this, but I am honestly bummed that I never bothered to play the GBA version as that looks stellar, from both gameplay and graphics perspective. I might pick it up in the future, maybe to stream with my HP loving fiancee. So, thanks to introducing me to this version!
Man, I remember loving the PC game, especially the levels involving Hermione's spells. I got the GameCube version and was a bit disappointed to see that it's not the same game, but I honestly enjoyed it a lot, nevertheless. I particularly loved the sections where you have to go around the castle grounds looking for ingredients. I got the fourth game and I never finished it. I remember the level design was pretty fun, especially the level in the greenhouse, but the gameplay wasn't.
I've only just started watching your channel the other day due to a random recc by youtube, but I ADORE this type of series retrospective for multiple reasons! For one, I was the kid who grew up wanting to play the weird kinda different games that everyone dismissed, so I was constantly in rummage bins at the local game shop trying to grab me a copy of something people played 2-5 hours and put away forever. I love looking at something like DKC on the game boy color and recognizing how visually awful it is, but also how impressive it is as a port in some ways. In addition, I worked in game testing for a time. So while I can't openly discuss many projects I may/may not of worked on, I thought the idea of a game hitting multiple skus and being different in ways (either to make up for hardware differences or being a later version) was always exciting in that "I found the television that breaks the game if you go in a particular line from first boot to it that doesn't exist in other versions" way. The eras these HP games existed on are a great testing ground for new ideas and innovations. They also at times feel like the last era in which major and midlevel developers took risks with projects objectively, even if that's not inherently true. To see those points potentially coalesce on licensed games, often the weakest and safest projects nowadays, is utterly fascinating. Can't imagine what this looks like to a newer younger gamer just getting to understand the industry.
Thanks for the video 🙌🏼🙌🏼 I play the pc & gba version So much memories🤩 Love your videos If you do the other books I will watch I didn't play it But with you i can know if i miss something 😅
I played the GBA version countless times and sometimes would replay the file more than once a day until I was proto speedrunning it by knowing what to do quickly. One of the first non Pokemon RPGs I understood enough to finish way back. Probably helped me understand Final Fantasy 1 on Dawn of Souls better, but 2 I could never get far in. That was also the only Harry Potter game I actually owned. It's interesting to see it was a sort of grand finale to a trilogy in its own way.
The GBA version is so warm and cozy for me. It gives me warm and fuzzy feelings of playing it leading up to Christmas when I was 11 or so. The soundtrack is amazing
I still remember being little and seeing the PS2 game for sale on shelves, this game had an awesome soundtrack! My favorite track is the one that plays during the main menu after the opening intro.

* Batman Begins
* The Thing
The list goes on and on. Wasn’t really anything like it before or even after
Preach!
King Kong and Godfather were also absolut Good Movie - Videogames ❤
Well then you have never heard about ljn 💀
Please, keep doing these. This series is going to be a great warmup before Hogwarts Legacy's launch. I'll definitely rewatch and look for things to compare and see how the games evolved over the years.
I second that. :)
I third that!
I fourth that!
If you think that these videos are a great warmup, imagine how good just playing them would be!
This series made me sub.
Holy shit, I absolutely lost it at 4:05 when Ron ‘called’ MGS style to ask for the photo haha
The battle perspective in the GBA looks almost exactly like Golden Sun, also on GBA
Bro Golden Sun is my fav gba game... I love Golden Sun 1 and 2...
Golden Sun seems cool but I can never get past the fact that it looks like a deep fried meme
@@xTheLemon if you talk about the horrible ds game, that was the wrap up, a turd in the face and thats it.
it looks more like they just changed assets etc. and called it a day, it even has these awful movable pillars, that were in every dungeon in golden sun 1&2
I played the PS2 version. Here are some of my memories of it:
- Standing around casting the ice spell as Hermione all over the place, just because it looked cool. (no pun intended)
- A fun duelling minigame against two teams, though it would sometime softlock and the next duel would never start.
Also add in finding exact spots where you won't pass out, but straight up die from fall damage in the outdoor area.
Also freezing students and fireplaces
To this day my sister and I use Hermione's catchphrase (when you're legit doing extra objectives and finding secrets at the end of the day) "I can't think of anything else to do!"
Ocean?
Freezing Ron and Harry to hear them complain about Hermione was pretty fun
Watching the beginning, I convinced myself I didn't play this game as a kid. Then you showed the PC gameplay and the memories immediately came flooding back. Thanks for reminding me of the childhood memories I'd completely forgotten about!
One fun and weird future Harry Potter game: Order of the Phoenix on DS. You actually battle by turning the DS. I don’t want to say much more to avoid spoilers, but it’s super unique. Only seen a couple games on the DS that have done that.
Absolutely adored the GBA game as a kid. One of my favorites. I definitely suggest it to anyone that might be interested in playing it.
i mean its not common but its not rare either, hotel dusk and the brain age games play w the ds sideways too
@@pedrogabriel3158 Oh, I didn’t know that. The only other one I knew of was the one with the white, paper-esque style with the detective.
@@pattongilbert That’s Hotel Dusk, great game! It had a sequel too, but it doesn’t get brought up as often, possibly due to never getting a North American release. It came out here in the UK though and the DS has no region locking.
@@weedmilk Oh good to know. Always been interested in the series. Seems pretty good.
also I think you turn the DS sideways for a bit in Mario&Luigi
The DS versions are never discussed, I’d love to see more on those.
@@Gadget-Walkmen PoA should also been on PS1
@@MsSirAndy lol probably not no. That would have been way to late as they would have had to updated the models and everything for a ps1 game.
The Ps2 version was my favourite growing up. This video brought back loads of nostalgia for me
Me too!
* sound of spell zooming off into the distance *
I played the gamecube version which was fantastic!
I played the gamecube version which was fantastic!
Same with me.
Same, I remember just getting to certain parts of the game, like the final boss, and just leaving it be so I could listen to the music
I often heard people say that the Order of Phoenix game had the best explorable Hogwarts, so I would be really curious to see a video covering that game as well!
*I used to play all these games until Ps3 gen. Now I'm over 25 and find everything boring but your videos, priceless reviews. Keep it up*
Oh hell yeah
I played the PC version of the game over and over as a kid, even tried completing it as fast as I could from time to time
It's definitely the best Harry Potter game for me in terms of design and atmosphere, it's really like they took what was good about the previous games and then built upon that to make it better.
The gamecube versions of the game are absolutely fantastic as well, which are the ps2 versions mainly!
All games back than looked like the Sims 2 game back than.
So exciting to enjoy one more game in the style I enjoyed :)
(PS: To others: if you try this, the game is subtly glitched on modern hardware, causing certain areas to soft-lock.
5 and 6 we're good to but man they butchered 7 hard.
Been waiting for this one. I grew up on the pc version. Thank you for making this
Absolutely continue this series, even if the games end up less diverse in the future, I know I'd still watch.
Yes! Please finish the series!!! I stumbled upon your channel about a month ago and love it. I was so excited when I saw you'd uploaded this today!
Spider Man 2: Electric Boogaloo
I love the clear but funny style of the video, keep it up mate!
I'm really enjoying this series. I'm sad Griponite weren't allowed to keep doing the portable versions.
The facial expressions and emotions of the characters on PS2 are just really really good!
I grew up with the PC version, and it was honestly my favourite out of the first 3 PC games. That being said. The console version looks great, I wish I had a chance to play it.
I played the gamecube version which was fantastic from it's action/adventure exploration spell-casting freedom!
You still can with a console emulator. I've tested them and works brilliantly. I grew up with PC but luckily I got all the first 3 games on PS2 around 2010 and finished them all
Which one of the versions are better?
Little mistake, "all three playable characters can ride Buckbeak". Last time I checked, Ron can't.
It's not often I find a channel with videos as good as yours. Watching the first 2 parts of these videos about hp1 and 2 games I remember thinking... hes gonna have a whole series about all of them.
Was kind of disappointed to only see the first 2, and then bam a few days later and were back with part 3! Love it
Also would love to see videos on the next games... what an odd and interesting story all this is.
Ah yes, there's my favourite generation of Harry potter games. Didn't expect you to follow up so soon! Well done!
ayyy more harry potter content i love these games
Great video. It was always so weird back then how there were always so many ports and how they were all so different from each other.
I really like these comparison videos. I've never played any of these games but I think it's so cool how different the games were on different platforms.
Dude I love your channel. The humor you sprinkle in is so good and not overdone
I was waiting for this! As I said in the previous video, I’m
Very fond of the PS2 version of prisoner of Azkaban. It was my
first Harry Potter game and the thrill of riding buckbeak was amazing, especially that music. Man so nostalgic.
Interesting how I played all 3 versions! Mostly the GameCube and Gameboy Advance versions.
Yes, planing on doing LoTR before the end of the year, loved those games
@@Flandrew Amazing!
Thank you for the time to play these different versions of one game! Please make more of these comparisons! This one probably took less time to make compared to the first two games. The next one is interesting because there 3 portable console versions compared to only GBA in this one.
I still have my GBA copy from back in the day completed and all. Good memories
Yes. I loved this game as a kid. I had the PS2 version and it was so much fun to play.

WHOO! YES! I was hoping you would do this video! Thanks, Flandrew, awesome as always!
Great job with the video! I would love to see you cover the Lord of the Rings games! Those are so nostalgic and I remember having a great time with them.
I cant wait for the globet of fire video, I used to play the heck out of the ps2 version, it's a big part of my childhood, excellent video as always!
Oh, and I'm more certain there's less versions this time around because it would have been waaaay too late to make GBC and PS1 games at that point xD
Try harder. 😘🤝

Prisoner of Azkaban was probably my _most played_ XBOX game lol, I loved it. I’d love to find a way to play it again! Another fantastic video 👏
I love watching these, please finish the entire series of games!

Been looking forward to this. It's interesting to see all the different versions compared.
Can't wait to see you become a huge hit. Glad I found you this early in your career.
Been waiting for this! Your Philosopher's Stone video got me into your channel, no video has disappointed!
Love these videos bro! Played all these games growing up and laugh looking back at them!
When it came to the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban games, the only version I played was the GBA version.
Thanks for the video
🙌🏼🙌🏼
I play the pc & gba version
So much memories🤩
Love your videos
If you do the other books
I will watch
I didn't play it
But with you i can know if i miss something 😅
I'm pretty sure only Harry and Hermione can ride Buckbeak on the console versions. Ron gets attacked if he tries if I recall
I only played the PC version and feel kinda robt ^^
(Even tho I liked it alot)
Great video I hope you continue this awsoem format
I played the GBA version countless times and sometimes would replay the file more than once a day until I was proto speedrunning it by knowing what to do quickly. One of the first non Pokemon RPGs I understood enough to finish way back. Probably helped me understand Final Fantasy 1 on Dawn of Souls better, but 2 I could never get far in. That was also the only Harry Potter game I actually owned. It's interesting to see it was a sort of grand finale to a trilogy in its own way.
The console version of 3 is easily one of my favorite games of the series if not the best one
So entertaining, well-written and nostalgic as always! Thank you so much mate! And please don‘t stop🙌🙌
