6:29 I had the massive good fortune to be able to surprise my parents with business class flights from Brussels to Jakarta, via Heathrow and Singapore on Christmas 2019, just before the pandemic hit.
My parents worked very hard their whole lives to provide for us, we skipped flying for 10 years between the nineties and early 2000s. I saved/used miles to give them an experience of a lifetime. Your mom’s face is exactly the expression my parents had when I steered them to the business class check in desk. It was disbelief and sheer joy.
The Singapore Airlines crew were supremely lovely - professional, attentive and warm. They knew exactly how to make my parents feel welcomed. The food was amazing, it tasted like home. My mom could finally sleep in comfort, and didn’t have to recover with a sore back and neck when she arrived. And the cherry on the cake was the fact we flew with the A380..our first and likely only time to fly this majestic plane.
Thank you for sharing your trip with your mom! Bless her heart. And thank you for spurring SQ to improve their service..we were certainly extremely happy with how the staff treated us!

I cherish the travels with my mum, especially as she passed away last summer.
We never flew together, but did trips together to London, Scotland, Rome and our last one to Istanbul.

How nice that you can travel with your mother! I did something like this to my wife one time. We were going on a short vacation. It was a domestic US trip. I didn't tell her where we were going. We had a double layover (3 flights). I was able to keep the destination a secret until we were at our 2nd connecting airport, and ready to catch the last flight. It was fun!

I surprised my Mum with a trip to Santorini for her 60th birthday. I will forever treasure the look on her face as she stepped out of the doors of our hotel and we just stood in awe of the view of the caldera. We had the trip of a lifetime and it's truly the best thing I ever did. She's given me everything over the years and to be able to give her this experience was such a privilege.

Exactly. Singaporeans will have no qualms to criticise our national airlines. Common complains are too expensive, service is so-so. BUT, when foreigners criticises SIA, we will verbally whack you left-right-centre, although deep down we might agree with you. 😆

From a foreigner perspective that reaction was scary. Kinda nationalistic and not in a good way. It’s too bad, Singaporeans are very nice otherwise

kudos to you Josh Cahill, for taking care of your mother. I was fortunate to take my mother to China, Spain and Portugal despite she has dementia at that time. It's was worth it and I cherish it forever. She now happy in heaven no more pain of Alzheimer.
She has such positive energy!

Nice surprise for your mum. I've done a similar thing for my own mother a couple of times, taking her on surprise daytrips to celebrate her birthday. The first was to Paris, when she had no idea where we were going until we were about to take off from Heathrow. The second was Venice, where again she had no idea where we were going until I handed her her boarding pass in the departure lounge at Gatwick!
I can't help feeling a bit sorry for your mum though. She spent two hours in the air thinking she was going to Singapore, only to have her dreams shattered when you got off the plane in Rome. My mum would have been devastated (although she wouldn't have shown it)!
Flew the A350 in business from Istanbul to Singapore in Feb 2020 (my wife's first experience of business class). Utterly outstanding in every way, crew were fantastic, food & drink amazing. We had the bulkhead seats right at the front so double width legroom when it's a bed, extremely comfortable. Maybe one day we'll do it again if we're lucky.

On our trip to England in the 60's, Mom's first trip home since the war, the stewardess asked if Mom was ok, after just one glass of champagne. He chuckled and said, "she always gets drunk when we fly" - but we
had never flown before, except for a little tour flight over the Grand Canyon in a tiny plane!

Josh I was lucky to fly economy with SIA via Changi to Narita a few years ago on a B744 the service was fantastic . I really enjoyed this video even without a loo review ! Looks like your mum had a great trip too 😀

...lol bring back a memory from past for me. many years ago I picked my daughter up from daycare on a friday night. our bags were pack and hid in the car. we went to airport parking she had no idea we were going on a plane to see her aunt and uncle. she was so excited. on the way to Milwaukee, we figured out she had a ear infection that we didnt know about. luckily her uncle is a dr.
we still talk about that trip some 25 yrs later. I love watching your mother's reaction. its priceless. enjoy your time with her.
