If I heard this today, I'd be 78% convinced the world was ending.
SAME.
I would be 82% sure the world was ending in the worst way possible
+Noelle Z Donald Trump winning the election.
+Humberto Palacios o.o
noelle zar Boo hoo he won the election we're fucked
Ah, the days when you couldn't use the phone and the Internet at the same time.
Now the Internet is ON our phones.
+HeartbrokenOtaku The circle is complete!
+HeartbrokenOtaku This makes me sssssoooooo sad. God how I loved AOL! You couldn't get me off of it as a teenager.
I feel so old and I'm only 22, I grew up on aol and chat rooms haha
You know what this means, don't you? THE INTERNET IS GETTING CLOSER TO BEING IN OUR BODIES. Wake up, sheeple! The Internet's coming for you!
Are you talking to me with that rhetoric; or somebody else? I just know I got tagged.
This is strangely comforting...
Indeed, and I have no nostalgia to back it up.
+Luke Molwitz same
Franco Fernando yes
Franco Fernando I feel like it’s screaming at me ;-;
I lived it. That effin noise triggers my AOL PTSD every time lol. More likely than not you were hearing this after being kicked off and trying to log back in. Again and again and again. Yeah. Good times. Adios dial up.
I still have dialup like that. It took almost an hour to load this video.
This is extremely fast in this case
DUDE ? where are you ? in Poland ?
@@MrSkyw4lker africa more like
"It took 15 years but the video finally loaded"
The 144p video is 193KB, which isn't too bad on 56k.🙃
Who remember logging on at night to get in those chatrooms and trying be quiet with that loud dial up to AOL and then forgetting to mute speakers so you got a loud ass "WELCOME, YOU GOT MAIL" and scare the shit out of you and waking up everybody in the house. 😂😂😂
Haha! Yes! And waiting til 10 pm or you'd get in trouble for tying up the phone line.
hahahhaha
Commenting to a 4 year comment. Yes, either 2am or 3am while playing a CD ROM game mailed from AOL. I still had it until I made something out of it since I couldn't use it anymore. Only worked for Windows 98 and XP.
Just put pillows around the computer and the noise will be blocked
Nowadays it's easy especially when I have nord VPN go to my link nordvpn/rafal.com to get 50 percent off your next offer
Me: Mom, wait I'm on the internet!
>Mom doesn't hear in time, picks up phone, and starts dialing
Me: NOOOOOOOOOO
gold lightning The fucking frustration of this is 1000x times the fact that this is frustrating enough to me to the point i want to kill whoever picked up the phone.
gold lightning I know the feeling >:(
+gold lightning Eventually we got a second phone line installed
+gold lightning -- haha! Yep!
+gold lightning Along with lost connection, redialing, sometimes it doesn't go through, and you have to repeat the process over again, with slow page loads....Connecting to the internet then was a stressful ordeal.
I Fucking Hated The Dial up Sound Effect Back When I Was a Kid,But Now I’m Just Downright Nostalgic For it
Could never sneak online at night. The struggles as a kid back then
@@TheApana you didn't just have volume off?
i hated it SO MUCH!!!! as a young kid it scared the hell out of me and seemed so unnecessary
@@sleepful1917 Yeah,I Know What You Mean,But Now Being The Nostalgia Dork That I am I Totally Miss it

introducing rock and roll
Yep back when entering the internet was a whole production instead of just a click.
Brian Leon the internet is still like aol today every time you do something it rings to the towers then sends a signal to give you the okay to press like, post a comment rather then speeds at 13kbps it now maxed up to 100mbps or more depending on service provider. So it's still same process just no dial up sound and 30 seconds more faster than aol to receive that okay signal
Unless your not on an unlimited plan then you'll expirence those aol days of buffering and loading!!! Sometimes like on my phone get 2g and trust me it brings me back to aol days! I'm an early 90s kid so I still remember aol before Comcast came along
I even remember UA-cam being just a baby back then! It's just as old as I am now! Funny how time changes in short 20 years
OH WOW O.O
Anything wrong with that?
Brings back such glorious AOL memories. The 5 minute dial-ups,Loved AOL chat-rooms they was apart of my life in my youth. miss the people who were my chat friends and sometimes wonder whatever became of them.
My dialup was faster than that but I yelled at my sister get of the damn phone and unplugged it we were 19
RAQUAAHWA TheCodedtestament The wonderful AOL chat rooms. I remember my friends and I would lie about being a girl and EVERY SINGLE DUDE would start IM'ing looking for cyber sex. Damn dudes were thirsty as hell about someone they couldn't even see a picture of.
Those were the days.
Man me too! My list of friends was stacked!
Sonicontra88- They ended up on Chris Hansen's To Catch A Predator.
Ah yes only 90’s kids would understand how nostalgic this sound is. ❤
I'm an 80s kid and I completely understand it.
Mom: GET OFF THE INTERNET!!!!!
Me: NOOO!!!! I WANNA PLAY THIS GAME!!
Mom: GET OFF THE DAMN COMPUTER!!!!!!!
Oh the memories!
Mom: You're grounded for a month!!!!
GET OFF THE INTERNET I NEED TO MAKE A PHONE CALL!! (alternatively: WHO THE FUCK PICKED UP THE PHONE AND KICKED ME OFF THE INTERNET MY PICTURE ONLY HAD 2 MORE MINUTES LEFT TO LOAD!!!)
Mom: *makes a phone call*
Mom: ill use the phone
Me: jesus mom dont get agresive
That feeling when you got mail and saw the mailbox pop open was amazing.
Oh my God, yes!
It just gave, and still gives, me anxiety.
Seriously my first internet-induced dopamine burst circa '97
"Dude! This thing claims I have mail!"
"It's amazing what we can do with technology these days..."
"Dude, now I'm reading it!"
"So happy for you."
Marigio300X YESSSSSSSS I LOVE HER YT

what's the address for Amazon.ca?
Still makes me feel nostalgic. Makes me ready to play some Starcraft, Diablo, Starsiege Tribes or some Half-Life mods.
Starcraft sounds so soothing
Born in 95 and you kids will never understand how chilling this is to the bone. Life was rough 🤦🏽♀️ y’all grew up with free wifi and we had to share a phone line and internet service bruh!
So weird that this all makes me so happy. I couldn't wait to race home and jump online and check my email when I was a kid.
i remember i use to love when it connected cause sometimes it didnt man the good ole days
+jurrell hudson lol exactly!
Then someone would pick up the phone

yooooooooooo id hate that!
I remember my mom waking me up during the night just because she needed to use the AOL speed dial. That sound has etched its way into my soul.
What did she needed to do late at night?
@@andrews.4270 eh, late night emails since she’s a teacher and teachers always have some sort of crap to put up with like their students or students parents, that kind of thing.
Ah yes, AOL, those were the days. Will never forget wreaking havoc with punterz and progz. The early days of "hacking".
Yeah
Hacking came way before aol
brah... them trojans were the best and most fun... ahhh yessss

I got an e-mail right after the "You've got mail!" played! XD
You've got spam!
Fun fact: AOL still lets you play the "You've got mail" intro when you open your inbox, you just have to toggle it on in your settings. Not that anyone still uses AOL, but it's a nice touch
I used to work at an ISP. I can tell this is a 56k connection :)

AOL, those were the days :-)
Remember when call waiting woud interrupt your internet sessions?
My grandma used AO around the early to late 2000’s while I was growing up. She used it to the very end of its service.
Dispite not being much of a 90’s kid, this is still nostalgic for me.
My family kept using dial-up until 2009/2010.
Brings back a lot of good memories. This sound reminds me of the time I wanted to go online for some entertainment or because I had to write a midterm or final paper for school when I was in the 8th grade and when I first entered the ninth grade.
The worst part of not getting online is when your parents had to use the phone or your siblings were talking to their friends or their boyfriends/girlfriends.
That sigh of relief when you finally got on the world wide web, and was able to log into your AOL account and check your emails
The last time I heard this was back in the early 2000s
This is unbelievable. Brings back a ton of memories lol
I remember the struggle of my dad coming home and making a phone call - cutting the internet off in the process. My god

I used to play the pool game and another one.. i think it was called Slinko?

Yep in the kitchen
Love it! Got my subscription in 1998.
Best instrumental of all time.
I get goosebumps every single time. It was a lifestyle, a bygone culture 😫😀
I grew up with this, but I have to admit, it's pretty creepy now!! How far humans have evolved with the internet and connecting. It's like connecting to another alien world and you're speaking to other aliens you didnt know existed (a foreshadowing of Facebook) and when it finally connected, sometimes you'd lose the connection or you couldnt use your phones. Im sorry, but that just blows my mind man!!! If I heard those now as a kid it would probably creep me out!! lol
‘ You’ve Got Mail” , probably more gratification then the hundreds of meaningless notifications you get on your phone all day…
Very well stated and correct
Ugh, hate to say it but you're right
The build-up with all the connecting sounds....and the climactic success hearing "YOU'VE GOT MAIL!"
Now, we have instant gratification, with no build-up, no anticipation. No having to tell someone they can't use the phone because you're "Surfing the 'Net"...
Not that I miss dial-up, but things move so fast now. We don't take time to breathe, think, or appreciate what we have. Instead, we want everything YESTERDAY!
At least given technology, and the advancements, we can look back to see all the work it took us to get here.
Thank you for posting this great piece of nostalgia!
Man I miss seeing comments like this where people are being genuine and not acting like a crackhead. Don’t get me wrong I like seeing a funny comment every once in a while, but it gets to a point where it’s repetitive and annoying.

Elwood Edwards is the voice behind AOL's You've Got Mail!
I remember in Elementary school when my teacher was checking her email and she didn’t know the sound on her computer was on and her computer said “You’ve got mail!” and everyone in the classroom bursted out laughing! 😂😂😂
Memories of the world we left behind.

Technically our phones are like that depending on phone brand and carrier. We can't be online while on phone call. Most carriers don't have two way radio signals..hopefully when and if 5G speeds is here that problem is obsolete

Wow instant flash back!!
Ahhh the sounds of my childhood.
Elon Musk really went “yes, this will be the name of my child.”
Play this for a modern teenager and they'll ask you why it sounds like the computer is about to catch fire and die. Then watch their face as you tell them that this is what it was *supposed* to sound like.
I must be one of the rare people of that age group to understand that the early internet was accessed through phone lines

I remember my grandmother always coming home from work and turning on her computer and I would always here this
I re-search this clip to listen to at least a few times a year, and the weird thing is the way the sound makes me feel just about every time I hear it. 😅
Clearly you never actually used this, as the "You've Got Mail" sound *never* would've played that quickly after the dial up sound.
I always wanted to mute those loud, teeth-grinding noises cause they woke up everybody in the house! I hated AOL so much! So why am I still feeling nostalgia for those days when I looked up porno for the first time?
Mine was a porno mag my step father had hidden >.< the internet didn't exist then (just barely anyway).
I had a subscription to high society magazine. Until my stupid stepmother mailed the company and told them i was underage. They stopped coming, i wrote the company and they sent a reply, 'yeah your mom told us you're underage, sorry'. Fuck you Donna!!!
*Priceless!*
I definitely remember this back in 1997
