I just love how this song incorporates the different stages of a break up. At first his a little upset, towards the middle he's just angry and putting some of the blame on the significant other then at the end you can feel that he's regretted some things, and realizes that things could have been handled differently. That part where he says "Why didn't you stop me from turning out this way" I love it
"I tried to move you but you just wouldn't budge. I tried to hold your hand but you'd rather hold your grudge. I think you know what I'm getting at, you said goodbye and I just don't want you regretting that." This.
My "sister niece" dedicated this song to her father several years ago, her father who is my brother is still gone living HIGH in his party life, so many years have passed, he's been gone so very long, through those years my niece and I have become extremely close, she has become my little sister. My brother walked away from a winning lotto ticket = his daughter, she is a blessing HEY TODD!! she's so damn amazing and she still wants to know you, call her, call me, call the family, please call us, man up and just fuckin call. We miss you. We ALL miss you!! You are my brother I will never stop loving you and now I too dedicate this song to you.
I’ve listened to this song since high school. I have a father with narcissism (actual narcissistic personality disorder) and this song just so perfectly describes our relationship and how I had felt about him. At 27 years old I have finally come to the point that I forgive him. I’m not angry. In fact I just feel sorry for him, that he will never know the warmth of real love and friendship. That he will live his life only for himself and will die a narcissists death. All alone.
@@chandlerrose4545 Thank you for your kind words. Sorry that you too have struggled with your father. Its painfully un fair and your completely right that forgiveness is not for them its for who they are hurting. Forgiving them allows you to move forward, gives you a chance to find the happiness you so deserve. My niece has found some peace. She amazing in everyway. My brother has not returned to our family, it's been 13 years since our last contact, we have no idea where he is, how he is, and I have to believe one day I will hug his neck again as I kick him in the ass. As the song goes we may not like him but we certainty do love and miss him. Take care Chandler, wishing you the best.
A girl I used to date in high school dedicated this song to me. I didn't know, nor care, as to why. I miss her often now. I wasn't the best person then, but damn what I would give for a second chance.
Syd, Ave, Mai, ... Cala ... Ruth... I don't hate you for what you did to me. I still love you. Always. But right now I just want to move on. Maybe I can see you all again when I'm in a better place. (I used their nicknames... just so you know)

I truly hope your niece is able to come to the same place. The forgiveness isn’t for their sake, it’s for ours.

When you came here to dedicate it not to a ex but to an ex-bestfriend who stabbed out your heart. Oop awkward.
