    You’re a madman!! It was super interesting hearing your thought process of how it would probably take several days to get here…and then powering through. I didn’t realize that you were originally fully prepared to stretch it out as far as possible! Absolute insanity. Thanks again for making the trip, let alone doing it in such a crazy way! 🙌🏻🍻

      Thanks for the feedback! I had a great trip, even with the adversity and butt-numbing miles! It was great to see everyone again and to meet some new faces.
      I'm looking forward to the next meet-up... as long as it doesn't overlap with the 2025 Scooter Cannonball schedule (roughly June 15 - July 4, 2025). Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    Epic ride! I have traveled cruise country, camping along the way, but on a Goldwing, so hats of to you. My first long distance ride was on a CB 350 Honda. I had to stop for gas every hundred miles. That was in the early 70's. Once i camped in the median strip.

      @quasimotard Not related to this video, I purchased a Super Cub in Feb and notice the gear change is reversed when compared to those in the US. On mine it's down on the front to change up and the heels down to change down. Would you know why there is a difference? All the best.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  6 місяців тому +1

      @@edwardsp1916 That's a good point! I'm not sure why the EU/UK Cubs have a reversed shift drum (GP-style). Another interesting feature is the wrap-around shift drum that allows return to neutral while stopped (4-N-1). The US-spec models don't have that feature, so we have to shift down through the stack (4-3-2-1-N). Several EU/UK Cub owners have admonished me for "riding and shifting the Cub improperly" because I ride CORRECTLY... downshifting as I slow to a stop! 🤣👍 --QM

    Great video and ride! That's one way to truly get back in the saddle! I've been to that exit on I-10 in Sulphur, LA many times - my wife has family who live less than a mile from where you stopped at that Chevron! One question... This is the first time that I've seen a speedometer read lower than the GPS speed. Usually it's the other way around so that you don't get nabbed for speeding when going by the indicated speed on the speedometer. My Triumph Tiger 900's speedometer is probably 10% too low - it shows I'm doing about 60 mph when the GPS shows only 54 - 55 mph. Pretty annoying. Your speedometer was the opposite - maybe showing 64 with a GPS indicated 69. Did a sprocket change or tire size change cause this flip?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  7 місяців тому

      Yep, you have a keen eye! I recently installed a 16T front sprocket (+1) to see if it makes any difference in highway comfort or efficiency. The ratio change is -6.25% on the speedometer (and odometer), so the deviation is ~5 mph at 70 mph (indicated 65). Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      @QuasiMotard  7 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the feedback! I have several videos that discuss my helmet setup and software used for vlogging, but I don't have a single video with everything condensed into one place. I got lucky on my second try with my helmet recording setup. You can see the evolution of my helmet rig in these four videos:
      - First working config: ua-cam.com/video/D_lbmLdenHU/v-deo.html
      - Second iteration (Ulanzi vlogging case): ua-cam.com/video/XnzTe5dp01k/v-deo.html
      - Third upgrade to Hero11 (the GoPro Hero media mod sucks): ua-cam.com/video/qnfla5t9Oz8/v-deo.html
      - Final/current setup (Hero11 w/ Ulanzi case): ua-cam.com/video/As5IOYA7Xoc/v-deo.html
      The microphone that I use is from an older Cardo Scala G9X headset. The 3.5mm mic plugs directly into the GoPro's audio adapter, which has been excellent. I got lucky with that mic early in my vlogging escapades and stuck with it. The timbre and voice quality of the Cardo mic are drastically better than others that I've tried (e.g., Purple Panda, RØDE lavalier, etc). The other microphones I've tested allow too much wind noise or are over-saturated and cause the GoPro audio to distort at high speeds due to the wind noise.
      I edit all of my videos in Adobe Premiere Pro and apply minor audio corrections (e.g., level normalization and minor noise reduction) to keep everything smooth. However, most of the audio quality is due to Cardo's microphone and my quiet helmets (Schuberth C3 Pro and SHOEI NeoTec II). For group rides, I sometimes record the group conversations with a dedicated audio recorder (Zoom F1 or F2) and an extra Cardo PackTalk communicator joined into the mesh.
      If you're interested in all the gritty details, email me at quasimotard@gmail.com . I'll reply with my hardware & software settings, editing workflow, and other details that might help you on your quest. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  7 місяців тому +5

      🤣 Aside from the funhouse mirror view in my videos, that parablic mirror really works in traffic! That's the RiderScan Blindspot Mirror: amzn.to/3nJjXLp . If that one is out of stock, then there are several knock-offs that are cheaper and seem to work almost as well ( amzn.to/49WKaNu ). You can search Amazon or Ebay for "parabolic blindspot mirror" to find alternatives.
      This mirror really helps situational awareness in traffic. There is a learning curve to use it properly because the image is distorted by the mirror's convex shape, but it becomes second nature after a few hours of riding. It's very rare for me to be caught off-guard with a cager hiding in my blind spot while I'm riding with one of these mirrors. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

I'm blind in my left eye and it is VERY helpful to check for cars sitting in that blindspot on my left side. Thank you for sharing that mirror, I wouldn't have known it existed otherwise.

      The Garmin Zumo XT is a fantastic GPS unit if you can justify the ~$400 price tag: amzn.to/3Oai7Ba . The screen resolution is excellent and it's highly visible in all lighting conditions, but it gets bothered by heavy rain/water on the screen (activating the touchscreen). Some owners use screen protectors and sun/rain hoods over the top of the unit to reduce the touch sensitivity. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    Question: How can it hold 3.766 gallons of gas when I thought the tank was only 3 gallons?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  7 місяців тому

      The fuel tank on this 2014 Honda CB500X holds 4.5 gallons of fuel (including the 0.7 gal reserve). My 2013 Honda CB500F (naked version of the same bike) has a smaller tank that only holds 4.1 gallons, so the "X" version holds 0.4 more with its wider fuel tank. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  7 місяців тому +1

      My Rukka riding jacket is Goretex, but I don't ride with the inner liner due to southern heat & humidity. My over jacket used to be waterproof, but it has lost its DWR coating and isn't much better than a windbreaker now. I need to buy another AeroStitch suit, but those are seriously $$$$ these days... over $1500 for most options. 🫨 --QM

      Unfortunately, I haven't worked on any of the old Honda 70's in a long time. I don't trust Ebay or Amazon for those kinds of parts because they're usually cheap Chinese knock-offs. You might try David Silver Spares USA to see if they have parts for your bikes: www.davidsilverspares.com/CT70K1-1972-USA/ . Good luck with the maintenance chores! 😉👍 --QM

    What purpose is the curved mirror in the middle of your windshield

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  7 місяців тому +1

      This parabolic mirror really helps situational awareness in traffic because you can see 180° behind you. There is a learning curve to use it properly because the image is distorted by the mirror's convex shape, but it becomes second nature after a few hours of riding. It's very rare for me to be caught off-guard with a cager hiding in my blind spot while I'm riding with one of these mirrors. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      Meh... just personal preference and previous bad experiences. I had a few problems with bad fuel at Exxon stations in OKC and Austin (water and sediment contamination). Those instances were localized to those particular stations, but it left a bad impression on me.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  7 місяців тому

      That's a good idea... I might try one of the newer Frogg Toggs motorcycle rain suits. I've had mixed success with their ultra-lite gear that's not specifically designed for motorcycle use. I have several sets of the UL rain suits that I keep on my motorcycles and scooters for unexpected showers while riding and for hanging around camp in the rain (when the full road-ready rain gear is too hot/heavy to use).
      Those UL suits don't fare well in high winds or extended use on the highway because they balloon up and flap too much. The constant flapping kills them within about an hour... micro tears and perforations turn them into confetti. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
