I'm a young French aspiring artist and I love spending hours sur la Place du Tertre watching these incredible artists whenever we go to Paris. I hope one day to join them :D
Désolé mais c'est fini maintenant. Nous prions le ciel que, après les élections de l'année prochaine, Paris redevienne Paris.
Awww! I could watch these all day! 😊
Totally agree !! Drawing a still life picture with a single type of pencil is not an easy work ..It's a great effort indeed..
Ahhh god! I wish I draw soo good. This people are truly masters. Greetings from Poland.
Martine est incroyable! J'adore cette artiste!
Super
.nice
Lovely .
Best best best
Excellent videos - thanks so much for posting them, love seeing the artistry and working from life.
Drawing/painting is like a drug, I mean it's addictive but in a TOTALLY good way!
I wish I could do this for a living...
Thanks for sharing your vids, they are fantastic.
These days 50 euros is the norm for a monochrome drawing.Double that for colour work.
I worked in Rome in 1981 ( spanish steps) and I was charging 15,000 lira. at that time for a portrait.
A beer cost 1000 lira!
I was working for 15 beers a portrait...food was cheap .I used to eat near the railway station with the working people::5000 lira for a massive meal with wine
A kid busker some times came in and sing "bella ciao". Those were the days....
We also use Derwent pencils.Make sure you use a sharp cutter when sharpening your pencils. Some colours are more fragile than others. For example the No47 naples yellow conte pastel is incredibly fragile.A lot of artists use stabilo carb othello which are softer . the range of flesh colours offered by Othello is excelent.
THIS VIDEO WAS FANTASTIC! bravo.. well narrated and enjoyable to watch as i am working on my painting :)
Thank you so much for this insirational video, you really helped me a lot!

Belles dames jolies peintures beaux dessins
Bravo les artistes
J'aime la place du tertre Paris 18 ELe
what an inspiration
@denisblog 3rd artist is Martine(.around2.24)She is using sanguine on Ingres paper. If you watch in1080pHD full screen size you can see the very characteristic linear ingres grain.
I noticed at some point you said that the artist isn't using any eraser. well, the pencil she was using was sanguine pastel pencil, even if you had an eraser you couldn't use it because that pencil can't be erased haha I know because I struggle with this in university, if you get one line wrong, you have to redraw everything from the beginning haha, great video mate
Great video and commentary. Thanks.
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Amazing !!!
Excellent job.
Thanks for your answer.
07:00 sweet boy, beautiful :*
Inspirational video thanks. Respect to the artists at Montmatre! I am a decent portrait artist but learnt so much watching this and saw so many ideas I want to try now. Any chance of more videos like this?
Je suis aussi🤔
Wow
nice techniques...
4:35 A very "Ingres Technique"
Yes Rob. Very linear, almost no shading. Ingres was very linear in his approach. Picasso was a master of line, too. Portraitists like Rembrandt used light and shade to incredible effect. Caravaggio's dramatic use of directional lighting is probably the best example of an artist "seeing" in terms of volume. But pure line drawings can have real impact, and volume can also be suggested by line. All these ways of representing reality are valid, and we are seeing more artists experimenting with different styles at Montmartre now than ever before, which is a really positive development.
on the last portrait is he using a midtone paper is that so that is fantastic
Great video
Thank"s!!!
A lot of parents had me draw their kids because the photographer couldn,t do the job. For instance, one kid refused to sit up straight and hold still. Another little girl had two diffefent eye colors that no camera could capture. Add to that, an artist can see in 3D whereas a camera has only one plane of focus.
I see the point, however as occasional street artist, I'd like to know more about professionists' choice as to make things easier. For example, I see that Montmartre artists use Conté a Paris pastel pencils. I have a set of Derwent pastel pencils and though I like Derwent products I am not very happy with these as they break off easily. Should I try Conte pastel pencils (they are not easy to find in Italy). Thank you.
2:20 is SICK!!!!
EDIT : ...... then I saw 9:20! :O
@archangelmike07 On this particular day I was walking around filming all the artists
so I don't have footage from A to Z of that drawing. The artist is not in Paris at the moment but I promise to film her a.s.p.
Thank you for your comment;more videos coming soon.
1:43-2:07 Portrait?...there's a portrait being drawn? Oh yeah, ok, sorry, what were you saying?
Do you know please, what kind of paper is the artist using? at 08:45
How much do the artists' charge for a portrait and how long does it take them to complete a portrait typically? I'm an art student in Florence, Italy and interested in doing this. Thank you for any information you have to enrich me with!
Do yo have the names of all the Artist
too funny when he says artist is only using one pencil. you can clearly see thy got 2 hehe but never the less awesome.
ok
Делитанты, ни за одним из них нет школы рисунка.
А в чем именно это проявляется?
Рисуют очень и очень плохо!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You don'tknow notting!
You don't even now how to spell nothing correctly :)
i am not eng lish but you are an ignorant
U have notting on u paage. You r notting....
"It's a very courageous way to draw."
You know, Davy, I never thought one could encounter fear in being artistic, but the little experience that I have has given me a nasty wake-up call. As you imply in the video, you really do need courage to be an artist and to become proficient in your medium. If you allow fear to seep into your psyche, the artist and his work will show it. At 8:43 is a magnificent piece. EXCELLENT video (as always)..
D'accor est-ce perfeito 😅
This is a F. Parto portrait. CANSON paper.....but please take note this is not publicity for any brand of paper. This artist could have worked wonders on any material.(including toilet paper)
It really is NOT about paper or pencils, it is about sensitivity and observation.
There are no short cuts..no magic solutions you can buy.Just keep drawing on
ANY paper.
Im loving this video. Please post more like these.
Vraiment c trop beau, les gars sont trop fort,j'aimerai savoir kel matériel utilise celui qui travail avec le pinceau,c'est quoi de l'huile,et comment il arrive a étaler sans probleme si c'et de l'huile???
Oh, I'm smitten with Mila Kunis, damn shame I'm twice her age, humm.... Hope that doesn't sound creepy, she's smart and has looks, which very rare for Hollywood types.
lol It's not THAT hard to use just one pencil. It's just a different way of approaching the piece.
The 1st subject on charcoal ( i think) is good. Do you have a full coverage on that portrait? I want to see it from beginning to end. Please upload it!
t hank your techniques.
These portrait artists are incredible!!!! Can you tell me the paper he used for the 3rd drawing. Thanks
How much do these artists charge and how long do these portraits take?
So, what's stopping you?
Köszönöm, hogy láthattam, hogyan dolgoztok :)
Thank you so much it was so helpful.
Davy, I hope to meet you and get a portrait of my sister and me in September. It will be my first trip to Paris and will make a beautiful memento of our time there. Are you always located in the same place at Place du Tertre? Merci
My official emplacement is no.101...just ask one of the artists...you can contact me via my web site davylim.com
Davy Lim , merci, I will contact you before we go! We both would like one. I guess I should ask approximately what is the cost ?
The standard price is around 50 euros per portrait...the hardest part of this job is getting the first clients to sit down.If you guys can get in early you can kick -start my day.So we can go for 80euros for both of you. This channel is not about ME..it is giving exposure to ALL the artists in the square. Please, if you like my work you can contact me through my web site davylim.com
