    If you have leather interior, especially light colors, do not put tires up against them in the back seats, the rubber can transfer into the leather.

  • @benoitlaichinkon1836
    @benoitlaichinkon1836 9 років тому +16

    I've used done it that way, FYI your interior will get scratched, because of the metal parts of the bike moving and pressing onto the plastic surface of the car. The fork also may puncture the textile of the back surface of the front 2 seats Remember to bring come cardboard, or other compressible material.

      +Benoit Lai Chin Kon That's good advice! Always handy to have a soft blanket or similar in the boot for this purpose.

    • @christianbarnay2499
      @christianbarnay2499 5 років тому +3

      Also add some rope to the front and back to attach it firmly. It reduces the scratching and has the bonus effect of preventing the bike from flying around dangerously when you're involved in a car accident.

  • @bobhindle7958

    My Mountain bike fits into the back of my VW Golf (seats folded flat and passenger seat slightly forward) without removing a wheel. I find it easiest to put the back wheel in first (about half way) then lower it down until the tyre rests on a sheet or blanket then slide the bike fully in on the sheet/blanket until the rear wheel just touches the rear of the passenger seat. Then angle the handlebars to allow the boot lid to close. This gives minimal loading on my back and no scratches to the car. I'm hoping to use the same technique when I buy an electric bike, obviously the bike will be heavier but maybe if I remove the battery first it might work.

  • @christianbarnay2499
    @christianbarnay2499 5 років тому +14

    You should also attach it tightly to several solid anchor points so that it doesn't crush your skull if you are involved in a car accident.
    If you get a hard impact the bike will just be a heavy uncontrolled object flying through the cabin.
    All your great skilled and careful driving won't save you when some other car has a mechanical failure and rams into yours.

    You dont need to remove the front wheel.
    1. Just put your bike from the rightside back door
    2. Once the bike is abt 80% in the car, lift the front wheel up a bit, make sure your front wheel attached to the inside left rear door.
    3. Turn the handle 45° to the left.
    4. Shove the back wheel into the car.
    Step 3 and 4, need to adjust accordingly.

      Hmmm yes there is a risk of that. A smart idea is to keep a blanket or something in the back of your car. That way when you put the bike into to the back, you can use a blanket to cover the bits that might scratch the car. I know it can be tricky getting it in with bashing against something!
