The Boeing 707 was an incredible "piece of metal" just like the DC-8. First, you can start with Alvin "Tex" Johnston, the chief 707 test pilots, who introduced us to this iconic airplane in a "wild" kind of way. Then, the majority of airlines wanted in on this exciting Boeing approach, to challenge the De Havilland Comet 4 with a higher capacity airplane, that became the stepping stone to commercial jet travel. Although the DC-8 came shortly afterwards and was also successful, the 707 was still going to be a step ahead with selling many more airplanes. This is what really impressed the airlines.

The Boeing 707 is truely the anchor of Jet Airline Aviation. It raised the bar for all manufacturers to excel beyond it's innovations. Without diminishing Boeing's achievements, it established a Base Line for all others to move from.

I have to add one thing regarding the military variants of the 707. The 707 prototype, the Dash 80, was directly put into production as a military aircraft under the designation C-135 with the KC-135 tanker variant being the most produced. Between the Dash 80 prototype and the 707 production model quite a few changes were made, mainly the widening of the fuselage by a few inches and as such it's designated C-137 in the US military. Both models look the same to the naked eye and unless someone were to get up close with a measuring tape they couldn't tell the difference.
The -135 was mainly built as a tanker variant, the KC-135, although a small batch of non tanker frames were built and put into service in the 60s and still serving in limited numbers and capacity.
The -137 were built or converted from previous civilian ownership model, the 707, in significantly larger numbers in the military than the non tanker -135 were to do much of the other functions not related to air refueling, the E-3, E-6 and E-8 for electronic warfare and airspace monitoring, the former distinguished by the huge circular dome, the VC-137 "Air Force One" air frames.
I think this information is correct but I could be missing something.

For your note, the last two digits in ‘120’ and ‘320’ denote customer ID number, which in this case is the designation for Boeing prototype (20). PAA is 21, AA, 23, TWA, 31, and so on. In later years, Boeing added letters of the alphabet to meet a growing list of customers. For example, H4 denotes Southwest Airlines, AS, Ryanair.
In all, Boeing made four commercial versions of the 707, namely series 100, 200, 300 and 400. You do not need to add ‘20’ to identify each series.
That said, you can successfully argue that the Boeing 720 is in fact a Boeing 707-000 (a fifth version), because that’s precisely the case. UAL was the launch customer, and did not want ‘707’ in the name for marketing purposes. You see, 707’s are a bit faster than DC-8’s (the flagship of UAL’s jet fleet at the time), and UAL didn’t want the public to make that connection when it highlighted the speed of the 720 (which was the fastest 707 version of all). Point: all of UAL’s key competitors flew 707’s instead of 8’s, these being AA, TWA, CO and PAA.
The DC-8-62 would eventually settle the score with the 707-300. It could cruise just as fast, only farther, and… it was stronger and far more durable. (UAL flew the -62 as well.)

Great video! The 707 was indeed a milestone in aviation history. My 1st airplane ride was on a 707-300, Aer Lingus from JFK to SNN Ireland. My next two flights were cool too- a BEA Vickers Vanguard from Dublin to London and a VC-10 for the trip home. I always liked the 707 over the DC-8, but the DC-8 was a great machine too, and since it was better suited to stretch models it enjoyed a longer service life. The ventral fin on the bottom of the rear fuselage wasn't in the original plan but the Britts required more directional stability when BOAC opted for the more powerful RR Conway engines (same as the VC-10). That model became the 707-420. The ventral fin became standard on all -300s and -400s. One correction, Fowler flaps are trailing edge flaps, the 707 used Krueger flaps at the leading edge. It's descendant, the 727 used Krueger flaps inboard and slats outboard. Keep up the good work!
