- today i talk about all things scandinavian and french style with none one other than the super talented fashion youtuber justine leconte !

since justine is originally from france, and i'm of course as swedish as they come, we decided to dig deep into the essence of scandinavian vs french style. what do french people never leave the house without, and what's ok to wear to work in scandinavian countries ?
we also found out what a scandinavian fashionista wouldn't be caught dead in, and why french people hate print on print.
these are just some of the points we are touching on today, and yes - we will generalise heavily ! ^.^

I live in the U.S. where the thought is, the more the merrier!
After traveling the world I only see Swedish and scandanavian girls wearing sweatpants or pajamas everywhere. French girls almost always dress eloquently.

I love this collaboration, but as a daughter of a Swedish banker I have to say that we do have fields of work where it's a must to wear a suit, all day every day and no casual Fridays 😅
Alva F | Exactly. I’m a lawyer from Amsterdam, but I’ve been to the Stockholm office as well. In corporate environments, people all wear suits.
My lawyer friend doesn't wear suits 😅

Of course they wear formal clothing at a bank. Even in the most relaxed countries people look formal when working as a banker. 😩
Definitely! In some fields a suit is a must. Lawyers, bankers etc. She's too young to be aware of that.
People do wear suits in Sweden, but only in certain fields such as law, business, and sometimes government.
She lives in Berlin, so she doesn't know what is going on in Sweden.
I like the idea of this video, but I think the title should’ve been “France style vs Swedish style” cause if you take a look at Stockholm and Copenhagen, the style is very different.

I'm from Paris and I think it really depends on the work environment as well a personal style. I worked in a few biology labs and everyone dressed however they wanted, most of us were in jeans and sneakers.
living in finland, men definitely wear suits at very formal work places, like banks etc. also wearing shorts for work seems impossible in any environment..
ann that sounds nice, I think it gives a more respectful hint of a company actually. I mean...a boss in shorts? Whats wrong with being nicely dressed on work and relaxed AFTER work :) go finland!
bubble bubbly id love to know where people are allowed to wear shorts. i dont think id have a problem with it but ive just never seen it so it seems really weird haha.

Privat it is not, even tho many people associate finland to be part of scandinavia in these topics, especially people who arent from the nordic countries/europe. and other countries have shared their view on the topic as well so might as well throw finland in there as well.
Yeah, I worked for Danish company and I never saw any manager wearing anything other than a suit :D Not full suit every single day, sometimes they'd wear jeans and a blazer but that's still way more formal than shorts.
I wouldn’t call it scandinavian, because there are differences. In Norway you will find pretty formal offices or companies, so you will see men and women in suits quite frequently and more so in bigger cities 🙂
I don't think its the same. Not like in France and other countries.
Trust me, it's not the same. Norwegians are the most chill when it comes to dress codes and office wear. Well I supposed we could debate with scandinavian country is the most chill, but seriously, if you see someone on the street in a suit in Norway, chances are high that it's a visiting Morman missionary.
@MissCaraMint; I guess you don't live in Oslo huh? :P I see people in suits all the time, though they are often dressed down (ie unbuttoned jacket and top button of shirt, sometimes no tie)
I bet she was making some start up IT office as it example. Yes that style works there. Basically as long as you cover ur essentials, you can get away with anything. Most of the places do not allow it tho.
It's like that in Swenden as well, Ronniechops. Of course it is. I'm starting to wonder where Jenny Mustard spends her time when she's in Stockholm, because of course there are men in the streats in suits.

Hehe, yes! My (French) mother calls this "the German jacket".
"Did you see the man over there?" - "Which one, mum?" - "The one in the German jacket!"
That's so true, it pains me. XD Always practical.
I've also noticed that German women rarely go out with bags; most of them have (stylish) backpacks. I lived for a couple of months in Berlin, and that's what I saw.
In general, I fear to say this, but it's the truth: Germans don't care about style much. Non-native Germans, though, pay a lot more attention to how they look. :3
And shoes that can walk on any kind of ground 😂
that's true for czech republic, too... people would even wear a suit or an evening dress with a sportswear jacket (sold for skiing) :D also, everyone wears trekking shoes just to walk around a city or to work :D
Jogha Ella A lot of Berlin girls wear that Scandi brand backpack in the last 5-7 years.. it fits with the hipster crowd, that has been growing in Berlin in the last decade

Justine, everything you say is so true, I'm french too and most of those cultural things like light make up, the pair of ballerina, the fitted blazer (I have since for ever), the heels (I was recently in Poland and I live in London, there the women are ultra feminine like knee high boots, mini skirts and dresses, super long hair and mostly skinny!), even all the things in my purse is exactly like you said (it's like a survival kit). I recently enjoy mixing it with british edgy fashion because I think it's more fun but tone in down when I go back home in Nantes! Great series!!

In the US, the workplace dress is bit more formal where there are 4 seasons than in the warmer climate such as the south or western part of the country. Also your industry dictates the level of style and formality. Retail is certainly casual but can be edgy depending on personal style, whereas finance is formal and probably mkre classic

Socks in sandals is the one thing i would never ever understand
Then you never walked long enough in sandals in hot weather. Because if you do your feet get extremly sweaty especialy if the sandals are of synthetic materials and if often chafes the skin. Because socks in sandals are considered so horrorable lot's of people wear sneakers but if you have very hot temperatures the feet will will also sweat. There is a reason why so many people suffer athletes feet/foot fungus.
I am a south american girl living in Germany. I do not get it either. The whole Point of sandals is that your feet are free and can breathe. We wear sandals all day long, by 30C and don't have this problem. If your sandals are hurting your skin, they are probably bad quality PU or just the wrong fit for you. This is the reason why I only buy leather. Socks and sandals is a huge No-go! Only people >60 wear them in Germany.

For people with sweaty feet i think, like me. Im just the type to slip when ive sat too long coz my feet has gone really sweaty :( the same goes when i wear sandals my feet kinda slip (inside the sandal) while walking so it makes for an awkward way of walking hahaha

Very nice videos, thank you both! And I wish I had known the answer to 'What do you wear for work' in France 5 years ago :D I lived in Paris and on the 3rd day of my internship I went with dark blue jeans and a blazer, but my tutor pulled me aside and explained that I should never do that again. I was so embarrassed, but that was a lesson learned for me :) I think I like the Scandinavian attitude more on that point.

Loved this two-part vid you both did together. I think I am a scandi girl at heart, I love the fashion, hygge lifestyle, the artful details in home design. Here, in the pacific northwest, USA, there is a lot of scandi influence in shops, homes, businesses.
