fantastic, lively performance! and it should be mentioned the 4 women you see on this stage- Bertha, Norma, Milly and Cal- are ALL original group members, and were all on the original record.
Oooo, I just love this song! Haven't heard this in so many years. Good to see them perform once again; they're as good today, as they were in '64! Terrific! 5+ stars.
Lovely ladies, I’ve just watched a short documentary on them, love them, I always thought they never got the massive break they deserve, but I reckon they’re good, contented people, I think they’re one of the best girl groups ever.Salford uk
They sure are a nice looking group of ladies! They sound great too. I love their songs. I had never heard most of them until their greatest hits was released. THey had some good songs.
When women were women..no sexual organs exposed to sell records..no bullshit dancing..no fake sounds..just music..fml take me back to these times please
At the taping, Cal was explaining to the piano player how to play the song. Pianist Joe Hunter said....you don't need to tell me, Cal, I played on the original recording! LOL Watch Norma on that "Yeah" at 1:43...love her!
At Motown they recorded and recorded and recorded and recorded by only a handful of records were released. The neglect of this act was criminal. Even the one album Motown planned was never issued! No wonder they gave up on show business. But today they are back, the originals, better than ever and everything they recorded for Motown finally was released in a beautifully programmed and designed Anthology with a few more tracks on various Motown collections. Justice took a long, long time but it did arrive.
I think you may be thinking of a song by Dusty when she was with The Springfields. It was called "Silver Thread and Golden Needles" and was a big radio hit and was not a Motown song, more of a country/folk song but great. I have never heard a cover of "Needle in a Haystack". It has always sort of been The Velelettes signature song, but "He Was Really Sayin' Something" is hot as well. They were both modest hits. I saw The Velvelettes in person once and: the word "regal" comes to mind. They are quite gorgeous ladies and naturals on stage. I do think Berry Gordy dropped the ball with this great group, but that's show biz...

This is (or maybe, was) a version of this really excellent song by Dusty Springfield on UA-cam also. But this one is fab regardless of any others.
