We have, or had, a 90 yo cherry tree covered with dramatically interesting burls. We loved looking at it, it was the greatest yard ornament ever. Everyone who visited remarked on it. But last week it fell down. Knowing that burls are valuable, I started looking for someone in my local area (NW Oregon) who might want it. Haven't been able to find anyone yet. I see you're in Grants Pass, any chance you might want to travel all the way to Portland area? If this is too far for you, do you know someone else who might want it? At this point, I'm not even hoping for money anymore, just don't want this fantastic tree to just rot down there in the mud. I'd let someone have it in exchange for cutting up the large limbs into firewood (except for the burls on the limbs, of course) and sending me photos of the works of art that get created.
Thanks, this information should help Mr find my own crafting burls.
@2:15, what kind of tree was that? Madrone?

Great vid & info Thx Greg 👍

So, how far below ground do burls go?
Were those mostly Madrona that had the burls at the base?
Yes a base burl and some oak air burls
So that's a Madrona burl. Why is it that hard wood makes the best burls ?
I got old growth myrtlewood trees with burls the size of semi's all over my property, investers?
Dave's a weird little dude.
