    Background is the one major thing that you cannot change after character creation, so choose wisely. The Perception skill, is probably the single best skill due to the number of passive checks that occur. It’s used for finding hidden objects, traps, and often in dialogue.

    • @DanteYewToob
      @DanteYewToob Місяць тому +1

      Gtk… thanks!
      Perception is absolutely something I tend to forget about, I don’t know why… I know how important it can be, but I just always forget about because I guess I get distracted by fancy spells and big bonk, sassy charisma and cool useful skills… poor perception always gets forgotten even though it’s probably the single most useful skill if you want to find loot and not step on every damn trap in the whole dungeon! Lmao

    This is going to come in handy when doing a second playthrough, now that I have an idea of the game. Thanks for the video, and for the guides, really helpful.

    Perception is useful on any character, even if they're not primarily Wisdom-based.

    Something important to point out with initiative is that unlike dnd 5e, the initiative die is a D4, not a d20.
    This makes initiative bonuses absolutely massive.

    Agreed about the choose your class first. This is what I always tell friends that are just jumping in. It IS kinda backwards on the character creator.

    • @IzraelGraves
      @IzraelGraves 10 місяців тому +2

      Its really not, its only backwards if you're character building for power or role first. If you're doing it as intended in the book, its roleplay focused, so you pick who you're born as, then who you become. Its all perspective.

  • @HiMatte
    @HiMatte Рік тому +6

    Cool vid! You should do an honor mode guide too 😤

  • @BlazeTube626

    Play however you want. I never got the point of min/maxing. It always ends up killing the for the sake of finishing fights 5-10 seconds faster. People tend to forget that Bg3 is an rpg and not an mmo.

  • @IzraelGraves
    @IzraelGraves 10 місяців тому +1

    Race then class isn't backwards, your priorities are. Roleplay first, you want to pick who you are born, then who you become. Class first makes sense if you're trying to build for combat or role.

    As a tabletop player. This is pretty good advice. However, I would say that 14 constitution is good for a front liner. Prolly only gonna need 16 early on, if you are playing Barbarian. 12 con is fine for ranged in my opinion.

    • @Cyb3rM1nd
      @Cyb3rM1nd Рік тому

      Yeah but casters will benefit from 14-16 con due to concentration and being squishy hp rise.

    • @youngimperialistmkii

      @@Cyb3rM1nd hp is useful for everyone. But those points are imo better used elsewhere.

    • @GreenLightningHood
      @GreenLightningHood Рік тому +2

      @@youngimperialistmkiiI kind of agree with you. I think 14 is fine despite your class, but you might as well take con up to 16 on barb or a spellcaster that uses concentration if you don't actually need any other stats. For example my eldritch knight/warlock multiclass is pact of the blade and uses CHA for all of its damage and social interactions and uses heavy armor. I literally only need Charisma for this build and everything else is just optional so might as well take 16 con there for my saving throws.

    • @youngimperialistmkii
      @youngimperialistmkii Рік тому +1

      @@GreenLightningHood Indeed. Heavy armor proficiency on a caster negates the need for dex. So yeah, pump con.

    It gets tiring adhering to the typical fantasy stereotypes. I love making complicated yet against the grain characters that still have some great advantage. So I made a barbarian Drow. I did ot for the animations and diffoculty

    For Proficiencies I really prefer my face character (the main one I'm going to play) to have a wider range of skills. So something like a Wood Elf and selecting a background that gives new skills. I'd rather have the +2 in 5-6 skills then a +5 in one or two. Then when I can respec my other companions attempt to focus them on certain skills so that when required I can rely on them to assist me in those occasions like a Rogue for lockpicking and stealing or a Barb for trading and talking to NPC's. Meanwhile for the majority of gameplay dice rolls I can just be satisfied with my character having a smaller bonus across more things giving me a higher average of succeeding.

  • @isidornimages

    Trying to min/max for an optimal build on the first playthrough is kinda futile if you're not already very familiar with D&D 5E and even then, the game itself has things you can't really know until you've played it (or has vacuumed the internet for all kinds of guides). For completely new players a guide on how to not make a complete disaster character is probably better than how to min/max.

    3:45 careful you do not become an oathbreaker Paladin, as you won't be able to respec unless you pay 1000gold, staking up to 10000 gold at some point

    • @rossedwardmiller
      @rossedwardmiller Рік тому +1

      Paladin is so good but the restriction to choices means you really have to think before you act as a paladin. I was trying to be a nice guy re-animating the dead husband of a certain character... whoops.

So many different options every time keeps it very entertaining instead of the martials who do the same thing every turn.
