    ▷ ABOUT ME
    Hello! My name is Kristen, I am 22 years old, from Sacramento CA, and I am graduating in the Spring with my BA in Psychology. I created this channel for three reasons that are very close to my heart. One, to help others be able to tell their stories and be advocates for mental health, to give recovery tips and tricks to help others find the help they need, and to spread awareness for mental health issues to fight the stigma surrounding it. The more we talk about mental illness the more normalized it will be in our society and the more people will not be ashamed to get help!

      I try to be as open and honest about my mental health struggles and gains - whenever it makes sense to in an effort to normalize it. I'll bring up that "I've been seeing my psychiatrist for two years" or that I've been diagnosed with ADHD and take a stimulant, so that eventually people realize, oh if this guy this stuff, then maybe it's okay for me to do so too. Great video Kristen!

      I made a youtube channel to raise awareness. I came out on facebook that i was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and other things. I also asked my old teachers what do they do about mental health with their students. One said he makes his students write a paper on it. felt good to know

    When a person with a severe mental health problem commits an act of violence, I find that the incident can usually be blamed on improper treatment or just a flat out lack of treatment. And in many cases the mental health problem may be unrelated to that act of violence.

    I only found your channel recently, and I'm so glad I did. Everyone I know says I'm too young to be depressive, because I'm only thirteen, but I've been self harming for about half a year, and I only told my parents on Christmas Eve (because I was backed into a corner with no way out but the truth) so I basically ruined Christmas, and now my dad, one month later, thinks all my problems have gone away, even though they're deepening and getting worse, and I've considered suicide more than once, even standing on the edge of a cliff near my house, kinda hoping a gust of wind would make me lose my balance.
    But you, Kirsten, have helped me so much, so thank you. Thank you so, so much.

    if people are going to be dumb and diagnose the weather with mental illness, borderline makes more sense than bipolar lol at least get it right!
    jk I understand stigma. unfortunately for me my mom sometimes uses my diagnosis to basically invalidate my feelings cause I "feel emotions more deeply than most people."

    You made a eugenia cooney related video around the time that people were talking about her so I'm assuming you're somewhat okay with discussing issues on UA-cam related to mental health. How do you feel about onision and how he claims he's the cure for many girls who have SH and ED issues? Also do you know of the new collab channel called "trash"? The people on the channel constantly throw out self-deprecating phrases. Some people think it's funny because they assume it's a joke. I'd love to hear your thoughts.. thanks for the video and your wings are on point today!!

    • @Safeara397
      @Safeara397 7 років тому +1

      guiltmenot Well, I'm not Kristin but I can tell you my views on one of those things, being Onision. MANY people disagree with the way he talks about self-harm and eating disorders, but there are a ton of people who actually HAVE been able to recover from those things by hearing what he has to say in the seemingly harsh way he says it. People can hate it as much as they want, but it won't change the fact that for some people, that actually IS what they need to hear.

    • @juliejealousy
      @juliejealousy 7 років тому

      Luna Rose I think it's important that people recover through legitimate therapy and they need to learn to love themselves and see themselves as beautiful. I was in an abusive relationship and I felt really good about myself at first because I was showered in compliments but then I was entirely degraded and my self-esteem plummeted. Once I took the time to be single and stick to therapy, my self-worth isn't affected by what people think of me or say. I think it's nice he helps people but I personally don't feel it's the right approach because he's truly trying to manipulate his younger audience so no one will see him as a sociopathic narcissist. That's just my opinion though.. I respect that you see him differently.
      Also recently I noticed he posted a video where he said his wife was on bipolar medication and he preferred she not take it because her doctors were wrong... that's completely ridiculous. He said he liked her the way she was without medication. That was just one point I can't ignore. He can't overstep a clinician and if someone stops taking their medication cold turkey, they can get really sick. Even though he diagnosed himself with BPD or whatever he comes off as ignorant about mental health.

    • @Safeara397
      @Safeara397 7 років тому

      guiltmenot I don't see how the bipolar thing is relevant in any way, but I agree with your opinions on that, but with the first thing that was mentioned, although I do still agree that true therapy is important, people have achieved those exact same results from watching about 4 Onision videos and now don't care what people think, know that they're beauitful, and have stopped SH, ED, etc. and that's just fact. Manipulation has no benefit for him, people stopping selfharm and eating disorders does not benefit him. You might say "views and support" but this one fact hasn't changed your mind, so I honestly think he just knows that those things aren't helping people and aren't healthy, so he just tells them that it's pointless and not helping them, and some people can take that and turn it into a healthy recovery with other coping skills. Some people it may hurt, or they get offended, but he doesn't put those people down, he puts down the methods they use to cope, and for some, that's just enough. I don't even watch is videos, I've just seen his ones on mental health, just so you know that I'm not a crazy die hard fan 😊😂

    I agree mostly with things you say, and it's with good heart! But it does get very annoying if you maybe make a joke about OCD (I have OCD btw) and people become aggressive or passive aggressing trying to correct your speech. Main point, if you're correcting people, do it rarely and politely. Don't make them feel trashy about what they said just because you don't agree with it.

    I know most people who are mentally ill arent violent but what about those of us who are? I wouldnt consider myself damgerous at the moment but in the past I have lashed out amd causes fires - does that mean I'm worth less than people who arent violent/dangerous? I dont think so.

      some people suffering with a mental illness can be violent and that can be really sad. When this happens we should not look away from the problem or blame the mental illness. We should work toward getting these people the help they need and spread awareness for these types of treatments to help others.

      @angelicheed5843 7 років тому

      Luna Rose I believe it can be rude, but it can also not be rude. It depends in the person, but it also depends on the relationship between those people and what they were doing previously.

    • @Safeara397
      @Safeara397 7 років тому

      Angelic Heed Okay, thanks. 😊 And what about someone describing themselves as that, rather than calling themselves OCD (possibly because they've realized that they aren't)? It's clearly an improvement, but is it still bad?

    • @angelicheed5843
      @angelicheed5843 7 років тому

      Luna Rose I suppose it is an improvement to being self aware :), personally I believe it would greatly improve your chances of getting it under control and not letting it control you, but as I had said before, it all depends on the persons view and mindset.
