That's because it's actually 6 strings in 3 courses of 2 (that is, in pairs that are always playing the same pitch, either in unison or at the octave), like a 12-string guitar has 6 pairs. That's what gives them both that jingly sound.
Well, sure he's good, I'm not denying that, but non musicians often fail to realise that there is a lot of transferable skills between musical instruments (meaning that if you know how to play the first one, it'll be easier to learn the second one, and if you know two, the third one will be even easier to learn, etc). It is even truer within a category of instruments; for example if he knows how to play the guitar, he won't struggle too much with the banjo, lute, this Turkish thing, etc. Notice how he's not venturing into playing the violin or cello for example, which are altogether more difficult to play well, require specific and constant training and talent and an are entirely different ball game.
That man is an absolute genius at everything he does. Great pal of Sean Lock, together they were hilarious. I still miss Sean and Bill is so underrated, amazingly talented but still down to earth, humble very funny guy.
That was so beautiful! I love it when Bill Bailey is on the guest list. He always plays for us and just like this, it's beautiful. He's such a talented man! Bravo! 👏👏👏👏👏
Bill Bailey is the most versatile articulate musician, comedian, actor and showman - (I loved his guest appearances in Hustle too!) he is a true talent and so humble while bathing in his stratospheric talent, but I am guessing on the whole he enjoys a quiet private life....
You ask any C64 programmer what they can do with just three 'voices' and you can get amazing things, it just takes the person knowing how to make the best uses of what you got.
Well known instruments wherever Ottoman Empire was. They use it in Bosnia, my place of birth, but I've never heard it like this. I wish people would experiment more with traditional instruments.
The problem is whenever someone does try this they get accused of cultural appropriation. Look how Paul Simon got vilified for using South African musicians and rhythms in his Graceland album.
Bill Bailey that sound was was fantastic and your playing of this instrument is amazing thank you very much. The only equivalent reply is that it truly was radical man and what a great sound Is produced?!!!
He did a two and half hour set here in Wellington NZ last night. Just brilliant and mad the whole evening. If you get the chance to see him live don’t hesitate.
@OfficialGrahamNortonChannel I’m in America. Recently moved from Michigan to North Carolina. I was over the moon happy you see you had Craig David on your show. He is my favorite British music artist 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Years ago there was a thing on twitter about entering Bill Bailey as the UKs entry to Eurovision. I think about that often, (YES PLEASE), and what would it take to get Bill up there playing a ukulele or something and singing a little folk song. I would love that and I think Europe would too.
Bill Bailey is so underrated for his musical talent.
Bill is clearly a polymath. He is such a brilliant and funny man.
Bill Bailey is a National Treasure! He needs to be seen more!
I agree. What I do not agree with is the sound of the instrument. It's awful.

As a Turkish person I felt so emotional hearing one of my favorite songs played with our saz by a great talent Bill Bailey ❤❤❤
What is it called?
@@DD-ty6wm The instrument is called "saz", but in Turkey the traditional saz is smaller.

I think Roger McGuin would agree.
