    Removing the atmosphere in order to pop a ball is the logical equivalent of moving the universe around you in order to get to a different spot. Never change, Cody.

    An EVA suit in operation is a lot like a fully inflated ball. That's why astronauts are always so stiff-legged when hopping and floating around. You have to appreciate the strength and endurance used to manipulate such a stiff suit for hours. You also have to appreciate the ingenuity that went into making the joints (especially in the gloves) capable of bending under human strength alone.

    Cody, so after doing a little searching of the Interwebz I found reasonable figures for the volume and surface area of a Football.
    They are:
    Volume: 232 Cubic Inches
    Surface Area: 189 Square Inches
    Using this figure as our interior Surface Area I'll show some interesting results at different pressures as they relate to the Total Force the the Ball is resisting.
    09 PSI: 1700 Pounds (1.7 Tons)
    32 PSI: 6048 Pounds (3.0 Tons)
    40 PSI: 7560 Pounds (3.8 Tons) (Cody's estimated Bursting Pressure)
    Pretty amazing stuff !!
    Thanks Cody for another mind stimulating Video !!

  • @blackbirdpie217
    @blackbirdpie217 7 років тому +1

    14.7 psi is standardized "sea level" pressure. If you over-pressurize the ball by that much it would emulate the vacuum of space.

    I used to work in a OTR truck shop and we inflated the tires on those big rigs and trailers to 110 lbs. So one day without thinking I needed to air up my ten speed tires. I hooked the hose to the stem and stepped away forgetting it would only take a second or two to reach 100 lbs. rather than the few minutes. In about 5 seconds I needed a new tube

    • @VipulTakkarKalib3r
      @VipulTakkarKalib3r 7 років тому +5

      fatemonkey Reading different opinions doesn't change the fact that it's a handegg. Most of the time you're using your hand and it hardly has the shape of the ball. So, yes it's a handegg.

    • @fatemonkey
      @fatemonkey 7 років тому +3

      Vipul Takkar Did you even read it? That's not an opinion you fucking dimwit. And actually, that changes a lot. It means it should still be called football instead of hand egg.

    • @fatemonkey
      @fatemonkey 7 років тому +1

      Vipul Takkar That statement is contradictory. You said I justified it, and then said it didn't change anything. If I did justify it, the yes it would've changed something(try rereading my previous comment(you seem to have trouble with comprehension)), and i clearly did justify it because of the previously supplied evidence.

    • @VipulTakkarKalib3r
      @VipulTakkarKalib3r 7 років тому +1

      fatemonkey you're reading between the lines. The word "justifying" appears to be part of a continuous tense. Had it been a perfect tense I would have agreed with this statement. So yes, there is some trouble with comprehension, just not from my end. Nice try for a comeback though. Also, if you consider opinions on quora as a thread for proof, I'm pretty sure this conversation won't amount to anything. Lastly, the name "football" for that handegg is still absurd thereby "It doesn't change anything". :)

    • @fatemonkey
      @fatemonkey 7 років тому +1

      Vipul Takkar Ok, then I'll give you another several links:
      www.primermagazine.com/2009/field-manual/know-it-all-why-is-american-football-called-“football”

      www.reference.com/sports-active-lifestyle/american-football-called-football-dd642bcc9626a910
      Or if you were smart enough to do your own research, then you would just google why it's called football and this conversation wouldn't be happening.

    Someone over inflated a soccer ball at my school then it got left in front of a heater then it exploded during class because the air inside expanded and the heat softened the synthetic outer casing. It was really loud.

    Most of the world is sitting around talking about super bowl this, super bowl that, and Cody's just like, "I wonder how much I have to inflate a football before it explodes in a vacuum chamber." That's why I watch this channel. :P

    Since nobody seems to have mentiobed it yet: the slow mo guys recently did a football exploding in atmosphere at 28.000 fps.
    They said themselves it was not the smartest they've ever done, but now it does make an rather interesting comparison...

    once me and my friends stopped to pump our mountain bike tires at a lorry pump station.
    it went from completely flat to "boom" within two seconds. loudest noise i've ever heard and made me go 90% deaf in one ear and about 80% on the other. everything just turned really quiet all of the sudden. there was a high pitched tone for a while there, but it wasn't that loud.
    took two weeks to recover my hearing fully. wasn't fun thinking it might be permanent for all that time.

    While I won't discount the danger here, I'm glad you tested the pressure in the chamber, then pumped it no higher than that original pressure, so you at least could be decently sure it wouldn't pop on you before it went in. Some idiot might've just sent it to 40 in atmosphere and blown themselves up

    I learn new things every time I watch Cody even on videos you wouldn't expect at first glance to learn much. I thought it was cool that the balloon didn't have enough pressure because of the amount of Gass in the balloon to make it keep expanding it makes absolute since but it's something I never thought about or knew about.

    It's amazing to me how air pressure or the lack of it can create such an explosion, it's difficult for me to get my head around the whole notion if I'm honest.

    New term for the day. When a stitched seem is being stretched so you can see it, it's called a grin. just like a smile grin. UK upholstery term. means your stitches are to loose or your pulling to tight.

    Cody, you have a vacuum chamber but have you thought about making a pressure chamber? I think it would be cool to see things like how much air pressure an egg can handle and I would imagine there are loads of experiments relative to a pressure chamber. Big fan, keep being awesome!

    When I was younger, I pumped up a soccer ball with a compressor and it exploded in my hands, numbing them and ripping apart the skin between my index finger and thumb. I could see the muscle and tendon but luckily it happened so quickly I didn't feel anything. the cut was about 3 or 4 centimetres and I still have a scar.

    You may want to try a low pressure wind tunnel, having a fan blow at 1/3 atmospheric pressure onto a wing and see how it effects the lift compared to atm pressure

    I was thinking of a pressurized hot water cylinder insulated by a vacuum vessel surrounding it. So if the tank over pressurized at boiling point, the vacuum chamber would catch and contain the blast and water on failure, but as it turns out in my head, the vacuum would make the boiling point drop and cause a mahoosive steamy bang.

    the ball can handle alot of stress because it needs to survive 300-350 pound guys moving as fast as they can possibly run,accidentally stepping on or falling and landing on the ball, or dog piles of guys all weighing down on it.

    it would be interesting to see how the bladder and individual layers would hold up under vacuum. to know what exactly was the stronger material between the inner bladder and outer leather shell, he could cut the leather shell away and repeat the experiment with just the bladder inflated
