- On this episode we're at Bradenton Motorsports Park for FL2K20, we follow Calvo Motorsports during the roll racing invitational. They brought four 2000+WHP Gen V Vipers to compete and they are absolute animals, equipped with twin turbos, sequential transmission, and Motec ecu! Watch along as they battle it out with some of the fastest AWD cars on the east coast. Enjoy!

Maybe $50k into the engine with the hugely inflated costs of these exotic specialists - but it's just a small block Mopar(evolved a little) with 2 extra cylinders. Prefix-Arrow(OEM painters of the Ford GT & GenV Vipers, builders of concept cars, real legit OEM-level company) is THE company that put together this 9.0l stroker package and who builds the engines, and that includes...
block machining with sleeved cylinders
Callies billet crank
Callies forged rods
Mahle pistons w/ rings
bearings
camshaft + springs
CNC'd heads
a custom tune(presumably ARP fasteners as well)
...$26k for this package alone - which isn't bad considering it's a $7000 billet crank & a sleeved block - and $30k for this package built by Prefix-Arrow(and, imagine that, only $2500 of that difference is for assembly which is VERY reasonable for a 2000+HP capable build - because Prefix isn't an "exotic specialist" of course).
No "$50k easy" here - not unless the shop building the car is upcharging for someone else's work anyway...
It's just [an evolved] small block Mopar with 2 extra cylinders, that's it. There's nothing 'special' about building these things, nothing more 'special' than any other engine.
And, don't misunderstand, I certainly don't have a problem with these shops making their money - the market determines the cost of goods & services after all - but what I don't like is how so many things get completely misrepresented by some of these price tags. Without literally custom ordering parts for the sake of custom ordering them, these Prefix-Arrow stroker V10s are the baddest Viper V10s you can build. And anyone can order one for $30k with a core engine.
The '05 Ford GT is a great example - how much does it cost to build one for 2000HP? No more than it costs to build a Mustang Cobra or GT500/any other Ford Modular V8 for 2000HP. Even if the "exotic specialist" that you take your Ford GT to is going to charge a LOT more than the shop you would take your Mustang to, for the same thing.
Now imagine how expensive those turbo huracans are. And that teal GTR that looks more like a race car than a road car.
You can spend all the money in the world it all comes down to the driver and tune house secrets some our better some suck its a hobby

Want to know what the best part is? An 8.0+l Viper V10 weighs about 550lbs depending on the generation - a 3.0l 2JZ weighs 600lbs
Idiots that talk about HP/liter don't understand the concept of *power to weight* - nor how displacement doesn't correlate to weight(an aluminum 5.3l LS weighs ~ the same as the 7.0l LS7 - imagine that, just changing bore & stroke doesn't meaningfully affect weight...)

I'm biased (I have a 96 UGR TT GTS), but Vipers are just so badazz and timeless!
What shocked me was the Viper's getting out at lower speeds and the GTR's coming back on the big end. It's usually the other way around since the GTR's have AWD...

@@FlawleZ31 probably is. It’s got a nice drag race style spoiler that lowers drag. The viper has an ACR wing that makes literally over a ton of downforce at 180+, they were never meant to be top speed cars really, it’s incredible seeing what the calvo team is doing with them

@@dilsher12 Supra's were making 1000hp as a street car in the very early 2000's already and were running 6's in the 1/4 already. Lots of street cars were making 1000hp by then. 500hp as a street car was insane for MOST people because you had to have money to get there in the first place.

most v10s rev up around there , the only reason the viper doesn’t is because of how big the v10 is , it’s a 8.4L compared to most v10s being 4-5L

You can buy a viper for ~50k (I think) though price will vary. I recommend using autotempest to find them

Man as a kid/teen I used to be in love with the Gen3 Vipers...now seeing the Gen 4's again, I notice the design cues it took from the Gen 1&2 styling. Such sexy cars from just a visual stance and then you hear them at WOT makes ya wanna sell everything to own one.
Those are all G5s, with the exception of the Nth Moto G3.

GTR's sure are fast but they look like stripped out race cars to do it. Those Vipers were so much more standard in the cockpit than I was expecting! The highway footage showing the interior of those cars blew me away with how nice they were inside. Proper street cars.

@@jordansmobiledetailing5097 Just about every GT-R that runs good now are gutted purpose built race cars, not real street cars. If you look at the GT-R at 12:41-12:44, that front end is fake. Those headlights are stickers. Also, it doesn't have side view mirrors which also makes it illegal on the street. Not to mention it is on slicks all the way around, and has 15'' drag rims on the back. The White Viper is on stock sized wheels. The Vipers are 100% street legal. I have only seen one GT-R that ran with the big boys that wasn't on 15'' wheels and slicks, and it was an ETS car.

Lol MDR (blue GT-R) would walk any Viper there. Let's not lie to ourselves. Viper got lucky no excuses had some issues with map sensors and with a boost leak that couldn't be addressed on site. GT-R traps 204-206 from a dig. MPH these vipers will never see.

Imagine putting more than double the cost of the car (and a $100k car at that!) into modifications.
