- Kailashnath is a widower, and father of an only son, Ramesh. He feels that his son has come of age, and must get married. He goes to see a number of young ladies for him, but is disappointed with them, as he feels they are too modern, speak English, and listen to foreign music. He feels that Ramesh will be better off marrying a non-English speaking lady, preferably from a small village. But the predicament of Ramesh is that he is already in love with Ramola, a very well qualified, English speaking Doctor, and he knows fully well that she will not be approved by his dad. So Ramesh, Ramola and Lalaji concoct a plot, making Ramola masquerade as a naive, non-English speaking village belle, with hilarious and unpredictable results.

As a child, I was allowed to watch only the movies made by Shri Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee. Their films were fantastic.
Yes, absolutely. Myself a great fan of late Hrishikesh Mukherjee from my childhood after seeing his 'Aashirwad' (1969). He possessed such a quality that audience suddenly starts cry due to emmotion while laughing in comedy scene and vise-versa. But Basu da was a light comedy movie maker.

You are partially correct because in those days also lot of garbage movies were made(though not as worse as today) and directors and filmmakers like Hrishikesh Mukherjee ,Basu Chatterjee used to provide oxygen for the industry to survive.

the greatest of all abhimaan and anand- these two are like kohinoor's in the treasure of hrishi da. almost every movie is clean , simple with a proper dose of comedy, emotions, moral values, no nudity, no vulgarity, in short a total family film which can bring the family together to watch together.
