Georgia On My Mind, Stardust, Lazy River, Hong Kong Blues, Heart and Soul, and many others were covered by everyone from the Bing Crosby to the Beatles. He appeared in several movies, notably The Best Years of our Lives and To Have and Have Not. He made frequent TV appearances including with Mr Rogers, and an animated appearance in an episode of The Flintstones for which he provided his own voice. For the song "In The Cool of the Evening", he won an Academy Award. Amazing fellow Hoagy.

There exists a radio interview with Hoagy (I believe it’s from the late 50’s our early 60’s. I found it through a search engine. It was 20 years ago. I’ll try to find it.

Lack of Music Appreciation & History in schools, especially in the State of Indiana. Wake Up people & do some research. Libraries are Free.

Oddly, he conceived Stardust as an up-tempo song, and it found its place as a ballad. I'm continually impressed at extremely talented songwriters who come up with great songs, but fail to find the best way of presenting them. My favorite example is Buddy Johnson and _Since I Fell_ for You. It never quite worked until the Harptones found the real melody and Lenny Welch embellished it. My other favorite example is Harry Warren and _At Last_. Warren wrote the song without a single blue note. Then along came Etta James, and the song suddenly popped!

He's a forgotten or underrated contributer to the American songbook.

Is it Roberta Sherwood he’s trying to recall? Wikipedia says “her only charting hit was "Lazy River", which hit #57 on the Hot 100 in 1956.”

I'm pretty sure that Stuart Gorrell is a second cousin to me. He wrote the lyrics and I wish that he was mentioned in this video.

Got to disagree with Hoagy - I prefer his slow tempo version of 'Lazy River'
