Theres definitely been a time when I just got frustrated practicing and accidentally played two flawless bars of Ligeti. Im quite proud of myself for that.
I remember the first time I listened to this I absolutely hated it as I was just dipping my toes into the avant-garde aesthetic. Now that I can't actually somewhat understand what's going on, I absolutely love it. And I must say that Ms. Kopatchinskaja is the greatest interpreter of avant-garde music I've ever heard. She's amazing.
I think it’s a long time that I was so moved by a ‚classical music‘ performance! It even comes across on the screen of my mobile. Wonderful , thank you…
Kopatchinskaja é maravilhosa. Ligeti, Bartók, Piazzolla, Ravel, Beethoven. Tudo que essa mulher toca é cheio de personalidade com incomparável técnica e conhecimento artístico. Ela não para no romantismo tardio!
My current viola teacher played in the orchestra for this with the New World Symphony and says it's probably the most difficult piece he's ever played. Just being in the orchestra for a crazy and Avant-Garde concerto like this even just once is my absolute dream.
Best violinist in 20th and 21th century. Forget Heifetz, Oistrakh, Szeryng, Zukerman, Perlman, Mutter, Zimmermann, Kavakos and Fischer. They were and are all very good violinists but she is the only violin genius in musical history. Bravissima, Patricia!
Honestly I don't know how anyone could enjoy playing or listen to this. Each to their own and I respect others' tastes but I have a hard time believing the majority of people truly enjoy this and are not just trying to look intellectual.
llary This is a cadenza, it cannot be understood without the concerto, because its full of quotes, also the sung part is a quote. Until end of march you can still get a month of free admission the Berlin Philharmonic Digital Concert Hall with the Code BERLINPHIL. With this you could watch the whole concerto and also Kopatchinskaja playing concertos by Eötvös and by Schönberg as well as Schönberg's "Pierrot lunaire". Kopatchinskaja has made an acclaimed recording of the Ligeti for NAIVE, which won the »ECHO Klassik«, the »Gramophone Classical Music Award«, the »Gramophone Record Of The Year Award« 2013, the »International Classical Music Award 2014« and was nominated for a Grammy.
I enjoy it because it’s funny. I just get a kick out of it, not because I’m trying to sound intellectual. This is what I love about Ligeti compared to other avant garde composers. He doesn’t take his shit seriously, and his music offers a sense of charm and humor. I don’t feel bad for laughing at his music, because I know that’s what he intended.
Daniel Dancer ligeti let musicians to write their own final cadenza......so kopatchinskaja composed it her self........this known as the best cadenza of logeti
Such a perfect example of Organized Chaos. The music sounds crazy and, at the same time, just right. This was such an interesting piece
You don't have to be crazy to play the violin solo, but it certainly helps.
MAD TRUTH XD
🤣
She is super brilliant. The music sounds crazy, but not out of tune at all. That was heavenly :)
Theres definitely been a time when I just got frustrated practicing and accidentally played two flawless bars of Ligeti.

What do u understand there? It isnt even a music. It sounds so ugly and jingy.
One of the most incredible things I've seen in a while. Commitment supreme. Loveeeeee it!
The score for this piece probably looks like an abstract painting. Love it!
Freshest and most innovative musician to hit classical music in years. She was made for Ligeti.
There's more genius than insanity. Kopatchinskaja is well suited.
I could not agree with you more. She is a musical genius with so much charisma .

Now I know that Ligeti was able to summon Satan whenever he wanted to
All he needed was the help of a Moldovan violinist

@@the1831 he is referencing Ligeti (the composer) who is a man
Wonderful and crazy Ligeti music! And she executes it perfectly.
Does anybody else hear parts from Pärt’s “Fratres” and Ravel’s “Tzigane” in here?
Indeed!
now that I saw your comment, yes
YES! And Sibelius's violin concerto!! First movement at 1:58
Yeah, this cadenza was actually written by the violinist, so it's full of quotes from other pieces. Really cool nonetheless!
and also ysaye no 3 at 1:13
That is how you play the cadenza :D
Never heard this piece before and seeing it's Ligeti, I expected something wild.
I was not prepared.

Amazing cadenza. Bravo to all!

I mean, all of it is hard, but people in the comments are just saying that overall, the piece is chaos.
@@Vwill26 that is what ligeti is all about.

its called up bow staccato
search for "hora staccato" played by Heifetz. it's the culmination of the technique.
It was quite crunchy to my taste but yell maybe on purpose
