Dropped a transfer case from a half ton Chevy on my foot once the steel toe was destroyed but the worst that happened to me was it smashed my big toe and I lost the toenail. Other than that I was lucky but steel toes can save body parts.
For those who can't think of anything equivalent to two and a half pounds, dropping a big bottle of soap onto your toe from the shower shelf is pretty close.

Fun fact. Steel toes don't exist to protect your toes from damage, they actually exist for when heavy enough pressure is applied the steel plate cuts your toes off cleanly. This is so they can surgically reattached easier.

I've heard that steel toes are dangerous because the metal could bend and the backend of the steel toe can slice off your toes and since it would create a casing that blocks access to your toes, your chance of getting them stitched back on are low. I would like to see Tyler attempt to recreate this by putting a fruit in a shoe or something and seeing if its possible to bend the back end of a steel toe to act as a knife thing. Also, shooting that crossbow and seeing debris fly directly at Tylers face was really worrying, and I hope he wears safety goggles in the future when shooting hard objects especially, and I'm not normally the safety obsessed type. Don't want him getting blinded by an arrowhead getting richocheted.

I can't say they're indestructible, but I can say I've invented a drop proof shot glass. I've done some tests with a couple of guns. It reflected a 22 round without damage. A 223, just lodged into the side, no cracks or breaks. We poured in fireball whiskey and there was no leaks. I created them to be party proof, but my tests are to see what they can withstand. If you're interested, you've got more tools and possibly resources than I do. But I can say they survived a 3 story drop test. The one I dropped, yeah it got dinged up some, just a few scratches. But still 100% drink ability.
This is cool, but as a variable, you should test it against other safety shoes (boot with steel toe, boot with composite toe, etc), and do an actual failure test, where you push each to the point of failure and see which takes the most abuse to fail

When I pulled the shoes out, the toes were bent up pointing towards my knees from being bent for a long time in shipping. I used them while working 12 hr days 6 days a week for 1 month before the toe cap had shown through the severely damaged fabric. Almost 2 months after wearing them the toes began to look normal and flat. however the soles on the bottom were also flat and beginning to wear through on the pinky toe side and heel. the steel toe cap ended up coming loose and was floating around inside my shoe less than 3 months into wearing them. 4 months I changed jobs and retired these shoes. they still are wearable, but the entire left shoe toe area is exposed to the outside as well as my heel on both shoes. not sure how you can have steel toe but it isnt connected to anything
I had a pair of these and the webbed fabric on the steel toe started to rub thin and open up. But worst of all the rubber lace holes broke and the stretch lases both snapped within the first week and I found myself switching back to other steel toes real quick.

Here's the thing when you are pushing the nail into the shoe. You are leaning your weight on the shoe, plus you are pushing on the shoe.
Which means alot of pressure, probably more pressure than you stepping on it
