Wednesday with all baby raccoons and darn mosquitoes

- I am a retired RCMP Officer living in a rural setting in Nova Scotia, Canada. I spend my time enjoying nature and feeding my furry friends, the raccoons. I also feed the deer in the winter months and many varieties of birds. I have two rescue cats named Connor and Charlotte.

Lilly, Scotland is 2nd on my list! Is it beautiful there? Yes, I understand about leaving your kitties. I would miss my pups so much I wouldn't enjoy my trip. Plus I don't trust anyone to care for them.

Problem is, that is all the mummies are teaching them! They do not teach them how to and where to get real raccoon food!

But unfortunately in a large number of areas human garbage has become the Racoons main source of food, thanks to Over Developing our wild areas.
So these people are at least Feeding them a pretty good food, and a much better source of food that garbage, with all kinds of broken glass, cigarette butts, ashes, stuff swept off the floor, hair balls, Grease, that these poor coons would have to dig through to get a tiny amount of food for the entire family.
Not to mention all the crap people do to Coons who are raiding their garbage cans! 😢
These Coons are clearly really healthy and well fed too, compared to the ones who mainly eat Garbage from the cans.
They have supplies clean water to wash the food in and plenty of Dogs to eat.
This group has a better chance of surviving and being health because of the Kindness of strangers.

Our streams, rivers and lakes that we have built our cities up around are full of garbage and very often effluent from Factories and Nuclear Power Plants. These are where the Racoons would be looking for food!
Plus just good old garbage we pitch in our waterways like it does not matter, old cars, fridges, washing machines and dryers, old tires, bottles that break and a tonne of toxic crap that poison the waters!
So even if the crayfish and aquatic creatures survived they are toxic to eat!
Anyway in a perfect World we wouldn't have ruined the wildlife habitats for millions of species around the World!
So these folks are actually helping keep this population of Raccoons Healthy and probably out of everyone's garbage?!
So my hat goes off to this couple who make a real effort to feed these Coons a good meal with fresh CLEAN water!

It's amazing how respectful they are when you first feed them how they don't steal the hotdogs from the tupperware. They wait 'till you hand them one 😄
They sneak one out of the Tupperware once in awhile if Angie gets real busy passing them out. 😂

I love how patient she is with the little ones who are scared it always takes a little while but once they trust you they will do it forever!! such sweet babies.

About those mosquitos , we’ve had luck using OFF wipes packaged in individual packets. You can wipe it on the bare skin areas. They really work!

I love how he looks after each one. I feed between one or two (sometimes a mom and kits), always changing, that come by and eat the cat food I put out...I try and keep the food behind the bushes as I think my neighbors will have me tarred/feathered and thrown out of town.

Angie, its so adorable that you have names for the racoons and youre able to recognize them. Jim, if you rub a small amount of Vicks vapor rub on your arms, legs before you step outdoors that will help keep mosquito's away. It works great for me here in Florida

But the raccoon’s will run off if they smell it.
When I lived in Maui, several of the locals recommended taking vitamin b to ward off the mosquitoes. I was skeptical, but it actually works. It takes a few weeks before it starts working.

@@lillyanderson3623 yes vitamin b is working for me it’s been about 6 weeks that I have been taking it and seems to be working against mosquitoes here in Illinois, does anyone know if it works for the no see ums? The biting midges love me in Florida and I am hoping when I go back to FL the vitamin B will save me, does any one know?
