    Not only is Simon the greatest drummer of our time, but he is also the most amazing Fussion Jazz/Rock composer of our time!!!! His melodies and grooves are just as rich as his playing. The music is "stand alone" incredable, can't say it sounds like some other artist

    I don't think most ppl have any idea how huge Simon's impact on modern drumming is. He has been one of THE top and most respected drummers on the planet for over 30 years now - for good reason. I love weckl, parcaro, vinnie, etc, BUT I guarantee YOU, none of them could get the sound and play these tracks the way Simon is doing it here.

  • @steve9621

    I Concur with the appreciative comments here. The bassist, Earnest Tibbs, from Simon’s Protocol works said aptly that Simon launches each tune as a “ helicopter “ in his drumming.
    Then whilst hovering above, the other band members are released to soar like gliders into creative improvisation one by one or ( together) landing each tune with beautiful execution.

    I don´t like to "rate" drummers or any other musician. I am a huge Porcaro fan, as a Phillips fan. But at this time i like Simon the most. I´ve seen him live, right in front of the drumset, and he is just amazing. Incredibly tight , smooth and pecise. Just amazing.

    When I was first taught to play drums... back in the day, my teachers were stuck on the "heel down" method on the bass drum. I always thought that was bogus, because I just didn't have the same amount of control. Turns out nearly EVERY drummer I admire, Phillips, Weckls, Peart, etc., plays "heel up". Watching these UA-cam videos has reinforced that!

    Although Dave weckl is more like a technique freak, I personally think Simon's composition is more beautiful cuz he seems more melody oriented do his songs are much more enjoyable.
    Although Dave Weckl fist album master plan killed it too

    • @johncarry5989
      @johncarry5989 3 роки тому

      I agree. Masterplan is awesome. Dave's other albums just were nowhere near as good unfortunately. And I also agree that on the whole Simon's music is more enjoyable to listen to because as you say the music is more medolic and each part is is written more for the song rather than more of a virtuoso performance. Because I feel Dave wants to show off more the songs end up suffering a little because of it.

  • @MrCherryJuice
    @MrCherryJuice 11 років тому

    True! Dave Weckl is a masterful technician. Though Simon isn't lacking in that department. The huge difference between is that Simon gets the gigs. The Who. Jack Bruce. Jeff Beck. Pete Townshend. Toto... So while Weckl may be a technique perfectionist and sensational player, he has simply gone one way, Simon another. I saw Weckl at the Buddy Rich even in London last year; he stole the show from an all-star line-up of players - Paice, Baker, Harrison etc. But Simon rocks out and is exciting!
