I remember a few times hearing this song in a Disney commercials, I was 11 when this song came out. I was a figure skater for many years, dreaming of becoming an Olympic figure skater like my friends, Jeremy Ten and Kevin Reynolds, who skated alongside the number one Patrick Chan in the Team Canada competitions. At the end of 2013 my coach left, and I never understood why the head coach asked me to either quit or move to a different club, I felt that I was beyond ready for the next level and would’ve been guaranteed a new coach, but I was never moved forwards. I had dedicated over half of my life to ballet, with figure skating as the main sport. It was the worst time of my life. I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up anymore, and I gave up. My mom tried putting me in circus school for a few weeks, which I found I liked and was somewhat easy thanks to my experience, but she didn’t stick with it and put me in mixed martial arts with my siblings. For almost six years now, I’ve been doing MMA, and two years I’ve been an army cadet. As a figure skater, I did swimming courses over the summers. I had to give that up when I had appendicitis when I was 14, which broke me emotionally again because I was ahead in all the lifeguarding courses, and would’ve become a lifeguard on time no problem.
To this day I still have difficulty figuring out what I want to do with my life, and I’m not sure I’ll discover it soon, but this song brings back so many memories, all those moments I fell yet picked myself up regardless. I never put more effort into anything than my ice dance. I was just a part of my daily routine. I really miss it. It was such a huge part of my life. Winter break meant practice at 5am for two weeks. Spring break meant practice at 5am for two weeks. Competitions meant missing school and even taking planes if it was far enough. I miss my idols, whom I literally skated with and called my friends.
This song brings back the motivation that coursed through my body when this song was played during practices on ice. I’m just not on the rink anymore.
I’m sorry for going on such a long rant, it’s just that, my whole life felt like it turned upside down when I was told I couldn’t continue. My dream of becoming an Olympian was crushed. I’m 18 years old today and I’m scared to try new things, and even if I did get back into figure skating along with ballet as extra, it would be too late for me to become an Olympian, wouldn’t it?
Thank you for reading this far. I truly hope that your dreams come true, even though mine couldn’t.
Man this is so sad. I can just advise you to not be afraid of trying new things, you will find your way and find out what you really want to do, you've still got time. But don't be scared of anything, the only thing you need now is determination

jaco jds I know that this is something that just about anyone could’ve said, but it made me tear up. Hearing from a stranger that there will be hope is genuinely the kindest thing that can happen. Thank you for telling me not to be scared. My friends and family always told me that I should just put myself out there, try my best and push through, but they never fully explained that there wasn’t a reason to be afraid. I am afraid, and nobody else really picked up on that.

BrYcE SiLvA Thank you for such encouragement. Sometimes it can be difficult not to fear what’s to come next because I’m worried that I won’t be prepared for it. I know that I need to face the unknown, and I am somewhat capable of it, but ever since I quit figure skating, I’ve been so afraid of the spotlight. I attempted a talent show in seventh grade and embarrassed myself in front of my whole school... I took drama class in tenth grade and thought, “maybe it isn’t so bad after all.” But I was in acting 12 and dropped out after a week because I was just too afraid to be up on stage alone, despite that being all I did as a young child. I’m so afraid of the stage now, I freeze up. I’m not as confident in acting as I was in figure skating. But I’ll keep trying. It just needs to be something I’m fully confident in.

I can try, at the least. It’ll take some time, but I mean, it took me 6 years to get as far as I was before, maybe I can do it again.
