My parents don't have enough money to pay our living. When I told people around me I wanna be a doctor, they make fun of me. They said I NEVER able to do that because my family couldn't afford that. They said my dream is the burden of my family.
So I started study so hard. And finally I got a full scholarship in meds. But my parents cannot pay my living bills. So I have to work & study at the same time. This year is my last year in meds. Somehow, this song makes me emotional.

I know most people think of this song as a song about poverty and trying to overcome it but for me this song reminds me to keep fighting. I am half deaf and when I was younger nobody really believed I could be anything other than dumb. I had teachers tell me that I would never learn to read, I was excluded for being unteachable and I wasn’t allowed to use my hearing aids. One teacher even used to purposely break them but I never wanted them to be right so I worked twice as hard than everyone in my class and I did well in school. This song always reminds me that I have come so far and to not let others break me as I have fought through things that would have made most people give up. If anybody is struggling in any situation they are in you do have the strength to fight it and it might take years before you win but if you persevere you will win

Today, April 14, 2023, Mark learned to fly higher than he already did. Mark died today and I'm binge watching the band's videos. I'm praying for his family (wife and kids), Danny and Glen. I sure hope I get tickets to hear him sing again in the afterlife 💙

My parents pretended to be like this when we were kids. I never even realized we were actually homeless at one point in our life. And when I grew up and know the truth, things finally makes sense why we did some things we did. It makes me appreciate my parents for how hard they tried to give us the childhood other kids get even though they could barely eat themselves. Right now, I'm a subspecialist doctor, my brothers became an engineer, a trading businessman, and a gaming animator. With the excess of our salary, we bought them a comfortable house and their dream car. Something they were never able to buy when they were younger. They're our gifts for them because none of us would be where we are without their hard sacrifice. I'm crying while watching this because it hits home so bad. Makes me so emotional.

my dad is a senior architect in a big company and his sister is a professor in computer engineering Phd. They were also struggling so much back when they were kids. Now they give their kids everything who are us. Sometimes, I feel like I am tooo fortunate and I feel like I may never accomplish what they had accomplished. I feel like I may never pay dad back as much as he provided for me. I hope I can in the future.

I used to listen to it a lot because it was part of my childhood. when I was little I just enjoyed it without looking at the meaning of the lyrics. now I'm in my twenties, I listened again to songs that accompanied my childhood and this one really hit different.

Also my friend wr are in the South African national defence force he died last year we got contact he got shot in the stomach i couldnt stop the bleeding and is kia during the time of covid in the Democratic Republic of Congo i feel guilty for his death beacause i couldnt keep him alive i dont ask sympathy but just ask to also include soldiers to honor the memories of all fighting men and women
