I don't understand all the hate this game received, it's a fantastic game at heart! People mainly see the bad when it's compared to it's previous titles rather than the actual game itself.
There’s also the fact that we’ve had other recent Mario RPG releases on the switch, so maybe people are trying to finish those before picking this game up.
Yeah im only 18 and still looking for my first job so im having to wait until Christmas for my copy of the game so im avoiding yt lets plays and any info about the story like the plague so i dont get spoiled.
I might buy this game if I get the Christmas money for it or as a gift but otherwise I'm saving up for the Switch successor so buying games isn't really something I'll do for a while....
Same. It’s great and it might be my most favorite Mario and Luigi game, just slightly behind bowsers story on ds. I’m gonna 100% it too, I keep on top of the side quests like crazy lol since they could go away and make it impossible to 100%
@@danielsimpson2023 I make sure they’re completely done and no more sneakily pop up before heading to a new island. I also try and 100% an island before heading to the next too, which is mostly possible unless there’s a path not available due to not having learned a bros move yet. There’s these vent looking things that glow in certain islands and ones on rumbla island too, I don’t know how to get into it yet but once I do I’ll be able to complete the island
I would like to share that IGN giving it a 5 totally turned me off to this game. I just picked it up, only 10 minutes in but this game has a ton of character and charm right out the gate. If you’re on the fence just try it for yourself. This is the type of game you need to make your own conclusion on.
The guy who put up that score on IGN will forever be hated if he’s the reason Mario & Luigi never come back 😭💀 if that’s the case, I hope he gets fired.
When I got my hands-on this game, it was on my final football night. My parents were so kind to buy it as if I earned it for my last playoff i'm glad I got to play the game because it's awesome 😊
Why do people even still listen to IGN, majority of their reviews are bias af and abysmal, they are the last reviewers to listen to. Most UA-camrs are way more trustworthy.
Yeah, most of IGN don't even use objective game quality to judge games instead using "political correctness" to rate them. It over glorifies Concord, TLOU2, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League while shits on great master pieces like Brothership and Explorers of the Sky.
its not that they are listening to ign they see too many people playing the game having issues with luigi getting stuck, load times between battles being long, the story lacking, the music not as memorable 60k sales is about right even with all the praise from the trend culture that sp1tes ign review brothership is a 6.5/10 game
ign isn't credible waaah sales are a third of the success that is bowsers inside story in the year 2024 where population alone should skyrocket sales yet....
I’m not too worried personally. I mean, if the game sold almost 70k in its first week, and the highest selling game in the series sold 200k, that’s really fast, especially when we consider that it’s just in Japan. Just wait till Christmas and see those copies go up.
thats a third of the success and we live in a time where population should scale the sales higher than bowsers inside story if the game is supposedly 9/10 I know this game is at least 6.5/10 ign is too dramatic and trend culture couldn't break the mold of sales
@@TomastheHorrorfan Also, we’re not counting the digital sales that average around 50 to 60 % of sells for Nintendo games these days. So it’s probably anywhere between 140-160k after the first week.
guys just accept what it is the story is nonexistent the music is m1d 60k sales confirms 7/10 be happy ign was wrong but you guys didn't need to go this far
The sales numbers may seem misleading at first, but in reality, the IP in question has seen about a 50% increase in sales in Japan. The part that's often overlooked is the current landscape of how games are sold. While Nintendo is still somewhat bucking the overall trend, they are, like most companies, seeing a shift towards digital sales over physical copies. They may not have reached the 90/10 digital-to-physical sales ratio seen by other companies, but it's important to recognize that you're comparing total sales of older titles in the franchise with only partial sales for newer ones. This shift to digital sales makes direct comparisons less accurate.
This is so sad.😔 Mario & Luigi games are my favorite Mario games. I can't even explain how excited I was when Brothership got announced! I was really hoping Brothership would sell well so the series could continue.
Advertise the mario and luigi game to anyone otherwise Nintendo might not make another mario and luigi games ever again due to bias reviews and people emulating it.
I think this reason the game isn't sold very well in Japan is because Dragon Quest 3 2D-HD Remake is coming out an week after Brothership and considering how big Dragon Quest is in Japan, they're gonna focus on getting that than Brothership.
no its because brothership doesnt have a good story bowsers inside story had a story the title literally gave a giant hint that you could play as bowser
@@crowmaster9652 How do you know it doesn't have a good story before you buy it and play it? This's still first week, most people haven’t beaten the game yet. (It took me 46 hours to finish it, with is long if people only play the game 2 to 3 hours per day.) I believe Dragon Quest 3 2D-HD Remake is the bagger factor in Japan. Plus, we've got 3 RPG games in within a year, and I think people who weren't fans from the old series are starting to get bored.
@@1084dreamer The main villain is a watered down nightmare wizard from kirby but with the attitude of shadow the hedgehog the main villain isn't some bowser transformation (it was great in bowsers inside story it got repetitive real fast). they don't need to beat the game at this point if the selling point is not good enough then it won't drive motivation for sales. Dragon quest will easily outshine mario and luigi in sales(even with what the dragon quest developers they are forced to do because of the gaming industry 4gend4)
I'm going to blame IGN for this. Going to blame them if sales aren't good. They might screw up the series with their bad review. They better not screw the series up. The series had been gone for years now.
I've been loving Mario & Luigi: Brothership since I started playing it the day it came out. The game has a lot of detail and charm with its world and characters that make it unique and that feels overlooked. I'm already at level 25 for Mario and level 24 for Luigi and I can't wait to continue playing to see how the story unfolds along with other characters stories in the game. This is an outstanding game that deserves a lot more attention especially for players who are new to the Mario & Luigi series.
its not ign alone you guys just overestimated that one review theres no story (at least thats worth investing into) the music is ai generated even with trend culture you guys can't even break sales 60k is roughly the same as paperjam
First impressions can make or break a game sometimes and unfortunately, after playing through Brothership I can see why people would be turned off. It starts off agonizingly slow. It gets better obviously but people wouldn't know that unless they decided to stick to it and Brothership doesn't really give them a reason to do so.
I think i know another reason why it didn't sell so much, it's November, it's pretty close to Christmas, a time where kids get presents, and kids think "why would I get this now when I get it on Christmas for free" children really put an impact on the gaming world, especially during Christmas
Forget what Ign says . Their opinions don't matter. . Time will tell by how well it sells . Give it till January... As for me.. I'm loving the animation and music. Alot. Gameplay is smooth.
I don't think IGN had any significant influence on the sales numbers. The main issues are that too many Mario RPGs were released in quick succession, the game has numerous flaws that fans tend to overlook, and the Mario & Luigi series has always been more of a niche franchise.
The negativity compounds, people complain about selecting with a, then they notice other minor things like Luigi in the overworld, pacing and structure, and then they’ve been swayed to disliking the game within the first 2 hours. Most of these are all non-issues, you get used to A; Luigi was like this in prior games, following directly behind Mario; the pace is great as every area feels unique, and fresh which lends itself to the games’ structure. It leads directly to a confirmation bias - oh, I’m not enjoying this, neither is ‘everyone else’ so my opinion is justified and the game sucks…. The game is awesome, just give it a chance.
exactly, I'm literally seeing streamers super happy and enjoying the game just cause they didn't jump in thinking negatively while the few that jumped in thinking this game was a 5 out of 10 just keep on complaining and getting negative over any small nitpick they can find and it's such a sad way to play a game. And the game has a slow start too which makes those who start negative just playing the first 2 hours and thinking the entire game is like that when they haven't even reached the first bros move or at least seeing the actual story begin (which is just stupid all games have progression and especially Mario and Luigi games always started slowly)
@@nintendofan5978 but like even comparing it to the older games, I don't get what's wrong with it? Luigi working different isn't bad, just a different approach to make use of his new gimmick. I get the B button as it was weird for me aswell but you just get used to it. Besides the new Luigi I don't get what's worse from the previous games tho lol. In fact I even think this is the best combat the series has gotten
The thing being is, these are only physical sales and only Japan. 10 years ago sales weren't neccessarily as much digital as today. So in the end, the game could be selling similar to previous ones including those...
I also feel like that most people are afraid of criticizing the flaws of this game because this represents a series that was very valuable for us and they're scared of killing the game by pointing out the obvious flaws that it has. I'm a big fan of M&L series. I played all games from Superstar saga to BiS and beat some of them more than once and I was very excited about this game when I saw the gameplay. But just after seeing a few hours of gameplay you can see the serious flaws it has and how much different this game is compared to what the series was with Superstar saga and BiS. The fact that most people are afraid of pointing out the glaring flaws this game has is one of the main reason why this game is failing, people are too scared to give honest feedback to Nintendo to the point that they're incapable of fixing the big flaws they have since they don't even know what they're doing wrong.
I'm surprised people are still trusting IGN after memes like the Ruby and Sapphire "too much water" incident. I'd personally rate the game a 7 or 8. It's definitely not one of the absolute best RPGs out there and has some noticeable issues that have been bugging me (Mostly in regards to some padding and tedium caused by various design choices like aggressive amounts of backtracking) but it sure as heck is above average and it's definitely not the worst M&L game.
Super Mario RPG Remake: 301,334 (November 2023) Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Remake: 115,649 (May 2024) Mario and Luigi: Brothership: 63,441 (November 2024) I don't think timing of the Switch's life cycle had anything to do with it. TTYD was released this year and it topped 100,000. Maybe it is a bit of Mario RPG burn out? Maybe IGN played a role in it? I was very surprised by these numbers as well. I pre-ordered M&L and I'm about 30 hours in. I'm enjoying it a lot. It's not perfect, but in no world is it a 5/10. It's still very fun. It does hurt to see the lack of sales in Japan. I hope it's better in NA. As a die hard SMRPG fan, I am happy it was the best seller of the three, and I really hope that pushes Nintendo to make a full sequel for it. But I want all three franchises to have success. I will never root against any of them.
I mean, I'm not worried the game hasn't been out that long. Calm down, everyone, and I'm 6 hours in, and from what I have played so far, im loving the game
Mario & Luigi hasn’t had a new, original game in 9 years, and this is the first one for a home console, and the first one made by a new developer, Acquire, which only had experience developing RPGs through Octopath Traveler, maybe they’re trying to find what works and what doesn’t, and maybe the next one will be better.
Dude. I'm going to be dissapointed if the reason why it sells so low, just because of that IGN giving it 5/10, making people think it's not worth it. GOD DAMNIT IGN, WHY MUST YOU BE LIKE THAT
I hope the game still get the positive feedback it deserves, otherwise it might be time for us to accept that, Mario and Luigi isn't good anymore, and I don't like to accept that, I love this series and when Brothership was revealed, I was SCREAMING to the top of my lungs, I was that excited! So please, don't let this game be shown as a failure, keep supporting this game with all you can, there is still time!!!
I am personally a big fan of the game so much so that I completed it in just 3 days and to be honest I don't really understand why it has been doing so poorly. Granted, there are some issues, one in particular VERY BIG. For instance, not being able to control Luigi's movements makes some parts of the game a bit janky; combining certain specific pins together makes you pretty much invincible in battle, making the game a bit "too easy" for a Mario & Luigi game; but the worst thing in my opinion, which has really let me off, is that once you complete the game, you're not allowed to play it again after. Basically you would have to restart a new file FROM 0!!! WHICH IS CRAZY! In every single other Mario & Luigi game after you complete the final boss if you tried booting up your save file it would put you right before the final bossfight and you could continue playing normally. BUT NOT THIS TIME! THE GAME WILL PUT YOU RIGHT AFTER THE LAST BOSSFIGHT AND WONT EVEN ALLOW YOU TO EXPLORE THE OTHER ISLANDS, IT LITERALLY TELLS YOU "YOU MUST COMPLETE THE JOURNEY". It's unbelievable and i'm speechless, why did they decide to do this? Why are there no post game side-quests? They could have done so much more for this already good game.... but this thing alone in my opinion ruined it by a landslide. Let me know your opinion!
Regardless of the controversy, I'm enjoying my time to the fullest with this game, and I'm already in the middle of my 2nd playthrough with it as well.
theres no controversy the game is 6.5/10 because no solid story no solid music and load times take way too long on a future console where as bowsers inside story has load times very short great music great story you are better playing bowsers inside story on the ds
@@crowmaster9652piracy enjoyer? You tell us to play BIS on ds, yet… how? Nintendo 3ds online servers are down, meaning we can’t play the remake, let alone the original. The only way is A. Modding a ds or B. Pirating the game.
Guys, can we just not trust review sites so blindly and just with own choices. They did gave Sticker Star a good review despite the actually being bland as heck.
@@newtfigton8795like them running out of my money in an interview for paper jam they said the reason they couldnt put a big story and original characters because they didnt have much money so that was a sign that they would go bankrupt.
All the sudden IGN does a crappy review & then people eat it up & decide to not buy the game! I feel so ANNOYED by this. Especially since we need this game to sell well so that Mario & Luigi can FINALLY come back for good!
I hate how much controversy their is surrounding all of these games nintendo is being a great company right now and making so many great games people want like ttyd mario rpg brothership showtime prime 4 and echoes of wisdom people always need something to complain about
Guys just wait for Christmas it will go through the roof by then If it's not selling right now it's most likely because people are saving it for Christmas
@@FluppietheRockruffFan no its when people stray just to spite one review that they need to confirm to themselves that this game is perfection as a means to contradict the review I think the game can speak for itself and it has in terms of sales culture trend in this case doesn't connect with the game's overall rating which is 6.5/10 - 7/10
@@crowmaster9652 I totally agree. I think the biggest problem isn’t the IGN review but the 50% of people that give it a 10/10 without having even played it and only basing it off of UA-cam videos. I want more Mario and Luigi games to be made just like the rest of these people and personally really enjoy the game, but lying to yourself about the quality of the game won’t make more games come out. If you really want the Mario and Luigi franchise to come back then buy the game and form your own opinion. I also think Nintendo themselves blundered since they didn’t make a demo, so the only way to form your own early opinion of the game is by paying 60 dollars.
Note about the people hating on the game and calling people who like the game ‘fanboys’: Just ignore them, they’re either trolls or just plain stupid (probably trolls)
I went it expecting it to be a lackluster Mario & Luigi a lá Paper Jam, but so far it's shaping up to be very solid. It's definitely no Bowser's Inside Story, and going forward I want to expect more Mario & Luigi games more in line with BIS, but it's an incredibly solid M&L game and definitely more than entertaining enough for the average joe, who should give the game a try.
my #1 issue with the game is 100% the performance I notice a lot of very drastic drops in the most tame of areas but honestly besides the pacing at the start of the game the game has been pretty good id definitely give it a 7/10 with where im at in the game right now lots of good and significant bads
@@paulgilbert5278 new mario party, new dragon quest, new zelda, sonic x shadown generations, and stray for the sony fans and if they want a really good mario and luigi rpg they will just play bowsers inside story non remix
I would rather they keep the old pixel art style. Why are they trying to make everything 3D and stuff? I would dislike that, they should just port the middle three games onto switch in a bundle. Keep the pixel art style, it brings so much charm.
Mario & Luigi Brothership SUCKS. I had to borrow the game from my brother, and it's really bad. I swear nintendo fan boys have a habit of defending anything that's crappy from nintendo. That's why I gave up being a Nintendo fan ages ago.
What Sucks about it? I decided to 100% the game and I really enjoyed it, - Great and charming Characters, - Funny dialogue, - Combat was Great prob the best combat in any of the games. That's not to say the game doesn't have any flaws, - The story was a little meh - The performance could dip a bit during moments in the game where it would stress the console. So I can understand if there is some moments that sucked, but in general I think its a tad harsh to say the game sucks without explaining what makes you think it sucks. to me its its a (8 / 10) game.
what'd you do, borrow it for only a few hours? it's a fine game past the slog and even if the final parts of it drag out longer than needed, overall I had a lot of fun with it. Sorry it "sucks" for you.
I beat the game yesterday and I spent like 50 hours straight each day I play the game after coming back from work. Here my general thoughts: 1- The game story and plot twist is something I never expected this time especially on a Mario and Luigi rpg game. Story wise the game is super fun and I had fun time interacting with characters in general. 2- The controls in this game is made smoother than previous titles wich require more precision to get excellent combo attacks. Controlling the bros in overworld is also made easier and fun to do. However the downside imo is you basically don't control Luigi or switch between them during normal gameplay you gonna main Mario throughout most of the game. Sometimes Luigi ai do dumb things especially in puzzles like he move automatically which sometimes lead to frustrations that you have to do the puzzle all over again cus he moved before you do. Another thing while jumping in certain platform sometimes he fall and when that happens he will call you and Mario automatically will run towards him making you repeat the whole platform again. These two are my main issues with the game they are completely minor issues and it not supposed to affects the game that much 3- Exploration, and oh yeah that is amazing and super cool to explore the whole region. Finding hidden treasure and getting yourself powerful items. I have lot of fun exploring each island fully uncovering every single spot in the game. For me exploration was well made and fun thing to do. 4- Characters design, they are cool and perfectly fit a Mario rpg games. Each main character has their own story and seeing through the past of each character is kinda cool. 5- After beating the game, sadly no extra content after you beat the main story to me that is disappointing imo because I do really like having post game quest or something after beating the main game. 6- Game difficulty, I wish they add difficulty option to choose from. To me I played harder rpg game and honestly this game was extremely easy to the point I went to fight some bosses while I am under level. There is a feature that make the game even more easier which I did not use that much because the game to me was really that easy. And those are all my personal thoughts about this game. I had a blast of fun and I spent around 50 hours to do everything I could do in the game. In my personal thoughts the game experience is not the reason why it did not sell well at launch. It could be because they are other video games nowadays is available and of course Nintendo kept spamming RPG games a lot recently which lead to ppl to feel burnt out. And we are approaching the end of the year so probably ppl are waiting for other games to be on sales. Do I recommend Mario and Luigi brothership? Definitely. However this is my personal thoughts and each person has their own opinion.
4:06 Well they doesnt deserve that title of a powerhouse if they dont even appreciate the effort nintendo gave to brothership just to revive the mario and luigi franchise i have only watched videos of the game and its absolutely amazing
Nintenerds have a habit of defending the crap out of Nintendo even when nintendo makes crappy games. But when SEGA makes a Sonic game, people are quick to bash Sonic 😂😂😂 (glad that isn't the case anymore).
@@blackbankers1883So you defend IGN just because it just so happens to give Sonic x Shadow Generations a 9.5(Finally!)? Bro I loved Sonic X Shadow Gens but you don't need to be this petty, people like you are the reason most gaming communities are toxic

Anything lower than a 9 out of 10 is criminal for this amazing game. It's got the best combat and Bro Attacks yet, and the story is really good thus far.
@@wonderpunch4984yeah, but i'm pretty sure that's with every game. As literally played halfway, but then I got bored. I have a question. Why is it that you Nintendo fanboys always defend anything Nintendo-Related, even when the game is relatively bad???
@blackbankers1883 this might surprise you but, i am in fact not a nintendo fanboy. On the contrary, i barely play Nintendo games except for the mario rpgs It's ok if it's not your cup if tea, you atleast played half of it. but dropping the game after only 2 hours when the game itself is about 35 hours long, it's pretty unreasonable. It's not as bad as paper jam, not as nostalgic as it's prequels and it's music is some of the most mediocre in the entire franchise. But i think it's refreshing in a way and i've slowly taken a liking to it. And for that i get this silly accusation from you? I feel like you just want to start a pointless argument.
I am 24 hours in the game i just entered the 4th sea did every side quest until now and did fight a lvl 35 boss while being lvl 27 now 29 i love this game
Personally I don’t think people take critical reviews seriously anymore, tv, movie, game, all these critic reviewers have proven time and time again that they are untrustworthy and most of the time completely wrong. IMO it could be fatigue, could be the fact that it has been 10 years between this and the last game that the fans of the old games have “grown out of it”, could be the switches lifespan coming to an end who knows 🤷🏼♂️ but please don’t let this series die!!! I love this series to much
I'll tell you what it is. It didn't sell well in japan yet cause of Dragon quest and that game has a huge advantage over this one. it's also the fact that this is the 3rd mario rpg in a year, switch is getting pretty old, and it's autumn season
There are several reasons for the failure. We’ve had 3 RPGs released in a relatively short period of time, the switch is nearing its final years, and we’ve already had a Mario game released recently, Mario Party Jamboree. I get ones an RPG, the other ones a party game, but that could be affecting it still.
Yeah no I refuse to believe this game is flopping in any way. It's not. The Japanese retail charts and all of the UA-camrs just eating it up AND the fact that many people are most likely holding out for the holidays? Yeah nah. In my opinion this is the best Mario RPG (not counting remakes) since Dream Team.
Of course, you're going to refuse. You're a nintendo fanboy. Nintendo fanboys have a habit of blaming everybody else, other than themselves, or nintendo for making poor quality games 😂😂😂 just accept the fact that Mario and luigi Brothership is a trash game and it will remain trash. 😂😂
Nintendo fanboys will always defend anything and everything. Even when nintendo makes trash games at high price. This is why I gave up on Nintendo. 🙄🙄🙄
I know some friends that would have loved a Mario & Luigi game on Switch in like 2017, 18, 19, or even 20. But by now most of them moved on and I honestly don't know a single person besides me that bought that game😢
I think it's the timing, I mean seriously, this trend of releasing tons of new games in October and November really needs to stop, we all know why they do this, they want their games available in time for Christmas, but then we are just overwhelmed with so many games that we just can't buy them all, at least not in that short amount of time
stop blaming ign. if you know you dont agree with their reviews, ignore them. games dont inherantly have a score for how good they are. its an opinion. stop crying over review scores and play what you like. instant blocked channel because I dont wanna hear babies cry over games.
It's not just that IGN scored it badly, it's that they raked it across the coals in their review. They had almost nothing good to say about, and what bad they had to say about it was damning. They complained about the gameplay, the look, the story, everything. I saw Arlo, someone looking so forward to this game, lament that the game might be a disappointment based on the review. If they can break Arlo, then I imagine a bunch of people who would have bought it gave it a pass based on the IGN review.
I think it’s a mix between the game being good but not great, it being the end of the Switch lifespan, performance issues, and the fact that this is like the THIRD big Mario RPG game in the span of a year. I would love to pick this up, but i’m gonna wait to see if this runs better on Switch 2
It release at the end of Switch life, it's the last release of automn release that had 3 titles in a row with 3 weeks between them (Zelda, Mario Party and this), but for me the big point is that it's the third Mario RPG in a year (SMRPG released in November last year, so it's exactly a year)
you cant make this stuff up we have been waiting for another proper Mario and Luigi, we finally got it and now what. Honestly this game is my top 3 of all Mario and Luigi games its pretty good its not the best imo but its definitely up there and expecting more from an entirely different studio is just unrealistic. I hope this doesnt blow up the chances of another installment of the series but if the series dies here i want to clarify that this is all thanks to the community.
Personally, I love the game so far and just beated the second lighthouse, but, as of now, there isn't something that has striked me. For example, the story is nice, but the villains aren't particularly endearing and the musics are nice background music but it isn't even close to the old games who had absolute BANGERS. The different islands have this problem too, they feel bland. Plus, in my opinion, the game suffers a bit from something the games almost always have these days, holding your hand to much, whiiiiiiich, I am sorry, but luigi logic out of combat is the perfect example. It isn't the fact that he helps, but the fact that a lot of the times when he thinks of something, it is borderline useless and intrusive, in my opinion! Quick sidenote, I just got my second bros attack? Like why did it take so long?😂 So yeah, this is my opinion so far. I don't know how many hours I have because my switch says I've been playing for 8 days.
the story is pretty chill until the 4th sea, when you start the 4th sea it gets REALLY GOOD and keeps on getting better and better. This game has a pacing issue cause the first act is way too long for how little story it has but trust me it gets very good. And btw the end of the 3rd lighthouse and start of the 4th sea is just around the middle of the game, it's a very long game
I bought one physical copy just to support the revival, eventhough I do not own a Switch. (I maybe consider getting a Switch tho soon) It is worrying to see Nintendo treat Mario and Luigi treat like that (last 3 games including Brothership), getting released on the downfall of the respective console.
@@SailBros_204 clearly nintendo didn't think so. but we haven't gotten an entry out of any of these series in years. now all of them came out in one. so it adds up. especially as it's the same audience for each of these series (for the most part)
It's important to remember that this game is essentially reviving a dead franchise. It's not going to have the same ability to get recurring fans to purchase a game like the last ones did. The M&L series is essentially going to have to rebuild it's fanbase from scratch. Taking into account things like the Switch being at the end of its lifecycle and change in developer and composer for the game and it's not surprising that the game didn't sell as great as the older games.
Well, here are my reasons: - it being released on Switch (yeah 2 months make a difference) - Mario and Luigi was always niche (stuff like Mario Party always sells) - the reviews and opinions surely had an impact - 3 RPGs in just a short time Maybe there are more reasons but these are the ones I can think of at the moment. Actually had my fears even when the game was just announced since I knew that the whole 3 RPGs thing isn’t doing any favours but the "bad" Reviews were unexpected. Would’ve been much better on the new console. But I get that switching the platform during dev is very hard and unnecessary. At least one of those three RPGs should’ve been developed just for the new hardware. Imagine the even bigger reaction if PM2 would’ve been a new Gen launch title…
The fact is that IGN was right about a lot of aspects of this game. Even people who enjoyed it are rating it 7/10s. That mixed reception plus the fact that literally everyone is waiting with their fingers crossed for the Switch 2 is like a death knell. Not only just that but Nintendo really didn't put much marketing out there for it, and turn based RPGs don't do well with casual audiences
Nintendo Fans and Nintendo Fanboys, are 2 different things maybe stop being toxic, and being full of ego that SxShG got a high score, this ain't the Console Wars buddy, we've been past that, unless you want other Toxic Nintendo Fans to swarm and hate on you, maybe tone down your bullshit leave the Sonic Community to prevent your toxic nature from spreading, and think before you type.

The game is AWESOME! And it’s amazing how after all this years Nintendo gave another chance to the series, I really hope that the sales get better at Christmas But the guy who think that Luigi shouldn’t make his battle selections with B must be fired
@rayman2902 same. This game doesn’t have the same charm as the first four games. It doesn’t help that they take away the ability to distribute points upon level, now single jump and hammer attacks feel like bros moves lite, Luigi is flat out an npc, some battles with cinematics just doesn’t feel right too me, the Luigi gimmick is lame, and the load times to enter battles take long compared to the previous games having the transition to battles seem seamless
I don’t think it’s IGN that turned people off, I think again it’s the fact people are burnt out on Mario RPGs. Not to mention dragon quest is a big thing in Japan so people over there are locked in more to dragon quest than Mario and Luigi Brothership. But in all honesty I’m glad we got a new game and thank god it’s better than paper jam. For a while I was salty paper jam was the last Mario and Luigi game but now if brothership turns out to be the final one because it didn’t sale well, then I’m glad brothership is the last one we cap it off on. But no I have confidence we will still get more Mario and Luigi games because, it’s Mario.
Problem is, young children don’t like RPGs. RPGs take patience.. TEENS like RPGs. And the last thing teens want, is to be treated like they are younger. You’d think Nintendo would have learned this by now…
I'm only at the start of the game and I already think the game is a 7,5 or 8, this is a good game I never thought this series will come back and I'm very happy. Hearing IGN give a 5 make me wanna go to there building and give a slap to every people that think it's a good rating.
If I didn't know any better I'd think people WANT this series to fail. Like what the heck man, this is the one chance its got and people are getting hung up on stupid stuff like Luigi occasionally getting stuck on things! Its complete BULLCRAP! Its like these people have never played a video game before. If it doesn't give them INSTANT GRATIFICATION every two seconds its apparently bad? :/
Kinda. These people thought it's gonna be like the ds/gba ones. Complete bullcrap that peak will never be reached again. The game excels in other points though and it's still a pretty good game, the big thing that brings it down is the shitty performance but you can blame the hardware for that one not the game
@@nintendofan5978 In this case no, it's not the hardwares fault. This game's issue is having weird frame-pacing, that makes it look choppier than it actually is. Which is more of an engine/programming problem, throwing more power at it won't fix it.
Yeah, not to mention they say that like it doesn't happen every other game sometimes, which kinda had the annoying thing of if Luigi fails the jump you gotta start all over again, meanwhile Luigi here can just jump over pits automatically saving you some trouble
@@FluppietheRockruffFan YES that's exactly what I've been thinking! Its SO ANNOYING when you make the jump as Mario but _Luigi_ lands on the spikes/gloop/whatever hazard is in the way, and it sends you BOTH back to the start... Or when you jump up a ledge but Luigi doesn't Mario gets glued in place and can't move forward... Its no worse in Brothership than it is in any other game.
@@King_Luigi Oh so I guess the game is badly optimized then. Then it's no excuse but I guess it's to be expected since nintendo devs dont really work with UE4
Switch is at the end of its lifecycle. Nintendo just released another Mario franchise title in close approximation to this, which is also a much more mainstream subseries (Mario Party). We’ve had 2 other Mario RPG titles in the past year, bringing the total on Switch to a whopping 6 fuckin Mario RPG switch games (in a franchise known for its platformers and party games). And that IGN score definitely didn’t help. The fact is, too, that this game is a bit of a mixed bag in some departments. I think it is great, but it gets bogged down by some bad ideas like making Luigi more of an NPC that you can control sometimes, and retaining all the talky characters with handhold-y dialogue. It feels like they never learned to trust players, esp when the first three games were better at this. But it’s a shame that it had to happen with a title like this, where they weren’t afraid to be creative and bring in new characters and explore the existing Mario cast or have things that reference and tie into past events. Nintendo will no doubt learn the wrong thing from this, as usual.
Mario's RPG games have never been huge sellers. None of these games ever sold 5 million. Inside Story came close. Who knows. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 opened at 112K and topped out at just under 2 million in sales. The fact it's Mario may give it legs.
For me: 1. Released at a bad time - I’m very ready for the Switch 2 & their launch games 2. I take reviews seriously & IGN is my most reliable for reviews. 3. In broader reviews I’ve heard they F’d up the controls with Luigi & that SUCKS as I’ve played both versions of Bowsers Inside Story & Luigi’s Dream Team 4. I suppose part of it too for me is I only bought Mario & Luigi Bowser Inside Story in Late 2019 & I haven’t felt like going back to the series in a while, particularly without Fawful 5. My ONLY Holiday 2024 title was Super Mario Party Jamboree! Its because I can play multiplayer with friends My final point is I also don’t plan to buy ANY switch games we know about going forward that I don’t already own, unless I find a good Black Friday sale for something older that I missed!
I dont think the game is bad but I dont think it was the right time for it. Echos of wisdom came out, we are anticipating something big like odyssey 2 or the next zelda with link. We’re also getting a remake of donkey Kong. Edit: Mario party jamboree also just came out so we are still playing games that just came out and a rpg style isn’t really what’s needed right now.

I have 4 potential reasons why the game isn’t doing well 1: is that people are getting tired of Mario RPG’s because we just received 2 earlier this year and last year. 2: IGN’s stupid review for it turned people away 3: the switch’s lifespan is ending 4: people would rather play a different game, unfortunately Mario and Luigi brothership released during the time where sonic x shadow generations was doing extremely well, I am a perfect example of this. I saw both games announce and I was considering buying both, sonic x shadow generations comes out and it’s now the best sonic game ever made with near perfect reviews, I decided to buy it instead of buying brothership when it came out because of a little bit of all the reasons I pointed out. As both a Mario and sonic fan I have to say that last year Mario may have taken the cake with Mario bros wonder, a game I never thought would be awarded for game of the year. Sonic fans were in the same place Mario fans are now, superstars is a classic sonic game why do some people not like it. And now it’s the same but reversed.
I don't understand all the hate this game received, it's a fantastic game at heart! People mainly see the bad when it's compared to it's previous titles rather than the actual game itself.
It's a really fun game too play Idk why it gets hate

Yeah, most of IGN don't even use objective game quality to judge games instead using "political correctness" to rate them. It over glorifies Concord, TLOU2, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League while shits on great master pieces like Brothership and Explorers of the Sky.
its not that they are listening to ign they see too many people playing the game having issues with luigi getting stuck, load times between battles being long, the story lacking, the music not as memorable

First impressions can make or break a game sometimes and unfortunately, after playing through Brothership I can see why people would be turned off. It starts off agonizingly slow. It gets better obviously but people wouldn't know that unless they decided to stick to it and Brothership doesn't really give them a reason to do so.
I feel confident the popularity of Brothership will grow. I just bought it and will start playing today, feel excited about it!
And dragon quest just came out today
I mean the story for brothership is just zelda spirit tracks but with less memorable music
@ Nintendo and their lazy music in recent years
@@therealjaystone2344 Are we listening to the same music, because I seriously disagree with you.
It's almost like as soon as you stop comparing it with the other games it becomes really good.
@@nintendofan5978 That can be said about a lot of things so that isn't exactly the best mindset.

exactly, I'm literally seeing streamers super happy and enjoying the game just cause they didn't jump in thinking negatively
while the few that jumped in thinking this game was a 5 out of 10 just keep on complaining and getting negative over any small nitpick they can find and it's such a sad way to play a game.
Give it time, folks. There's only been 1 week, it ain't having enough time to develop their sales.
reminds me of all the fans that propped paper jam as a high rating
I'm surprised people are still trusting IGN after memes like the Ruby and Sapphire "too much water" incident.
I'd personally rate the game a 7 or 8. It's definitely not one of the absolute best RPGs out there and has some noticeable issues that have been bugging me (Mostly in regards to some padding and tedium caused by various design choices like aggressive amounts of backtracking) but it sure as heck is above average and it's definitely not the worst M&L game.
We were SOOO lucky to get this game. It would be so sad if it was the last one.

I don't think timing of the Switch's life cycle had anything to do with it.
So please, don't let this game be shown as a failure, keep supporting this game with all you can, there is still time!!!
whatever! i got mine and am enjoying it tremendously. so glad to see this series return finally!🥰
What’s your pfp from

Mario & Luigi Brothership SUCKS. I had to borrow the game from my brother, and it's really bad. I swear nintendo fan boys have a habit of defending anything that's crappy from nintendo. That's why I gave up being a Nintendo fan ages ago.
What Sucks about it?
I decided to 100% the game and I really enjoyed it,
- Great and charming Characters,
- Funny dialogue,
- Combat was Great prob the best combat in any of the games.
That's not to say the game doesn't have any flaws,
- The story was a little meh
- The performance could dip a bit during moments in the game where it would stress the console.
Here my general thoughts:
1- The game story and plot twist is something I never expected this time especially on a Mario and Luigi rpg game.
These two are my main issues with the game they are completely minor issues and it not supposed to affects the game that much
3- Exploration, and oh yeah that is amazing and super cool to explore the whole region.

I think it's the timing, I mean seriously, this trend of releasing tons of new games in October and November really needs to stop, we all know why they do this, they want their games available in time for Christmas, but then we are just overwhelmed with so many games that we just can't buy them all, at least not in that short amount of time
Mario and Luigi Brothership should be a 10/10 it’s literally the best of the series and so fun to play.
stop blaming ign. if you know you dont agree with their reviews, ignore them. games dont inherantly have a score for how good they are. its an opinion. stop crying over review scores and play what you like. instant blocked channel because I dont wanna hear babies cry over games.
Like why did it take so long?😂
So yeah, this is my opinion so far.

Well, here are my reasons:
- it being released on Switch (yeah 2 months make a difference)
- Mario and Luigi was always niche (stuff like Mario Party always sells)
- the reviews and opinions surely had an impact
- 3 RPGs in just a short time
Maybe there are more reasons but these are the ones I can think of at the moment.
I know this is unrelated to the video, but,, see guys? He can make videos that aren't just Switch 2. So now you can all calm down.

For me:
1. Released at a bad time - I’m very ready for the Switch 2 & their launch games
2. I take reviews seriously & IGN is my most reliable for reviews.
3. In broader reviews I’ve heard they F’d up the controls with Luigi & that SUCKS as I’ve played both versions of Bowsers Inside Story & Luigi’s Dream Team
4. I suppose part of it too for me is I only bought Mario & Luigi Bowser Inside Story in Late 2019 & I haven’t felt like going back to the series in a while, particularly without Fawful
5. My ONLY Holiday 2024 title was Super Mario Party Jamboree! Its because I can play multiplayer with friends
My final point is I also don’t plan to buy ANY switch games we know about going forward that I don’t already own, unless I find a good Black Friday sale for something older that I missed!
My best guess is that it's november, and people are waiting for black friday deals, or just waiting for christmas
Yeah we still have holidays coming up
I dont think the game is bad but I dont think it was the right time for it.
Australia had NO marketing material for a few of its big chain stores. I’m not surprised.

I have 4 potential reasons why the game isn’t doing well
1: is that people are getting tired of Mario RPG’s because we just received 2 earlier this year and last year.
2: IGN’s stupid review for it turned people away
3: the switch’s lifespan is ending
4: people would rather play a different game, unfortunately Mario and Luigi brothership released during the time where sonic x shadow generations was doing extremely well, I am a perfect example of this.
