I agree. But in the case of this game I give them credit, it’s really a snorr fest. Battle system is fun after 20 hours. Everything else is confusing island hopping with endless loading screens.
Over hated? If anything, this game is over praised. People so desperately want to prove IGN is wrong about everything, they go out of their way to defend or overlook serious issues. The fact it's a Mario game gives it even more blind support. I'm a huge Mario fan - I mean my profile pic should make that clear. But this wasn't developed by Nintendo either. It's far from the great game people are making it out to be. People preemptively whine about reviews for games before they even play them. They want to be told the game they're looking forward to is great (or a game they want to fail to is bad). Look at how people whined about the Starfield review being a 7/10, only to come to the realization that yeah, it was a 7. And 5/10 on IGN's rating system means "mediocre." I agree, the game is mediocre. But that's just my opinion, and if others think it's great, more power to them. I'm just tired of people acting like any reviews & opinions that deviate from what they WANT to hear must mean those people don't know what they're talking about/paid off.
@scanchannel3259 Yes I agree with you, people need to learn that's just because this new Mario and Luigi game has a new art style and animations doesn't mean it doesn't need to be like it's others,I swear people complain to much,I think the game is fine
The thing that I like about the story is that the New characters are actual characters in the story. In the older games Besides the villans and a few small characters, most of the unique characters, although funny, are just there to tell what Mario and Luigi have to do to save the day, the characters in Brothership actually do something and have backstories. Side note: I haven't finished the game yet so it could change, but that's just how I feel
People have to remember that this is Acquire first try on the series. This is the rebirth of Mario and Luigi because Alphadream is no more so all the knowledge that was learned with 5 games of experience is not here. Could it have been better? Yes Does it have flaws? Yes. But at least they tried something new. This is an amazing game, a good first try and it could definitely get better with future installments
they're saying it doesn't feel like it's the old games bc, it's not the old games, but then also it DOES feel like the old games, then they're like "the parts that feel like the old games are just the bad bits", like no? it has the goofiness that the series needs and the almost perfect battles of paper jam while having unique characters that for some reason are "terrible, inspired designs" like do you want only toads? at least that's the vibe I got from the reviews
Yeah and If Nintendo was to make it like the “old” games people would be like they didn’t do anything new just the same thing You can’t never please everyone 🤷🏻♂️ ppl will always say something
People just have to complain about every imperfection they come across and then ask themselves: "huh?! Why are we back to collecting stickers in paper mario, and where are all the original character?"
Yeah, I am glad they are killing off the trend started by Sticker Star that lasted for years. Thanks to Super Mario RPG remake and those that follow for bringing Mario RPGs back to their roots.
I never got to play inside story. Dream team was the first M&L game I played and my favorite brother-ship is a close second but dream team will always be my favorite
I'm around 30 hours into this game (and frankly I'm unsure of how much more there is, but I'm really not complaining! I love a game I can sink my teeth into.) The handholding only really lasts long on the first 2 islands or so, but once you get past those it becomes a lot of fun. Overall, it's definitely one of my favorite Mario and Luigi games. I want to address some of the major complaints from the perspective of just a casual player. Luigi AI and controls changes: The changes are certainly bizarre. Do I think they're inherently bad? Not really honestly. For a new player to the series it'll be no issue, but it really doesn't take away from the gameplay IMO. The worst part is trying to get used to it as a long time player, but it's not TOO different. Performance: Honestly? It's not that bad. Some minor frame drops, and the loading screens for battles are kinda annoying. But otherwise, no big issue (though I've seen some people have worse, it seems to be inconsistent?) The story, gameplay, and characters: To me, all of these are good! The story is sweet and (without major spoilers) is often about the importance of connections with family and whatnot, and that's nice. Gameplay is also good, not much different than other games so not much to say, but the battles are a LOT of fun. Characters are cute as well, I love the electricity theming. Dialogue bloat: To me, this is not an issue at all. Much of the "bloated" dialogue is completely optional, but a lot of it is funny and charming! It's well written and surprisingly mature. Overall it's like an 8 for me at the lowest. I'm not done, but to me, it's probably about a 9, the points lowered because of the performance.
It's true though. I've seen so many people cry because Luigi isn't breathing down Mario's neck. B button ain't all actions for Luigi. It messed me up in the beginning, but I got over that immediately.
I think that all of the bad reviews are ruining this game franchise, people were asked for this game franchise to come back for years and once it finally does, they’re all have way too high expectations and then start giving it bad reviews, they’re gonna put the series back to the grave just before it actually got a chance
Agreed! Looking forward to the next paper mario for this exact issue, I'm genuinely expecting the next Paper Mario game to be more like color splash and Origami King given the negativity surrounding the thousand year door remake.
What would you think of this game if it didn’t have the mario and luigi characters in it? It’s a pretty bad game that only got attention because of the ip imho.
@Just_Shaun negativity, didn't thousand year door remake do very well score wise. It was my first time playing an old school paper mario and all I could think of while playing it was why on earth did nintendo abandon this style of gameplay, it is incredible
@@BrilliantBrounlike some other companies, Nintendo doesn’t cancel sequels due to bad reviews. A 79 on metacritic isn’t even that bad. If this game sells well, they will make more Mario and Luigi games. It’s not like how Sony canceled Days Gone 2 because of the reception of Days Gone
If you want my opinion, this game is above both Superstar Saga and Partners in Time respectively, and comfortably 2nd place below Bowser's Inside Story. I think what's really going on is that after a 9 year gap, we gaslit ourselves to expect this massive return to form that's better than when the series peaked, Meanwhile I was expecting A return to form in general.
My guess is that people held the original games to a very high standard. Which is reasonable, they're great. But they held it too high, so now they can't see Brothership being as good as them. Or they just don't like the game, who knows? It's all opinions after all. I haven't played that much, only about an hour, but I really enjoyed my experience so far.
Have cleared the second sea by now. And i think the game is pretty solid. No BiS or Dream Team, but a good entry nonetheless. This is a Mario & Luigi i still think i replay, unlike Paper Jam.
I played every game in the series and can confirm that These people complaining about Brothership are blinded by nostalgia. Like i love the old games too, imo nothing can top bis its my favorite in the series. But Brothership is fun too its like a return to Form kinda with new ideas. And i hate it that Fans of the same series i love are not even willing to give it a chance.
I definitely think this game is amazing. And all the stuff IGN said in their reviews has never happened to me. I haven’t experienced any performance issues, unless I’m dumb and can’t notice.
its there, the performance issues like after every battle the load is there so much dialogue similar to pokemon sun and moon with a lack of story specials take too long bosses and enemy mechanics take way too long
My main complaint is how it feels like the game is trying to force me to do side quests, in part because it's how to kill time while waiting for the ship to get to the next island, but also because they decided to make some side quests missable if you progress too far in the story, like why you doing this to me. Otherwise I like it.
@itshobojoe1391 Yea, i can definitely see why people don't like it as much as when alphadream was running it, but i think for the new people trying they did pretty good. My biggest complaint is the music 😭 it's not BAD, but it doesn't feel like mario and luigi
@shadylawyer7274 I am still baffled why they didn't get Yoko Shimomura back for this. I think her music did alot of heavy lifting even in a game as weak as Paper Jam...which added a sense of whimsy. The music is sure trying but there hasn't been anything that's gotten stuck in my head like Tough Guy Alert, Never Let Up, or the mini game music from BiS
to say its peak is to participate in the trend culture against ign the load times are long enemy mechanics take too long not much of a story not much to do endgame
@@cimorelliqueens9644 the same opinion as everyone else despite the fact the game has legitimate flaws you can enjoy it but try to be realistic to the games actual performance
IGN is on lsd man, this game is amazing, they gave Luigi a huge role other than to just help Mario, he feels like an actual main character in this game
I just finished this game and my biggest grievance is how long it is. Everything else was nice and cute. I even really liked the message the game was trying to spend. But it really did not need to be be 35+ hours.
I think people are hating just to hate tbh, the game isn't that bad, yes the game is flawed in a few things like Luigi is only controlled by AI in the overworld and such but I love it and it could honesty become one of my favorites
I think there are more people hating the ign review just because it was somewhat honest sure the consistency of their reviews is questionable but I honestly think this game is no bowsers inside story (non remix) and its around the same effort as paperjam
The only issues i have is A. the slight amount of lag it feels like luigi has due to the game removing him from Mario's hip to give him the ability to run off on his own and B. the fact that because of said hip removal surgery the Bros don't exactly feel like a cohesive unit, you barely have to touch the B or Y buttons at all outside of specific button prompts in the overworld or in battles, which was one of my favorite things with the M&L games Also this is purely a cosmetic issue to me but Luigi's shell attack should have green lightning sparks, would have been such a cool callback to his thunderhand and a good way to further differentiate between their two shell attacks
HOw is a 5/10 a broken game? its half the points for an average game, is every semi functional game a 8/10? if so, how are we rating stuff in the future if the base line is a 7/10 we could just remove 1-10 and go from 1-3
I think maybe people are forgetting that dream team came out over a decade ago, and that they themselves are the reason they don't enjoy this game as much. I think most of us were quite young when we started on this series, and that nostalgia has really carried our love for the old games. People think its easier and more hand holdy now because they're better at videogames, and they've forgotten the boring parts of the originals. People think the game is less funny because they're more mature and can't laugh at everything anymore.
Not quite, and this is coming from someone who likes Brothership a lot so far. I replayed most of the series leading up to this game and loved it just as much as I did when I was little, the jokes hit just as well and I didn’t really find myself bothered by any boring segments besides Dream Team’s tutorials. Brothership is really funny but not QUITE as funny as Hiroyuki Kubota’s legendary scripts for the first four games, the tutorials aren’t that bad but at least the previous games integrated them into dialogue to add to the charm, here it’s just popups 99% of the time. At the end of the day, even though I don’t fully agree with the haters I really do think it’s just their own valid opinions.
One of my favourite games as of now but I do agree the revoking of Luigi’s rights hurt me especially the lack of selecting Luigi’s attacks with the b button 😢
I’ve been playing this game as of recent and I myself have been enjoying this game, I mean yes there is some flaws like with the long loading screens that I have encountered myself and also Nin10doland Thank You at 17:15 for bringing up the whole B-button fiasco I hope that gets fixed with an update and Mario & Luigi’s voices in this game are okay in my opinion But overall as someone who’s been playing the Mario & Luigi Series ever since the DS, I am just glad to see this series make a comeback after I believe 10 years that is only if you don’t count the remakes though. I hope that Nintendo can continue this series by making it even greater than it was before!
Personally i haven’t played the game but i am really excited to do so. I don’t have much Mario and Luigi experience due to me only owning a Nintendo Switch but i can safely assume is that this game is probably a good “testing the waters” for whoever is gonna be handling the series from now on. If they can learn their mistakes i can trust the next M&L entry will be great.
I like this game so far but…One thing I hate is while controlling Luigi in battle you have to press A to pick which box to use. The old games you used B, weirdly enough it’s throwing me off 😓
I can't believe that IGN gave only 5/10 score to Mario & Luigi Brothership, but I still will play it because I've been a big Mario & Luigi series fan since Bowser's Inside Story on Nintendo DS and this is the biggest Nintendo game of the year for me after The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom Mario: Let's a Go! Luigi: Okey Dokey! ❤
ive been enjoying the game, im a little bummed out by the luigi AI stuff plus removing the roulette on level up since that gave you a bit more control of your character with a bit of rng in the mix but overall its a solid game
Some people are complaining about the game being long. What is yall problem? You want to spend 60$ dollars for a game just for it to last for a couple of days? 😭 I have over 25h so I have a lot of time left with this game to say if it is very good, but I can say at least it is good. Now I give it a 8/10 but when I finish it I'm shure I will give it a 9/10. Also the music it's pretty good.
Some people are criticizing that the game is too long? That’s a weird thing to criticize about it because all of the previous games in the series are pretty long themselves.
8:16 my best thought to why people meet be feeling this is that maybe the new characters are just underwhelming and not grabbing them like Broque Monseur or Prince Peasley and the like (if I had to guess idk)
Now I've played every M&L game except for PIT so I was super excited to get this game, but there were a few things that I saw from the trailers and all that made me kinda hesitant about buying it, so I'm curious about what you or anyone thinks about these things. The first thing is the difficulty. In the past M&L games, I play through them with minimum kill (not to any extent that makes the game unfun tho like avoiding boss-spawned enemies) and thus it makes the bosses really REALLY hard, but I love that about these games, grinding hours on a boss fight basically no-hit and the satisfaction that comes with overcoming each boss. When I heard they were making a new M&L game, I was wondering if they were going to "baby" it like they have with other games (like sonic and other mario games removing lives and making boss fights super easy 3-hit nonsense), you kinda covered this but it also felt like my question was left unanswered if anything (that or I was correct in my assumptions) so I'm asking here. The second thing is the music. Because of Dream Team (my 1st game), the thing I love the absolute most about the whole series is the music (particularly area and boss fight OSTs, with the final boss OST being the crazy awesome piece that it is) and how it doesn't sound like a Mario game, but rather has so much emotion and "dramaticness" (if you would) with the brass and strings and piano. Of course, this was because of the composer, Yoko Shimomura, who not only composed M&L OSTs but also Kingdom Hearts. When I heard that she wouldn't be composing for this game, I was concerned about the style of music that would replace her's. Again, I haven't heard much (trying not to spoil anything for myself), but what I have heard both myself and comments from others has been kinda underwhelming, (not that it's bad music, just it DOES sound like a typical Mario game if you ask me) So I'm asking on opinions of the music in the game, especially the final boss OST and other bosses what everyone thinks of these so far. Didn't mean to make an essay lol, but Ig I'm passionate.
I’m at the 4th sea and 30 hours into the game so let me try to answer The game can get VERY hard actually, it’s no baby game at all especially the later enemies you encounter and bosses can be hard asf even when leveled up About the music, don’t expect it sounding like the usual mario and luigi music. The style is pretty different, and the boss and fight theme is really catchy and fits the game super well but it is not similar to older games soundtracks. It’s much more in tune with usual mario music i haven’t found any very dark or serious music so far like in the older games. I think the soundtrack is still super good and a lot of beats are stuck in my head from playing lmao Story wise i think this is at BIS level and beats dream team in terms of better character, villain and story. But it does take it’s time to get going and the entire 3rd sea is very slow paced story wise. After it the game kicks into overdrive tho, and the 1st and 2nd sea are really nice aswell
After playing some of brothership I have 2 points to make, one is that characters feel so much more alive rather than plot devices/mechanic explainers and have proper personalities and are more memorable than the previous games. 2 is that as smooth as the gameplay is the difficulty has gone down a bit so it’s definitely not as challenging, which I imagine is to be more accessible to a wider audience which is totally understandable. So far I’m enjoying it quite a bit and can’t wait to complete the rest of it! P.s I like backtracking a bit for side quests and they add a bit of spice to a world making it not feel as empty ❤
if only they took more inspiration from bowsers inside story non remix and didn't force these electric outlet characters into the nonexistent story this is a new company but is copying what didnt work from alphadream
This is my favorite Mario and Luigi game of all time, and I have played all the previous games three or more times. This is actually my second favorite game of ALL TIME, with Pikmin 4 just beating it. And I still haven't finished it! This is the best Mario RPG, best Mario Game, and my second favorite game of all time. I don't understand why people are upset.
Exactly! I feel like a lot of people complaining haven’t even played I’m closing in to the ending and it just keeps getting better and better it’s becoming one of my fav too Only critiques i understand are the slow start and luigi not using the B button
Yep same. I'm a veteran Super Mario RPG on snes person and Brothership is one of the best. Also, get ready because the ending goes hard, you're in for a treat.
honestly, it took some getting used to Luigi's movement, but after you get used to it, the game's honestly super good. I have been having a absolute blast with it for the last 3 days. Also, I (almost) 100%ed it, only reason i haven't is due to a side-quest that needs drops from glohm enemies. there is 3 levels of it, glohm sand, glohm crystal and glohm fragment. glohm sand (unfortunately) only drops before you enter zokket's castle. So to anyone out there trying to get every side-quest done, do yourself a favor and make sure you have at least 5 of them before you go.
@@crowmaster9652You are literally spamming every comment thread and trying to get people to not buy the game. If they want to buy the game, or think it's good, then they have the right to do that. You have the right to not like the game. But it goes both ways. Surely you have better things to do than to leave a billion comments in this video. I personally am enjoying the game a lot so far. While it's not perfect, it's better than what IGN made it out to be.
Thanks for sharing your opinion, I have lots of fun playing this game but yeah sometimes I feel like dev's just could add the most iconic things in this game that made mario & luigi series so special like adding bonus stats that gives u 1-3 lifes more when u level up or using B button when u fight as luigi, but overall this game is great and I really recommend to everyone to play it
@MegaDarkness5000 It does. I've been watching chuggaaconroys. Let's play on bowsers' inside story, and he has a tutorial counter, and he's at the giant battle against Bowser's Castle with 28 tutorials in total
4:44 I think this refers to the fact that Luigi is no longer controllable removing things like those M L blocks that alternated making you press A then B then A then B so on
Guys, calm down with the hate. This game is meant to be quite different from previous games, almost sort of a refresh. While Brothership isn't as sharply witty nor uproaringly funny as best of Mario RPGs, it is more enduringly wholesome. The plot in the game is pretty much reflection of that direction. So far, I'm enjoying it even if I want it to be quite more funny.
I think the linear complaint is that people don't like how the islands are segmented. With BIS for example, when you have to go collect the parts of the miracle (toadley) cure, you have to physically go to places you've already been, through other places you've already been. Everything is connected so it feels more open. As opposed to here when you have to go somewhere else you just press ZR and warp to what's going to feel like another hallway. I agree that all the games are linear but it's how the game presents the linearity that makes the difference. A I think it's also because a game about going from island to island _feels_ like it'd be open world, and the game even tries to present it that way sometimes, but it largely isn't.
Not sure why people feel that way in my experience the islands feels super interconnected as npcs constatly travel between them, and all the island constantly change as u progress the story There’s a lot of backtracking too (not that tedious for the most part although lower level enemies are so annoying) that makes u visit pasts island and makes them feel a lot more connected
@@MrCraigLama imo the islands only feel connected by story, but they're clearly not physically connected. I can see people going both ways on that though
Skorchee island already teases a new mechanic of the later part of the game with the piranha plants. I personally love the glohm addition in this game.
My biggest complaint is that Luigi no longer uses the B button when navigating his battle menu. It’s dumb. My decades of muscle memory is out the window.
It’s much more linear but I don’t really have a problem with that. One gripe I have right now is side quests feel a little bit backtrack-y and the rewards aren’t always the best. A syrup jar isn’t worth the trip running back through an island I’ve already visited.
3:34 No its the devs fault Saying the console is at fault for the poor quallity of a game (especially if its a console exclusive) is like beeing angry about why the pizza isnt done after you put it into the microwave The devs should have adjusted to the hardware because the hardware wont adjust for them I hope the game gets the patches it needs to run smoothly because i experienced big amounts of input lag in the overworld with is anoying when the goal is to make precise jumps
While there are some parts of the game I'm not too big a fan of, they're not major and I can overlook them, because this is Nintendo's first M&L game without AlphaDream, so of course it's gonna be a rocky start. This was probably just to test the waters and for all we know, the next game could end up surpassing Bowser's Inside Story
I have had about 10 hrs into and I can say I only play in dock mode and I haven’t seen any of this chugging are really low frame rate and I haven’t seen any and this is the very first Nintendo switch model
What I miss in the more modern Mario & Luigi games (and remakes of Superstar Saga & Bowser's inside story) is the NPC reaction. There is something very comedic about the Mario & Luigi being able to hit each other on the field with a hammer, making them angry. Sorta like "Yeah, you're my brother, but some times you just annoy the heck out of me!!' The remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door understood this concept, going as far as adding NPC and partner animations when you hammer them!!! But that is not on topic...I have no problems with this game except the loading times. The small islands feel like bite sized adventures that lead into the larger game, lending the gameplay to feeling more "portable-friendly", how things felt on Nintendo handheld systems, which I love and appreciate often these days.
We should be grateful we even got a new M&L game. Is it anywhere as peak as say, Bowser's Inside Story? Not really. But I think it could certainly leave a blueprint for the future of M&L on modern hardware.
I've seen nothing but love except from, of course, ign. They gave the same reasons to give Mario and Luigi a 5 as they gave to give veilguard a 9. Its pathetic lol
Not sure if you guys noticed but there is a challenge to defeat 300 enemies without any gear so if your like me and trying to 100% the game I’d start that on early on. It also allows you to save coins for more expensive gear.
I honestly like mario and luigi brothership. One the music is amazing, two the characters are unique in a cool way and the graphics were good and the attack animation was all incredible. But I won't lie even though kevin is the new voice actor of mario and luigi he could have voiced them way better well atleast for luigi
A bit overhated MAYBE. But the amount of nonsense in this game is almost unbearable. How would you ever play that game again in your live ? You are basically stuck with 2 attacks for the first 10 hours of the game with like 5 different enemies. What were they thinking? As an RPG it’s only okish after you get the plugging system and even then it takes hours to get all the interesting combinations. Story starts after 15 hours….why?. It gets interesting and creative at the bowser battles. But until that point it’s just a bit WTF moment.
It does too much in my opinion. It strays from the first 3 mario & luigi games. I personally dont like how cinematic the game feels, the battles has way too much going on, the game feels slower. major thing that comes to mind is the fact you can't put points into stats upon leveling up.
Brothership had the issues of older Mario and Luigi games while making the better parts better. Maybe people only excused the m&l series before because it was a hand held experience. I've played the game, and while the combat is amazing, it's less funny and less interesting than older games. Super star saga, partners in time, inside story and dream team have provided me with a greater overall experience. It's unfortunate
Oh brother today's people are just so hard to please these days. They always whine, and moan, and wet their pants in disappointment and that's even before they play a new game or watched a new movie. Nothing is good enough for anyone if it's not trending on Twitter or TikTok or even have a stinking WiFi then it's automatically hated
I'm honestly having much fun with the game so far. There was one challenge that worried me to gameplay (Do it Yourself) so I got that out of the way first, but other than that it's been quite fun. And I was wondering the same things as well because Mario & Luigi games have never been big with story so...
I agree on the fact that it feels like it's missing something. Personally I really hope we can just get a Mario & Luigi featuring Wario and Waluigi, like, them not being referenced in any of the M&L games is a huge missed opportunity to me
I’ve completed the game and there’s major lag toward the end but otherwise A+ tier game! Though where are the boss refights and bros attack mini challenges 😭
This is my favorite entry in my favorite RPG series. There's a couple of negatives here and there-STARLOOOWWW- but im having a very good time. The Battle Plugs are my favorite of the Battle Gimmicks along with the Bros constantly working together in every attack. The linearity complaint is kinda butts. Dream Team was the most linear even with its backtracking.
I don’t get the idea of bad performance due to the age of the hardware. The developers know what they are working with so make the game with that in mind. Look at Mario odessey. Absolutely beautiful large game with no performance drops whatsoever. It’s the devs not the hardware, if the specs are not strong enough then make the game accordingly
Personally I love brothership even more than most of the other games The Luigi logic is honestly so much fun to use The characters and stories for me are kinda fun for me Only downside is the ship kinda gets annoying
Despite a lot of the negativity surrounding it, I'm still excited to try out Brothership. Personally, I'm just glad the series is back, so that's reason alone for me to try this out. I'm ok with games having a longer length too, as long as the content is fun and doesn't get too repetitive (that's why Pikmin 4 was my favorite game of last year). Even if this game does seem to have a slower pace and gets a bit repetitive after a while, I personally think the gameplay and story of Mario and Luigi games (and Mario RPGs in general) are enough to keep me in the experience.
I could get behind the longer length just as long as the game isn't too handholding and filled with unnecessary padding stuff that you have to do rather than being optional or not be there at all and not have all the tutorialsshove your face everywhere with no way of skipping it. Looking at you Dream Team. Your definitely the worst of them all.
They should patch in manual control for Luigi, let Luigi jump and carry momentum on all surfaces, and cut down the dialogue at the start. The game would also be better if they gave the bros move with fast movement earlier in the game (like PM64), and there were more attack options earlier to get past the 7-10 hour slog at the start.
The only issues I have with the game is that you cant use B to select attacks for Luigi and how on the overworld Luigi just auto jumps and it doesnt start fights if Luigi gets into contact with enemies
from what i've heard of the game, and i've heard basically nothing, i'd say my main complaint would be luigi's battle menu not being controlled with the b button. it's a really small thing i know, but i feel like it's strange they did that. old mario&luigi fans are used to the b button so switching it to a feels weird in that way, but also for newer players, the b button for luigi's menus could really help people get used to using b for specifically luigi's actions.
I haven’t played it yet. I am someone who played the first game superstar saga shortly after it came out and I absolutely loved it. Partners in time and bowsers inside story are close 2nds for me. Based on what I’ve seen and heard so far I don’t have super high hopes. But that being said I want to give it a fair shot, and come in not having any expectations. I think if I do that I could definitely enjoy it
Mario and luigi Superstar Saga and Mario and luigi Partners in Time are not the best RPG games. The best Mario and luigi games are Mario and luigi bowser inside story, Mario and luigi Dream team, and Mario and luigi paper jam are the best Mario and luigi RPG games
I have to be brutally honest! The game is great! Despite the many flaws! But it slogs in some areas! And it definitely deserves some more than just what it ended up with! As for ign? They're not completely wrong! But you know I am also in the same boat as some of the people! It truly sucks that the game didn't do much to impress me! But overall in fairness the game is just great! Not perfect but great
More people should learn that IGN is NOT a good source. Almost all of their reviews make no sense.

I agree. But in the case of this game I give them credit, it’s really a snorr fest. Battle system is fun after 20 hours. Everything else is confusing island hopping with endless loading screens.

I REALLY think the games VERY overhated. It's flawed yes but it really isn't as bad as people say. I think people are on something.
I feel like this is the same thing that happened with Dream Team
my one problem is luigi, this game feels, more like a Mario game, with a luigi npc that follows you around.
mario brother ship + luigi, if you will

@@corey2232Far from the truth

Might be the last though
@scanchannel3259 Yes I agree with you, people need to learn that's just because this new Mario and Luigi game has a new art style and animations doesn't mean it doesn't need to be like it's others,I swear people complain to much,I think the game is fine
@@kylelien7810 Cold hard facts
For real it been so long
I think people need to realize more that some people are just complaining for sake of complaining.
The thing that I like about the story is that the New characters are actual characters in the story. In the older games Besides the villans and a few small characters, most of the unique characters, although funny, are just there to tell what Mario and Luigi have to do to save the day, the characters in Brothership actually do something and have backstories.
Side note: I haven't finished the game yet so it could change, but that's just how I feel
same here dude they did really upgrade the overall npcs and side characters
This makes me more excited to play the game on Wednesday
People have to remember that this is Acquire first try on the series. This is the rebirth of Mario and Luigi because Alphadream is no more so all the knowledge that was learned with 5 games of experience is not here. Could it have been better? Yes Does it have flaws? Yes. But at least they tried something new. This is an amazing game, a good first try and it could definitely get better with future installments
yeah that makes sense and they could also add things like giant battles or papercraft battles like nin10doland said.

I agree that this feels like the "Superstar Saga" of a new Mario & Luigi era. But I'm just happy we got a new Mario & Luigi game overall!
Amazing. SSS is my fav
they're saying it doesn't feel like it's the old games bc, it's not the old games, but then also it DOES feel like the old games, then they're like "the parts that feel like the old games are just the bad bits", like no? it has the goofiness that the series needs and the almost perfect battles of paper jam while having unique characters that for some reason are "terrible, inspired designs" like do you want only toads?
at least that's the vibe I got from the reviews
Yeah and If Nintendo was to make it like the “old” games people would be like they didn’t do anything new just the same thing
You can’t never please everyone 🤷🏻♂️ ppl will always say something
People just have to complain about every imperfection they come across and then ask themselves: "huh?! Why are we back to collecting stickers in paper mario, and where are all the original character?"
Yeah, I am glad they are killing off the trend started by Sticker Star that lasted for years. Thanks to Super Mario RPG remake and those that follow for bringing Mario RPGs back to their roots.
This game really just feels like Bowser’s Inside Story and Dream Team again which I love so much
I never got to play inside story. Dream team was the first M&L game I played and my favorite brother-ship is a close second but dream team will always be my favorite
i have played both games and i can confirm your right. also i know some people say its wordy but that's what i like about it
Bowsers inside story is litteraly my favourite RPG (unless totk is a RPG)

@@schleimi54and they are right about it.. this is why you don't release 3 mario related RPG games on the same year
@@poyrazunlu theyre really not
I'm around 30 hours into this game (and frankly I'm unsure of how much more there is, but I'm really not complaining! I love a game I can sink my teeth into.)
The handholding only really lasts long on the first 2 islands or so, but once you get past those it becomes a lot of fun.
But otherwise, no big issue (though I've seen some people have worse, it seems to be inconsistent?)
The story, gameplay, and characters: To me, all of these are good!
The clickbait is crazy it's literally just ign
It's true though. I've seen so many people cry because Luigi isn't breathing down Mario's neck. B button ain't all actions for Luigi.
It messed me up in the beginning, but I got over that immediately.
Nah me too. I'm not a big fan of the art style and the bad frame rate makes it unplayable
True. Unless you actually watch the full video after 1:55.
No it i’snt, there are complaints from plenty others as well.
No, there are some people voicing critiques
I think that all of the bad reviews are ruining this game franchise, people were asked for this game franchise to come back for years and once it finally does, they’re all have way too high expectations and then start giving it bad reviews, they’re gonna put the series back to the grave just before it actually got a chance
I agree with you completely, there’re going to put this back into the grave just as quickly as it came out😢
Bro’s taking those IGN dollars. Respect rescinded.
For me, it's below Superstar Saga & Bowser's Inside Story. But above Partners in Time, Dream Team & Paper Jam.
I haven’t experienced any performance issues, unless I’m dumb and can’t notice.
its there, the performance issues like after every battle the load is there
so much dialogue similar to pokemon sun and moon with a lack of story
specials take too long
bosses and enemy mechanics take way too long
My main complaint is how it feels like the game is trying to force me to do side quests, in part because it's how to kill time while waiting for the ship to get to the next island, but also because they decided to make some side quests missable if you progress too far in the story, like why you doing this to me. Otherwise I like it.
Some people just don't understand peak
I've been trying to give it a fair shake. I love everything from Superstar Saga to Dream Team, but this just feels off.
@itshobojoe1391 Yea, i can definitely see why people don't like it as much as when alphadream was running it, but i think for the new people trying they did pretty good. My biggest complaint is the music 😭 it's not BAD, but it doesn't feel like mario and luigi
You like smash Ultimate?
@shadylawyer7274 I am still baffled why they didn't get Yoko Shimomura back for this. I think her music did alot of heavy lifting even in a game as weak as Paper Jam...which added a sense of whimsy. The music is sure trying but there hasn't been anything that's gotten stuck in my head like Tough Guy Alert, Never Let Up, or the mini game music from BiS
@itshobojoe1391 i know right 😭 I'm super disappointed cus I love her music
This game is absolutely PEAK I’m on hour 12 and I’m loving it more and more
Same here! I love the game!
to say its peak is to participate in the trend culture against ign
the load times are long
enemy mechanics take too long
not much of a story
not much to do endgame

@@cimorelliqueens9644 the same opinion as everyone else despite the fact the game has legitimate flaws
you can enjoy it but try to be realistic to the games actual performance
Honestly, haters gonna hate. But I say this game's great!
alphadream went bankrupt off the same mechanics they put in this game
too bad nobody saved alphadream
IGN is on lsd man, this game is amazing, they gave Luigi a huge role other than to just help Mario, he feels like an actual main character in this game
I just finished this game and my biggest grievance is how long it is. Everything else was nice and cute. I even really liked the message the game was trying to spend. But it really did not need to be be 35+ hours.
If you think this game is long, you have not played Dream Team.
I think people are hating just to hate tbh, the game isn't that bad, yes the game is flawed in a few things like Luigi is only controlled by AI in the overworld and such but I love it and it could honesty become one of my favorites
I think there are more people hating the ign review just because it was somewhat honest
sure the consistency of their reviews is questionable but I honestly think this game is no bowsers inside story (non remix)
and its around the same effort as paperjam
The only issues i have is A. the slight amount of lag it feels like luigi has due to the game removing him from Mario's hip to give him the ability to run off on his own and B. the fact that because of said hip removal surgery the Bros don't exactly feel like a cohesive unit, you barely have to touch the B or Y buttons at all outside of specific button prompts in the overworld or in battles, which was one of my favorite things with the M&L games
Also this is purely a cosmetic issue to me but Luigi's shell attack should have green lightning sparks, would have been such a cool callback to his thunderhand and a good way to further differentiate between their two shell attacks
Mario and Luigi Brothership 100/10
Agreed
HOw is a 5/10 a broken game? its half the points for an average game, is every semi functional game a 8/10? if so, how are we rating stuff in the future if the base line is a 7/10
we could just remove 1-10 and go from 1-3
I think maybe people are forgetting that dream team came out over a decade ago, and that they themselves are the reason they don't enjoy this game as much.
I think most of us were quite young when we started on this series, and that nostalgia has really carried our love for the old games.
People think its easier and more hand holdy now because they're better at videogames, and they've forgotten the boring parts of the originals.
People think the game is less funny because they're more mature and can't laugh at everything anymore.
hmmmm you might be onto something
They could make a patch to add an option to change if you want to select Luigi's attacks with the b button or the a button.
@ I wish ☹️
Yeah that was a weird change in my opinion too
Lmao I love that, “revoking of Luigi’s rights”
1:01 DO bash a publication when they have L takes and have experienced problems that other's haven't and dock the Game for that.
Today is a Nintendo direct about the Donkey Kong land at Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan.
I just realized… I think Mario and Luigi’s standard jump attacks are meant to reference Bounce Bros/Splash Bros
Am I the only one who genuinely had no issues with load times and performance issues
First Paper Jam, now Brothership?! ARE YOU GUYS OUT OF YOUR (can't say it)-ING MINDS?!
5/10 is average. The fact that you think it means broken and bad shows what the issue is.
ive been enjoying the game, im a little bummed out by the luigi AI stuff plus removing the roulette on level up since that gave you a bit more control of your character with a bit of rng in the mix but overall its a solid game
Some people are complaining about the game being long. What is yall problem? You want to spend 60$ dollars for a game just for it to last for a couple of days? 😭
I have over 25h so I have a lot of time left with this game to say if it is very good, but I can say at least it is good. Now I give it a 8/10 but when I finish it I'm shure I will give it a 9/10.
Also the music it's pretty good.
Some people are criticizing that the game is too long? That’s a weird thing to criticize about it because all of the previous games in the series are pretty long themselves.
spend your money on bowsers inside story on the ds
Well for the Mario & Luigi series, it is known for yhise that wanted an shorter length game that spent over 40+ hours like most RPG'S do these days.
8:16 my best thought to why people meet be feeling this is that maybe the new characters are just underwhelming and not grabbing them like Broque Monseur or Prince Peasley and the like (if I had to guess idk)
Of course they are. This is why I ignore reviews online.
then again the review save 60 dollars
I bought it and it feels watered down paper jam with better graphics
I think this game lacks that feeling of progression it just feels like your doing objectives just to do them :(
Now I've played every M&L game except for PIT so I was super excited to get this game, but there were a few things that I saw from the trailers and all that made me kinda hesitant about buying it, so I'm curious about what you or anyone thinks about these things.
I’m at the 4th sea and 30 hours into the game so let me try to answer
The game can get VERY hard actually, it’s no baby game at all especially the later enemies you encounter and bosses can be hard asf even when leveled up
About the music, don’t expect it sounding like the usual mario and luigi music. The style is pretty different, and the boss and fight theme is really catchy and fits the game super well but it is not similar to older games soundtracks. It’s much more in tune with usual mario music i haven’t found any very dark or serious music so far like in the older games. I think the soundtrack is still super good and a lot of beats are stuck in my head from playing lmao
Story wise i think this is at BIS level and beats dream team in terms of better character, villain and story. But it does take it’s time to get going and the entire 3rd sea is very slow paced story wise. After it the game kicks into overdrive tho, and the 1st and 2nd sea are really nice aswell
@@MrCraigLama Ok, thanks for your opinion! That makes the game already seem so much more worth buying now that I know those things!
IGN is not happy with Brothership
After playing some of brothership I have 2 points to make, one is that characters feel so much more alive rather than plot devices/mechanic explainers and have proper personalities and are more memorable than the previous games. 2 is that as smooth as the gameplay is the difficulty has gone down a bit so it’s definitely not as challenging, which I imagine is to be more accessible to a wider audience which is totally understandable. So far I’m enjoying it quite a bit and can’t wait to complete the rest of it! P.s I like backtracking a bit for side quests and they add a bit of spice to a world making it not feel as empty ❤
Wish that everyone can be grateful that we have a new Mario and Luigi game
if only they took more inspiration from bowsers inside story non remix and didn't force these electric outlet characters into the nonexistent story
this is a new company but is copying what didnt work from alphadream
This is my favorite Mario and Luigi game of all time, and I have played all the previous games three or more times. This is actually my second favorite game of ALL TIME, with Pikmin 4 just beating it. And I still haven't finished it! Exactly! I feel like a lot of people complaining haven’t even played
I’m closing in to the ending and it just keeps getting better and better it’s becoming one of my fav too
Only critiques i understand are the slow start and luigi not using the B button
Yeah exactly! Same for me too!

Bowser's Inside Story also has way too much tutorials going on.
@MegaDarkness5000 It does. I've been watching chuggaaconroys. Let's play on bowsers' inside story, and he has a tutorial counter, and he's at the giant battle against Bowser's Castle with 28 tutorials in total
Fun fact in dream team if you hit B on Mario’s term or A on Luigi’s the other bro would jump
Don't they do that in every game, not including Brothership?
@ I think so. Only games I’ve played are Dream Team paper jam and Brother ship
I can indeed confirm it is every Mario and Luigi game
4:44 I think this refers to the fact that Luigi is no longer controllable removing things like those M L blocks that alternated making you press A then B then A then B so on
THANK YOU for this review, everything said here is so relevant.
Are you kidding me?I enjoyed it on my live stream !!!!!!!!!!😡
A
I think it's also because a game about going from island to island _feels_ like it'd be open world, and the game even tries to present it that way sometimes, but it largely isn't.
Not sure why people feel that way in my experience the islands feels super interconnected as npcs constatly travel between them, and all the island constantly change as u progress the story
There’s a lot of backtracking too (not that tedious for the most part although lower level enemies are so annoying) that makes u visit pasts island and makes them feel a lot more connected
@@MrCraigLama imo the islands only feel connected by story, but they're clearly not physically connected. I can see people going both ways on that though
@ they’re not as it’s all just warp pipes exactly, but they do manage to make them feel all connected imo
A more traditional overworld will always feel more interconnected then a level select structure
IGN got mad we got more tumblr sexymen than their favorite
Skorchee island already teases a new mechanic of the later part of the game with the piranha plants. I personally love the glohm addition in this game.
My biggest complaint is that Luigi no longer uses the B button when navigating his battle menu. It’s dumb. My decades of muscle memory is out the window.
It’s much more linear but I don’t really have a problem with that. One gripe I have right now is side quests feel a little bit backtrack-y and the rewards aren’t always the best. A syrup jar isn’t worth the trip running back through an island I’ve already visited.

No its the devs fault
Saying the console is at fault for the poor quallity of a game (especially if its a console exclusive) is like beeing angry about why the pizza isnt done after you put it into the microwave
The devs should have adjusted to the hardware because the hardware wont adjust for them
I hope the game gets the patches it needs to run smoothly because i experienced big amounts of input lag in the overworld with is anoying when the goal is to make precise jumps
This is my forst Mario RPG, and I'm loving it, I'm also 15 hours in and have only just got to the quest where Dorrie appears bit I've had no problems
New news: Nintendo has announced a Nin10do Land direct. Nintendo being Nintendo.
Sorta like "Yeah, you're my brother, but some times you just annoy the heck out of me!!'
The remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door understood this concept, going as far as adding NPC and partner animations when you hammer them!!!
I think it’s just people want more story for a Mario game when that never really happens
I bought this and I dumped the files to my ryujinx emulator, found a 60fps mod + 4k and it was awesome
I'm loving the game, it really starts to get good a few hours in
Forcing a game like this run at 30FPS makes it highly deserving of a low score
A lot and it's just IGN, are these people in the room with us right now?
60+ hours in and this game is amazing.
If I take personal feelings out of I think brother ship is the best game in the Mario & Luigi series.
I don't care the game is good or bad some yall should be thankful that we got a new mario and luigi game. It almost been 10 years
I don’t get the idea of bad performance due to the age of the hardware. The developers know what they are working with so make the game with that in mind. Look at Mario odessey. Absolutely beautiful large game with no performance drops whatsoever. It’s the devs not the hardware, if the specs are not strong enough then make the game accordingly
I think the game is amazing and my only problem is that I thinks it's the only mario rpg with no attempt at comedy.
Partners in Time was peak
No it wasn't. That would be Superstar Saga & Bowser's Inside Story.
Personally I love brothership even more than most of the other games
The Luigi logic is honestly so much fun to use
The characters and stories for me are kinda fun for me
Only downside is the ship kinda gets annoying
I love this game.
