A few things that many people might not be aware of, or expect when crystal mining:
1: Ron Coleman mine does not allow you to use hammers and chisels to knock crystals off of large boulders, although they bring large boulders up that have crystals on them (so it's a "look this, oh, you can't have it" scenario). All the other mines allow you to use hammers and chisels.
2: Ron Coleman is the most acessible. All the other mines have entrance roads that so horrible, you'll probably do damage to your vehicle unless you are VERY careful, and in a 4WD. Ron Coleman has a GOOD, paved entrance road.
3: Your chances of getting anything nice is nil. Tailings are just the leftovers after the mine crew has taken all the pretty and undmaged crystals out of it. So you're essentially paying 25$ a day to root through their dumpster. If you get a fresh pile, then you may get lucky and find a few crystal or small clusters that are acceptable to someone who is not very picky. But don't expect anything bigger than your thumb, or if you DO get something bigger than that, it willnot be very clear, or be beat up.
4: The GOOD pieces that they sell in the gift shop are extremely ovepriced, you can get the same thing for half that price at gem and mineral shows.
5: Much of their advertizing is kind of a bait and switch. You notice on the coupon it says "World class crystals"... but the public is not allowed to dig for world class crystals, only leftovers. Other popular youtubers such as Crystal collector go to places like these, and are allowed to dig in the exclusive area to promote the mine, but the public cannot go to those spots, anf the youtubers cannot even take home their finds without paying a large sum for them (Which is less than retail, but still a large sum)

Wow, I can’t wait to go to Arkansas, going to try to do a pocket dig this summer, I started this channel a handful of days ago& my mission is to get rockhounding folks, jewelry folks, and other folks into getting out there and finding some cool rocks

You gave some great tips. I have been there a few times and found some nice crystals. Colemans is one of the best pay to dig mines in the area. I am heading back when they haul some new material to the top. I do know a good free dig site that has some good stuff if you know what you are doing.

I love hearing this and am glad you are heading back soon. I hope you get a great haul. What do you do with your crystals? Mine sit around our RV and I just admire them. I want to go back to Colemans soon. I miss the thrill of digging and hunting. I'd love to know more about this free dig site if you are willing to share. :)
