Twin Creek is far and away the best mine for amateur rock hounds to visit. We’ve been twice and loved the experience. Pay for the private pocket. It’s absolutely worth it for the quantity of clear points and incredible clusters. Bobby even helped us out when we lost the vein. It’s a great mine run by great folks. As soon as the weather cools off, my family will definitely make the trip back to Twin Creek.
I can't wait to go to your mine again when I go back home to Arkansas. Had an absolute blast last time. Found some great crystal points for jewelry when I was there... enough to last me all year and well worth the money I paid to dig through the tailing piles. I even found a gallon baggie worth of tiny, earring sized clear points in the freaking PARKING LOT. I just picked them up off the ground everywhere. Because it was a short trip, I didn't get the chance to stay out there very long. Next time, I think I'm going to make a couple days of it and have y'all open a pocket for me. Can't wait. Great mine, and great folks running it.
This was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen! I usually come to AR once a year to mine in the tailings, but WOW - digging right in the rocks - I would love to have the experience of knowing what to look for, and finding a pocket like this. How amazingly cool! Thanks for the video - inspiring!
My sister and brother-in-law have taken me to Twin Creek a couple of times a couple of years ago and I have returned home with beautiful crystal each time..both points and clusters. We filled about 7 totes with clusters and about 4 buckets with points and small clusters the first time. I was hooked right there!!! Bobby was kind enough to show me what to look for and I found a small pocket that had awesome clusters and a bunch of small, very clear points that were perfect for jewelry. Only met Dixie once but she was also full of information and very comfortable to talk to. I will definitely go back to Twin Creek. We tried some of the other mines around the area near Hot Springs but our best stuff came from here and it was from the main area. Thanks Bobby and Dixie!
If you go there be aware, you'll be told to stay in the main area (I'll call it the "general admission" area). You are told, under no circumstances are you to go behind the roped off areas where you can see fresh dirt dug by the backhoe. The general admission area has been gone over and over by many hundreds of people before you. Your chance of finding anything significant is poor. The day I was there, with maybe 25 people digging, no one found anything of interest. All the good stuff is in the roped off areas. I just saw a vid of a guy digging in one of the roped off areas there....crystals galore. After driving 23 hours to get there, I feel totally ripped off.
yes, this is sadly, pretty widespread in the fee pay mines. I love the thrill of digging a nice pocket but those days are pretty much gone, unless you own a mine... or close friends with a mine owner.
I am the owner of this mine, and yes you will be asked to stay in the main area, (SAFETY) but that is a complete fabrication about the fresh dirt not being available to dig in, I am thinking you are the same person who wrote a negative review on trip advisor, we dont get many bad reviews so I remember them... you were here the weekend after the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS?? after 300+ folks, ya maybe your timing was bad!! I am sorry that you found "nothing of significance" please try ANY other mine Also we open feeder veins all day long, so if you really want to dig EZ bring the correct tools, and come on!! Also for an extra fee we will OPEN A POCKET FOR YOU!!!!
I never did a review on Trip Advisor and I'm simply telling the truth....100%. I found the people running the place very nice but I'll say it again...we were told "under no circumstances to go behind the roped off areas." (Freshly dug areas.) I understand the safety aspect but the good stuff was behind the ropes. That's the truth.
Weak...You'll wear yourself right out pecking like that at the seams with what looks like a relatively heavy bar. Use a hammer and chisel at the very least, with careful control!
oh, New web site too, Dixiecrystalcompany.com
It's pretty broken right now.

This is exactly what me and my son want to do. Mining our very own vein for a couple of days would be a dream.
