The Catrike 700 IS NOT a uncomfortable trike to ride. In fact, It is A LOT more comfortable than a lot of other trikes, due to the relaxed laid back angle. I just recently bought a brand new Catrike 700, 2024 from Utah Trikes. I love this trike! I also have a Catrike Expedition 2017, which I also bought from Utah Trikes brand new in 2017, which I still have. I have also previously owned a Catrike Trail (my first recumbent trike) 2014 model. I have found that when pedaling up a steep hill or even a long grade. If your riding position angle is more straight up, it is a lot more difficult to inhale deep breaths due to being bunched up. JUST BECAUSE...the Catrike 700 is built for speed! Doesn't mean you can't go on long-term tours with it. Pack light... The FAST and LIGHT approach! As a experienced recumbent trike tourist, and having the Catrike Expedition, and now the Catrike 700 as well. They are both very well built STRONG recumbent trikes. As long as you're not pushing the gross weight limits, you're fine. The stereotype is that the Catrike 700 can't be used for long-term touring. I've never been one who follows what the crowd says. I personally had my custom Catrike 700 built with upgraded gearing for a wide range of versatility for speed and for climbing.
I tested a lot of trikes. Almost bought a 559 and then I rode a Dumont. It’s a night and day comparison. The roads are not all the great in my area and vibration kills me. The full suspension of the Dumont takes all the meanness out of the road. I’ve had my Dumont a couple years now and the only regret I have was taking so long to get it.
@@UtahTrikesOnlineabsolutely. I was set to get a 559 with a Bosch motor, the motor is a lot of fun. But after riding a Dumont, I had to get suspension. Have never regretted my decision, and if I want, I can always add the motor. So far, I don’t need it.
I’m a proud owner of a 559 and a 700. I ride them interchangeably all year round for over 10,000 miles per year. I ride strictly on paved trails, rail trails, etc. the 559 is my Lexus sedan and the 700 is my Porsche. The price upgrade to get the suspension of a,Dumont is way too much and adds weight and the 559 is super comfy with the great seats and Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires. The 700 is so much lighter and faster but the rider has to be trim and agile to get in and out. The folding operation is really a dirty pain in the butt process. Get grease everywhere and it’s still clumsy to maneuver. Easier just to get a good trike rack like HITCHRIDER on the rear of the car . If you have an suv or minivan then just get ramps and roll it in unfolded. I’ve ridden my Catrikes tens of thousands of miles and they are the best made, most reliable products out there. Their product support is incredible. My advice to any new customer is spend a few extra bucks and get exactly the model, you want with the options you want. It’s worth it.
I bought 2 trikes before my Catrike Dumont, and I fell in love with it from day one. I'm 74, and I will not go with electrical assistance. I'm in this for wanting to get around and enjoy nature, so slow and enjoy is my game, this speed is crazy especially when the trails have speed limits and the clown fly pass, blow stop signs and cry when a car hits them.
@@SFCRambo60 I’m 72 and do not use e assist. I live in Massachusetts and we have strict laws regarding e bikes and speed limits and no throttle control is allowed but nothing is ever enforced. I cook along just fine and can easily ride the 15 mph limit allowed on our trails but average speed is usually lower due to the traffic on the nice trails. I’m sick and tired of the 300 pounders zipping by at 20-25 mph with governors removed and at full throttle. They cause numerous accidents with walkers and other cyclists and are totally unaware of basic courtesies.
Very nice breakdown of the differences. I test rode a dumont but wasn't real thrilled with it. The seat felt too upright, it closed down my hip angle. I need to visit you guys and try out an expedition.

That's why we love test rides! The suspension on the Dumont is so great for bumpy roads!

we definitely recommend researching models and trying them and getting the perfect model for you!
Great post!
thank you!
I have a 559. My wife has an expedition we ride a lot mainly on paved greenways
I have had a 559 from Utah Trikes since July 2020.
Love it. My question can we add the Dumont rear suspension to my 559?
The Dumont rear suspension can not be added to the 559
Love my expedition
we're so glad!

that's why we always recommend doing a test ride! It's the best way to know what will work for you!
I like
I hope catrike will integrate the MGU Pinion when it comes to America in 2025…
. The composition was good. The delivery . . . not so good.
