Tried spraying white lithium grease on the pivot point and after a week or so driving it's really helped the stiffness on the gear stick ease. Neutral will actually spring the gear stick back to the middle on its own most of the time now! Shifting smoothly now. Someone is making replacement bushes and selling on ebay to completely cure the problem if anyone is interested. Just search ebay for "2005-2013 Mitsubishi Colt 1.1 1.3 1.5 CZ1 CZ2 Gear Selector Repair Kit Stiff". Pricey but well made. Thanks for the video, it's helped me at least put off fitting a new bush on the selector for a while. 👍
Wasn't looking forward to dropping the airbox and battery out but your video shows you can get easy access for a good squirt of lubricant. I have motorbike chain grease which is very wet and runny when sprayed to get into the rollers on the chain and when the solvent evaporates it leaves a thicker grease, the linkage is very similar to a chain link so I'm hopeful this will fix my side to side stirring toffee gearstick. I did see another video where the pivot on the base of the gearstick can lack grease so an application there may also help. Thanks for the video,I wonder how much my local Mitsubishi dealer would charge to fix this, probably sell me a whole new selector mechanism with hours of labour.
Great vid. Top dude for posting I've ownred my Colt D for 14 years. About 10 years back, I left it parked on a slight lincline, in gear,,for a week without moving - it was sub-zero temps every night. My gearshift has had problems with being stiff ever since. My local, friendly garage lube the linkage every year and it's normally OK but it started getting really stiff after the 35+ Celcius temps recently. I was changing gear with my right hand or even both hands ( very carefully ) it was that stiff. I tried this, a few day later my shift was much smoother. Interestingly, my shift wasn't too bad it was just after a long drive it started stiffening up badly. Relatively not bad, I don't think it has centred like a normal shift at all in the last 10 years. I wonder if I had taken it to a main dealer, whether they would have prevented any more work by spraying some lube every 12 months? Still, reassuring maybe for any COlt owner that you might be able to go on for years and years spraying a bit of lube now and then
cheers - had a very, very stiff gear shift.... ended up taking out the battery bay and a bit more or the air ducting, but got the lube on those connectors and its as good as new!
Update. Got busy with a torch today and without removing the air scoop I could just see the offending linkage between a water pipe and the air scoop, I gave it a squirt from the front and with a long tube I could get to it from behind, what I used was a graphite loaded maintenance spray rather like WD40 with pencil lead added, I use this on padlocks and motorcycle ignition barrels as the graphite keeps the bits that move moving, if I had WD40 I would have used that, the difference it made was instant, the return of the gearstick from far left or right has never felt so easy.
Update on my update. It's too slick , having had a previously stirring toffee gear shift it sort of slowed me down in the traffic light Grand Prix, now after a day of running my nan around the shops after gave it a good squirt of Silkopen, not sure if it's still available, yesterday it's so slick I've had to go out and buy a Burberry baseball cap wearing it back to front, wind down my windows, crank up the CD player to the max 45 and I'm now waiting at the traffic lights revving my engine incessantly waiting for my next GP victim....
I just this car and i noticed that the gear shifter stick is so hard when you are trying to change the gear. Is this normal on this card or it's some problem with gear shifter stick? I used to drive older card than this and the shifter stick is so smooth and easy to manuver. This shifter on my Colt is so hard to manuver and I'm wondering that something is not right about it
I tried this last night and coated the part you showed. This morning it’s a little easier to shift gears but it still gets stuck wherever you push it in neutral- does it take a few applications and driving to fix this?
It might just take some time and usage to free up. If it remains sticky you might need to replace the bushing in the shifter assembly as that’s what causes this issue.
Hey i have a colt 2009 model and i want to change the gearknov, but i dont know how to take of the original one. I have tried just unscrewing it but that didnt work, does anyone know how to do this?
Hi. I'm just wondering if you would be able to help me out. I have a Mitsubishi Colt 2008 and I've never noticed until now but I have only 1 reverse light lighting up when I reverse. Should there be 2? I tried googling this but couldn't find an answer anywhere. Thank you.
Thanks for the info. Does anyone know how the main air box comes off, for better access? I've undone one screw from the back right side and don't know what method is needed to pull it off the rubber holders. Brute force or a certain technique of which way to pull/slide? Thanks
Just imported a colt ralliart to Canada, and noticed this right away. Thanks for this video. Still helping out all these years later

If I remember correctly there is only one reverse light. The light in the same location on the other side is the fog light
@@reid04151 great, thanks very much!
That part that he removed from his engine.....anyone know where to find one?
I know its been a year but Ive just removed this and lost it! It’s called the air duct, can find it on ebay for around £20
Can a wd40 do it? Or any better options?

From what I can remember you push it towards the engine to unclip it, they were really stuck on mine so took quite a bit of force.
Thanks.
What is spray name?
I used 3 in 1 white lithium grease spray
Bit too late, scrapped mine😂 for more then I paid for it.
Didnt even work one bit
