The mildew is from your snow globe breaking. Ask me how I know.
Me too, wanted to let you know about the water from the snow globe
Me three! 😉
I was thinking the same! Haven’t seen anything else in your basement mildewed before. ❤
Me four
Me five 😂
Great decllutter! Was the item that broke a snow globe with water inside? I wondered if that little bit of water could be what caused mildew to grow on items. Or what has happened to me in the past is I put an item in storage that was washed and dried, but was not completely dry so the moisture locked in a plastic storage bin caused mildew and it was in the house not a basement or garage. I enjoyed my break watching you declutter, now it's time to get back to painting.
I think you are right about the water.
I agree. I think it was the water from the snow globe that caused the damage. 😊
I learned not to store snow globes where they may freeze. The same thing happened to me and my stuff molded. I now store them under my bed in the off season.
Great point! 🤩
Mold from the broken snow globe?
I was thinking the same Barbara. And trapped inside the plastic bin encouraged the mold.
Water from the snow globe is probably the cause of the mold.🎄
Sorry you lost the globe. If it had water in it that would explain the mildew. Love your colors. Beautiful. Have a good day.
Hi Karen it's Penny I watch your videos all the time and enjoy them so much I was watching you going through your Christmas decorations and if that was a snow globe that broke that could be the moisture that got on your fabrics and didn't get on everything but keep up the good work you're you're so inspiring to me I love to watch your videos thank you very much I'm h
Thanks, Penny! I’m so glad you are here! 💞
I agree with the others regarding the mildew and the snow globe. I also decorate blue and silver alternating red and green, one year elegant, one year down home country. It all cepends on my mood.
Great declutter Karen. I bet the globe that broke is what caused the items to mildew. Been there, done that myself. Lesson learned. Thank you for the great motivation. ❤️
Yes I think you are right!! Thanks for being here with me, Cindy! 💐😍
This Declutter was great!!!!
Thank you so much for joining our collab and I am so excited that I was introduced to your channel and you!!!
I was going to say that the moisture was probably caused by the broken snow globe but it looks like someone beat me to it!
I also think that the little maroon trees will work perfect with your decor. They are just red enough but not overwhelmingly red!!
Thanks for your hard work for this collab!! Love your journey! It will inspire so many! ❤️
@@ThisMainerMom ❤❤❤
Basement gray moving IS scary 😂❤
Yes it sure is!! 🐭 Thanks for stopping by, Erica! ❤️
Hi Karen! So glad to do this collab with you! Those joy pillow covers are pretty, but yes if they are not comfortable they are not practical. I like the blue color! I like decorating with non traditional Christmas colors. I like using colors that match my year round home decor. You did a great job decluttering! Thanks for sharing this motivation!💗
Thanks for the encouragement, Joy!! I love collab-ing all together too!! Have a great week!! 🙌💐
"Basement, gray, and moving..." HAHAHA!
Right?! 😂🐭
Hi Karen, I agree with Debbie about the globe causing the mildew. I had one in my stuff that did the same thing. Thanks for the decluttering motivation.
Yes you’re right Kathy! Thanks for being here my friend! ❤️❤️
I love decorating in gold and red. For some reasons the colors blue and silver look "cold" to be, those decorations make me feel chilly! Strange I know lol.
I had never thought of that but it's true! 🥶
Karen. You could get a humidity meter for basement to see if you need a dehumidifier, especially for all of Robin’s books on the bookshelves. Mild has spores that cause then to bloom and spread for anything you bring upstairs and trigger allergies. Space bags work great for linen storage.
Thanks for the info, Jill! ♥️
My kids and I enjoyed the video. We need to clean to begin decorating.
Thanks Jenny!! We decorated which you will hopefully see this weekend! 🎄🎉
I am thinking that if the snow globe had water in it - that is probably what caused the mildew. I also think packing the linens and stocking together in one tote is a good idea so nothing like this happens again.
Karen, great vid! tY
I majorly purged Christmas decor last yr. Felt superb...when it was done. 👍
Yes it always feels good when it's DONE!! 😍🌟♥️
I went from 10 totes to 5 last year..so little work to get it out this year...
Just found your channel... I too have had Christmas globes break, it was so heartbreaking. That is probably what caused to mold. Now I store them in a separate plastic box and in a closet that is more heat controlled. Cant wait to see your decorations. Merry Christmas
Welcome, friend, I am so glad you are here! I think you are right about the water in the globe causing the damage...ah well! Merry Christmas to you too!! 🎄💖
Hellooo Karen, what a shame about the snow globe 😕 that’s no doubt the cause of the mildew.
I love seeing your Christmas curtain come out! It doesn’t seem 5 minutes since you were decorating for last Christmas! This year has flown by.
Have you ever tried cracking nuts in those nutcrackers?
I’m looking forward to seeing all your beautiful decorations going up. As always my lovely, much love and light to you.🥰🥰xx
I've never tried to actually use a nutcracker! They don't seem that sturdy! Have a great week, sweet friend! 💐
I think I will go through our Christmas stuff tomorrow. Thanks for the nudge I needed to get started.
I hope it went well, Sherry!! 💖😍
I LOVE my Christmas ornaments, it is the one thing I will not declutter or my nativity set. However I did declutter all the other Christmas decor I had. Karen I would be worried about replacing things every year because it can be so easy to get tempted into over buying all those new sparkly things. 🎄
The family ornament is my favorite I think.
Great stuff. I ordered pillow covers since I saw yours ty. When I put Christmas away I use bubble wrap so things don't break. Try wrapping it in that save stuffing from Amazon
Yes, I am very surprised. Didn't remember doing that!
UA-cam is so fascinating. This week I watched some creators who decorated in the most over the top fashion and while others were de-cluttering already minimal collections. It is all so personal so I try not to judge anyone's approach to managing their Christmas decor. I try to start and end the holiday season by going through what I have. Last year I donated lots of cards, bags, wrapping paper and tins and let go of old worn out items. I found myself wanting more light so I purchased flame-less candles and micro light strings which continued to make me happen all winter long.
You are so right! We are all so different and it’s all GOOD! ❤️ Thanks for sharing what you do. I loved hearing about it! 🌹🌹🌹
I have decluttered so much when I pull out my holiday stuff I have bare minimal I'm shocked for about a minute and then I'm kind of relieved
Me too. Now I love everything I have. ❤
Goals!
That’s awesome!!
I adore Christmas and have MANY boxes of decorations- I find it so much easier to put each room ‘s decor in a separate box and pack really well with bubble wrap. This means less breakages as it’s the items moving around that cause them to smash together and break. Look forward to seeing you decorate your home this Christmas 🎄🎅🏻☃️
The same thing happened to my daughter. Her snow globe broke and ruined some of her cloth ornaments! They went moldy and she had to throw them out. That’s why you cushion covers had mildew.
Such a bummer!! Hard lessons. I am not great at storing things. I am always too much in a hurry!! 💐
Had an idea for the thread spool angels. It would be nice to turn them into a garland to hang on the wall. Each one could have a bunting flag behind it to help it stand out. However you decorate with them will be great. Just wanted to share that thought I had.
I love that idea! Thanks for sharing!! 💗
Hi Karen, Perhaps the broken snow globe water caused the mildew. You have some lovely things. Love Jo in Australia xx
Yes I think you are right, Joanne!! Ah well...🤨 🤷🏻♀️ Thanks for being here!! 💝
Wasn't there water in the dome that broke? Could that be the source of mildew?
That was super, Karen! Each year we have our favorites and each year I also get rid of a little bit more. I paint a lot of our decor so those are often changing out as well. It's just an on-going process.
Nice project! I really need to do this! I have sooooooo many decorations and the older I get the less inclined I am to put it all out.
i decorate day after thanksgiving for Christmas. sometimes do different colors, i don't know yet. I'm doing a declutter this year also. but last few years day after Christmas i have removed color & exchanged for baby blue and silver and white and remove some décor. through January.
Those pillow covers are very pretty.
Thanks!! ❤️
Christmas decor ❤
Thank you, Karen.
Greetings from Germany
Thank´s for washing my face. 😂 So sorry about your snow globe. My colour sceeme is very neutral: silver, white, woods a little bit of grey and some blush pink sprinkled in here and there. I use things like cinnemon sticks and pinecones. I´m looking forward to decorate for christmas (last week of November) and to bake cookies and of course the holidays itself. Hugs 💚🌲💚
Haha!! You’re welcome!! 😂💕
So great that you went through things early so you will have a good idea of what you have and will want to use this year. Books and Christmas ornaments are probably the two areas in my home that I don't even pretend to be minimal.
I LOVE the spool angels!
Yes! My mom made a lot of them and she used to sell them. ♥️
I'm a blue-and-silver decorator, too! I've never liked "Christmas red and green." Since I live in a small apartment, I tend to favor seasonal decor (outside of tree ornaments) that is two-dimensional, such as banners, to save space. I also prefer to buy fresh greenery (garlands, wreaths, fir branches, poinsettias, amaryllis) and produce (pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn, etc) to use for seasonal decor. That way I am supporting my local farmers, and I can just send the natural materials to the local compost center after the holiday and I don't have to store them. That said, I do still have two whole shelf units full of Christmas items in my attic! I'm planning to declutter those this year. One thing I do recommend is to use smaller bins. It reduces breakage, because things are not stacked so deeply and you don't have to dig through other items to see what's in the bottom. It also helps make things easier to find. For example, in your case, I might put all of the Christmas stockings in their own box, or maybe combine them with the pillow covers. One box could hold the tree stand, tree skirt, and lights, since those all get used at the same time, before the ornaments go on the tree. For the ornaments, either get a pre-made ornament storage box (they're usually on sale after the holidays) or put them in one layer in shirt boxes that can be stacked in a tote. You could even write the ornament colors on the shirt boxes. This helps you see what you have at a glance.
Thanks for sharing and for your thoughts! ❤️
Last year as I was decorating I really took a look at what I wanted to keep and what I could part with as I decorated. I offered family members what I was parting with and if they did not want them, I donated.
Each branch on my tree has an ornament and each has a story. I don't have a big tree so I know they are important!
I know how you feel every year I go through the same stuff it's so very hard you have helped me so much thank you so much
I'm so glad!! 💗
*Did the broken ornament have liquid?* that would explain the mold 😕
One year I may have a theme instead of red/white/green explosion lol.
Great job Karen!
I made our Christmas pillows from a vintage Christmas tablecloth.
Sounds beautiful!!
I love your idea of organizing each bin by the categories you're doing. Ill have to try that. Maybe this year.
Yay!!
Beautiful Christmas things 😍
Thanks, Judene! 💖
Wonderful video friend! I enjoyed going along with you as you decluttered. We get a real tree as well and it always last us the entire month of December, so I’m genuinely curious to know why you wait to put yours up? Thanks for sharing and I look forward to your next video ❤
I will have it up later this year because my grandkids don’t come til Christmas Day and I’ll be vacuuming it up if it goes up too early!! My decor is up though which will be up soon! 🙌🏵🙌
I´m pretty sure the snow globe water caused the mildew. That´s why only the things on the bottom got destroyed and not the ones on top of your box.
I think you're right! 😳 Ah well!! 💝
My first step is to go through my house and remove decor, to make space for the Christmas items and when I replace them in January they feel fresh and new. I do like to change my theme or placement so I store from year to year just getting rid of damaged or cheap-looking items.. In the long term, I have found buying specialist containers helped me say well only x will go in so what do I remove
Love this, Hazel! Thanks so much for sharing! 💐💕
I would be very concerned about mold and mildew in your basement. There is probably a lot more down there than just the mildew you are seeing. That's bad for your health. You can get a dehumidifier from a hardware store and run it all the time in the basement.
The mildew is from the water in the snow globe
Yes you are right! Never thought of it! 😳
When we first moved into our home we had a pet hamster that use to escape his cage, I found out because I about had a heart attack thinking he was a mouse one morning. 😂
Oh my!! 🐁
With the mildew problem: Did you wash and dry your pillow covers? Maybe they were not completely dry when you packed them...That could have been the cause...Just thinking
It was that snow globe… 🫢
its a struggle to know what to keep and what not. i go with reds greens blues and whites.
At least when the snow globe broke, the only thing that mildewed was the pillow cover you weren't loving anyway.
True! It was a blessing in disguise!! 💞🤷🏻♀️
Maybe the broken snowglobe caused the mildew.
Yes I think you are right, Melinda!😳
Sometimes I wish they would be broken so much better
THE MILDEW TOSS
Mildew sure do make me sure
I sure can let that go
Don't even care there's mildew there
Ain't even mad, you know
That's one decision in my mission
I don't have to make
The mildew toss is no big loss
It's just a lousy break
~by Melinda for Karen
Aw I love that, thanks friend! 🌻❤️🌻
@@ThisMainerMom You inspired me. ❤️
People who comment without reading the other comments. 🤦♀️ How many times do we have to say the same thing, people? 😆
It's all part of it! It's all good! 💝
Snow globe caused the mildew
Yes! You are so right!
So sorry that happened to you
Thanks so much, sweet friend! 🥰
Um, the basement isn't the problem, the snow globe was. That would have been filled with liquid.
YUP!! Most popular comment so now light has dawned on my marble-head!! 😂
🥰🤗🎄🤶🧑🎄🇨🇽
🎅🏼🎄✝️🤶🏼
You told us what you wanted to keep! Except for the girls’s ornaments, quietly pass the rest of them on. Shhh. , don’t tell!!!
You are so right! I kept it quiet and it’s already gone!! 🙌👍🏽
@@ThisMainerMom I am so happy I did not offend you! Sometimes Moms gotta do what Moms need to do for themselves!
Sorry to say this Karen but the way you handle your items makes me cringe, not folding things properly and just plopping them in and than forcing the lids closed. That’s why things are getting broken. Why keep things if you won’t handle them with care? How you handle your items is just important as the decluttering process.
You’re right…always hurrying. I need to slow down. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Jenna! Have a great week! 🌻🌻🌻
