Nico Bereciartua is a musician and composer, Rolling Stone magazine named him one of the best guitar players of Argentina and in 2016 Rich Robinson, founding member of The Black Crowes, asked Nico to join his band. He’s also a really lovely guy to talk guitars with!
His story is an inspiration to guitarists everywhere and his unique playing style is incredible to behold. Here, Nico shows us how to play open tunings and provides some really useful slide guitar lessons that anyone can use to improve their playing while emphasising that feel and playing what you like to hear is the most important ingredient to a good sound.

Pocas veces se siente tanta alegría por un desconocido. Nico trasmite ser un gran ser humano y lo buen guitarrista parece ser una de sus cualidades...una por supuesto muy importante. Su historia es super interesante e inspiradora, y como dice, si a él le pasó puede pasarle a otros, claro está...siempre y cuando vaya acompañado de mucho esfuerzo, foco y pasión. I'm not a guitar player, but lately I've been fascinated with slide guitar because not everyone uses the same finger for it. Like Nico, Rich Robinson uses his pinky and I always found that interesting how some people use their pinky while others use their middle finger, etc. It really changes up the sound, for sure. Great interview!
There've been amazing players using every finger. But I do like being able to use three fingers to play conventionally like I can playing with the slide on my pinky.
Buy a cheap acoustic and start playing slide. Sound great on cheap guitars in open e or g. Fun as hell.

Nico's been a perfect Black Crowes guitar player. And he's played on some banging tracks on the new record.
Which tracks? I was under the impression it was all Rich since he did that on By Your Side and Audrey Freed only played on one. I love the crowes but was bummed when it seemed like two guys and hired guns.
Well I just did some research and wow he is really expressive. I’m glad I saw this interview and learned he’s more than a hired gun. 👍👍👍
