There aren't enough techno marvels possible to deliver us the promised land so long as the economic and political systems they're introduced into still incentivize and reward bad behavior - TB didn't explode in Lesotho for no reason.

I started my Architecture Thesis project last week and have been doing research on historic hospital designs. No joke, the first question my advisor asked me was "have you considered how tuberculosis influenced the design of hospitals overtime?" That's what I'm going to research this week! Anyway, looking forward to buying some tea to get me through this semester!

this week (so far), 76 people died in my hometown from respiratory infection caused by illegal fires, greed from agricultural giants and industry lobby against preventable measures. a video like this is a great reminder that sometimes, the solution is there, but a tool that you don't use isn't actually a tool, as you said

@@Yourlocalscammer11111 yep! we are 12 million-ish, but still, an uncharacteristic high number for a little time. overall pollution used to be much worse decades ago and it has changed through lots of collective action, but dry season and beef/mining/agro conglomerates do everything in their power to destroy the environment and everyone's health. given the climate change trends (hot end of winter, it's 36°C today, btw) and disproportionate effects in poor countries, the tragedy is rapidly developing

A world in which turbucolosis never needs to even be a passing thought is a world we should live in.
That's not as good for profits as treating just enough TB to keep the market for TB treatment sustainable.

My dad just got tested positive for TB. Thankfully, we're immigrants in a first world country and have access to quality healthcare and medicine. I didn't panic at the news because even though I don't know everything there is to know about TB, I've been watching vlogbrothers for a while and thanks to your unending efforts to bring awareness and change to TB's needless death rate, I've gleaned enough information about this disease to know that my dad will be ok. My first thoughts weren't "oh no this is terrible!" but rather "oh yeah, this is the curable disease John Green is obsessed with!" I'm glad I can say "curable" with confidence given how lucky we are to have diagnostics and medicine available. Thank you John and Hank for your philanthropy and DFTBA!

I was just in the ICU being quarantined for possible TB. I was terrified at first but then remembered John Green and how it's perfectly treatable nowadays. It turns out I just have pneumonia and I'm getting better already with antibiotics.
I'm sure your dad will be ok but I'm praying for him nonetheless!

The coffee and tea are excellent, and knowing the proceeds are helping save lives and not just lining the pockets of shareholders makes it taste even better.
Profit of a company is not directly related with its share prices. The money stays within the company. It gets reflected in the quarterly results, which in-turn may increase the share price.
Plus, dividends. Dividends is the way the actual profits are transferred to the shareholders.
I so want John to go down in history not as the teen romance novelist or the goofy face on the Pizza shirts, but as the one who spearheaded the eradication of TB. You can do it John! We can do it!

I'm an American who had to get a TB test for my university and I tested positive for latent TB! The TB nurse was surprised by how much I already knew about TB and I said "thanks, I watch a lot of John Green, and he's kind of obsessed." Thanks as always for the information!

John the world is changing because of the enormous amount of resources you pour into the eradication of TB, nerdfighteria has been piggy backing the whole ride, watching what an incredible impact one obsessed and passionate individual can have, with a community of supportive followers whom share belief. John is just the one we see on the screen, don't forget about the many many other passionate and obsessed individuals that also help these things happen. I lived in Alaska in the 00s and the legacy of TB is still taken very seriously there. In school, we got TB tests every year.
Now I'm sure there are wacked out moms protesting the tests at every PTA meeting for literally no reason

As someone born and raised in Alaska, it’s so touching to hear about a story from my home state. I never even knew this happened, but it’s so inspiring that we can still use it as inspiration today.

There are so many terrible things in the world that seem unsolvable, it renews my hope in humanity to see so many people coming together to work on issues like high rates of maternal death in Sierra Leone and TB and literally save so many lives, thank you for being the catalyst of this movement ❤
I thought you said “TV is the leading cause of death” and this caused me to zone out trying to figure out the immediate dangers of a TV for a minute before I tuned back in and realized it was not in fact the television, but tuberculosis which does make a lot more sense.

I read on wikipedia "baseball players who died during their careers" and basically most of the pre-1900s players died of tuberculosis
My grandfather unfortunately passed of TB before my mom was even born, in 1958 in Bethel, Alaska. Bethel's tribal healthcare system still needs a lot of help.

When I moved to Alaska in 2004, I had to take and pass a TB test before I could be allowed to work in the school system.
That is actually becoming more standard. In Ohio, to work in childcare or schools you have to either 1)be tested for TB or 2)prove that you have never been to any areas defined by the WHO as having “high burden of
tuberculosis” and not lived *anywhere* outside of the US in the last 5 years.

Amazing things happen when people come together and decide that we are going to take care of our own and profits will not be the most important goal in our designs. People are. When wealth is the only goal, cancer is the result. When people are the only goal, miracles are the result.
I just looked back at my email history because i couldn't remember how long I've been drinking awesome coffee. My first reciept is from the early access launch in March of 2022. Thanks for two and a half years of good mornings! Here's to many more.

John Keats is one of my favorite poets. I visited the Keats-Shelley House in Rome (located on the right side of, and at the foot of the Spanish Steps) to honor him and pay my respects. Among the artifacts of his life found there, there is a life mask and a death mask of his face. He also lost several family members to TB, including his mother. I'm certain he would heartily approve of Keats & Co. and its mission. With the support of the Green Brothers and Nerdfighteria, I know it will succeed. Peace, John. ✨️🕊✨️

I can attest to John's statement on the flavor. I was in the tribe of "all coffee tastes the same" and would buy the cheapest stuff at the grocery store (usually Folgers). I gave awesome coffee a try, and was shocked that plain drip coffee can actually taste good. It's incredible. I can't go back.
