    Would you be worried about the rot in the walls coming back again? Or are they dormant because initial damp is rectified? Great work man!

      Hi Barry, no I wouldn’t be worried because we have surveyed it and addressed the problem then installed the correct system in place to stop the conditions that allows Dry Rot to germinate.

    Hi mate, I have some mycelium growing on a wall and soil in the subfloor. Interestingly, there is a concrete floor in the adjoining room. Do you think there is something about a concrete floor next to a timber floor that can create conditions for dy rot?

    What chemicals did you use to treat the dry rot and how did you know it was in the wall?

    • @dampsam
      @dampsam  2 роки тому +1

      There are specific treatments sold by the manufacturers for dry rot and we use one of these. We do an id survey then an extent survey where we cut patches out of the plaster to see how far the strand have gone, these can be in the mortar and behind plaster. Once we have done the survey we can write a report and quote for any treatment and work.

    What boards have you used for the flooring? And did you spray those with a fungicide before laying? Thanks

    • @dampsam
      @dampsam  4 роки тому +2

      Marc F the board are pressure treated chipboard, these are pre treated and can be bought from builders merchants, the ones in the film are caberdec .
      All other timbers were double vac pressure treated from a specialist.

    Why use the cement behind the plaster board next to the chimney and what was in the cement mix?

    • @dampsam
      @dampsam  4 роки тому +1

      It’s a barrier system to stop salts, chimney breasts need a waterproof barrier system , some use render then slurries we use NatCem which is pre mixed and blended.

      @@dampsam natcem 35 or a different one? It's well expensive isn't it

    • @dampsam
      @dampsam  4 роки тому +1

      rozzer it’s NatCem 35 but we also now use NatCem tank, it’s only expensive if you waste it, you can skim it the same day, there is not many waterproofing products that can claim that. The slurries will take you 3 days just to apply if you do it right along with waiting times.

      @@dampsam I bought a new house and want to use injection cream. Gonna be really expensive to do whole house in natcem. What would you recommend the cheapest way to do a full downstairs

    • @dampsam
      @dampsam  4 роки тому +1

      rozzer you shouldn’t need to put NatCem on a ground floor unless it’s below ground. Cheapest way is the express replastering system using the plasterboard. It’s also the quickest

    Actually there is no such thing as dry rot. All rot is caused by moisture. The wood may be presently dry to the touch, but if the wood is completely dry the fungal deterioration process stops. Most professionals just call it rot.

    • @dampsam
      @dampsam  4 роки тому +5

      Thanks for your comments they are interesting but wrong, we know that it’s commonly referred to as dry rot and we know how it spreads having specialised in timbers. We also know it’s name is Serpula Lacrymans and the conditions need to be right for it to survive. Most professionals agree to call it Dry Rot as it’s is commonly know as this and has been so for hundreds of years. Most professionals also agree that when talking to customers it’s best to used language they understand easily. Thanks for watching

      subtitles ha ha. on a serious note i have bad dry rot in a lower ground flat. we have stripped out, where the masonry is we have been told to drill every 15cm to irrigate with treatment in case the strands are within the brickwork where we have hacked off the render. is this necessary? Gonna be a thousand holes!!@@dampsam
