One thing I always do for auditions because I’m solely telling them the truth:
“Hello ! My name’s , and seconds/minutes before stepping into this room I was really nervous !” And I always seem to get a laugh out of the audition panel. If they still laugh I give an adlib of how it feels to be in front of the panel during the audition - it usually is me feeling less anxious because it’s happening.
I actually really like your reply. And it helped me alot but by the end of it I was talking about how I had to pick my mom up from the mental institution not cuz she lived there but because she worked there...
this is a clever way to get a read of the room before you start ! awesome tip

Would learning new languages count as my passion ?
De Generals of course! If it’s something that you’re truly passionate about. Even though it may be true for most of us, during the audition, we shouldn’t tell the directors that “acting is our passion/dream”. They already would assume so. Telling them that, would make it come off as somewhat “desperate” in way

I absolutely love this question. I wish they asked it more, I got a callback from a full 10 min video of me answering. My tips are: write little things you're passionate about or love (I love nature, painting, music etc) and this will naturally make you smile and have amazing energy on camera! If they're things you really love they might even make you laugh and you'll just be interesting by your energy.
Tell me about yourself. “Oh, Jeez. This question. You know I watched a video last night about how to answer this?” (crickets) “.... and now i’m telling you about it” (crickets) “OK i’m gonna answer your question now....”

Lmao yess
I find it refreshing to find artists who ARE Desperately longing for acting work and will do their absolute Best to please. We all understand that ego NEVER has any place on a set. Period.
Them: Tell us a little about yourself...
Me: I'LL BE ASKING THE QUESTIONS AROUND HERE!
I went into an audition expecting just to stare my name and songs, sing my little ditties and leave- but when the director asked me : Tell is about yourself- I actually relaxed and was surprised!
I think I might have smiled and said happily “OH, that’s nice!- or thought it. I shared briefly- my personal family situation, my job- and pulled to back to why I’m auditioning- because I enjoy watching my kids and supporting them in theatre- I wanted to have fun and audition and be in plays too.
I did make the call backs and later after opening night - cast party - I asked the director what he saw in my audition and he said I had so much joy and excitement “I don’t give a d*mn, you’re gonna like me attitude, and I have fun in my audition- seemed like a lot of fun!” That helped him make his decision.
I’m contrast, the next show I auditioned for my confidence was low and I didn’t have the same interacting with the directors - they just stopped me halfway through and said that’s all. So it does help to have that confidence!
Quick question: wat if (hypothetically) a person has no experience in acting but just wanted to try for an audition. Wat do u put in the resume? And can u still audition?
Nael Park i have that same question 😂
Lia Lara so wats the answer
yh
Nael Park what a great reply
Technically you don't actually need a resume so you could say you don't need to make one but if you don't have one it looks very unprofessional and they may not cast you I would recommend just putting your training that you have even if it's just drama lessons or something from school also if you've been in any school plays put those down too also make sure that you have a good headshot some iPhones allow you to blur out the background so it looks professional (this was a bit long but I hope it helped)
I really wanna start acting. It came out of nowhere but now I'm obsessed with acting!
Great! Find an acting class in your area and sign up!
Tell me about yourself!
Oh yea? *points gun at him*
Ok. No need to. You're accepted!

@@3stinkerdance ummm why don't you?
I had my first audition today and thanks to this video I was so ready when she asked me about myself. Thank you!!
I’m currently preparing for an audition. This video has helped. Thanks a lot.
I actually have always loved this question. I usually stick an “about me” on my resume to take up space, so they usually ask something different, but my go to is “My name is Anaya Weick, I’m 14, I have 2 brothers and a sister, and my favorite sport is Laser Tag.”
Absolutely random stuff about me, but it flows nicely when said energetically and with a huge smile on my face.
I'm 14 too and have real bad social anxiety so I was wondering if you have any tips for that coming from someone my age?
@@marisaparis3443 A quick disclaimer in that I do not have social anxiety, I just have nerves and they’re not the same thing. This is just how I went about it.
When I started, I was sharing things that people could observe about me. “I’m in middle school (well, high school now), I don’t like short-sleeved shirts, etc.”
Once you do that, it’s easier to share more, stranger things people cannot just observe about you. “I collect lego sets,” or “I work at a sandwich shop.”
Try to stay away from things that don’t influence your personality, make you look bad, or give off too much information. “I carry a backpack because I’m severely allergic to peanuts and can’t leave home without an epipen” does not influence their opinion of you. “I have failed 7 tests in my life” doesn’t sound good, and it makes you look self-conscious. “Whenever I eat a tomato, I get an awful nosebleed.” is too much information. Save those for when you develop a relationship with the directors/cast. Just say something fun about yourself that shows the directors you are a personable, likable individual.
As for social anxiety, I know nothing I recommend can “cure” it, but I do something called “The 20 seconds.” You force all your confidence possible into the first 20 seconds of your audition/presentation, and by second 21, I’m no longer nervous. It doesn’t work for everyone, but it works for me.
That’s kind of all I can recommend, but I wish you the very best of luck.

How did it go?
I found practicing answering this question with different unique stories about myself helped me to create a tool box filled with stories to bring up and allows me to be more comfortable in auditions.
Going on an audition Saturday. This helps a lot. I never did this before. I have played in bands so I had to act out an alter ego in some. But I am excited about this.
I remember CBS one day at a time bug conference. Yes I was kinda ashamed of my upbeing. Now I know I can utilize this experience, thank you

They cracked. and i got the role hehe : i have done the tip about saying something funny without actually planning it. SO I was doing this excercise with the casting crew, where I scream '' give it to me'' and i should keep going up in tone and anger....after we finished, i said , ''oh that was easy , i do this with my husband all the time 🤣''
Lol recently had an interview and confidence is key. I messed up a lot of the questions asked but I stayed calm and composed. Most importantly I looked confident. They asked me at the end have you got any questions? And I said "When do I start?" 🤔😂 Regardless of how much I thought the interview had went downhill the question I asked made him laugh and he said "I like your confidence." I ended up getting offered the job later on that day. Just have fun, worst case is that you have auditioning experience. 😊
I went to your website - I've been a professional actor for 35 years I just learn all I can to audition better. Not a hobby. Part of what I do for a living.
Thank you! Funny enough some of the roles I've been offered were because I told funny stories about my life and the casting departments LOVED it. I really needed this to help me connect the dots and I'm excited to better crush auditons with this in mind!
That's awesome!
I had a woman auditioning for a supporting part in a movie. After she's done (great audition), I asked this, she gave a big smile and said "I'm a mom of 7 year old triplets, I have 2 cats, I do zumba, and I am an avid foodie..! After this I'm going to the pizza place across the street" and we laughed. I loved how genuine that was and the part she's auditioning for was a mom! The director also loved her attitude and she got the part ⚘⚘⚘
It has been my dream to become an actor since I was 7 I am now 11 , I have an audition for Nickelodeon tomorrow, but if I don't get in I can try again next time. And this video helped me and made me felt less nervous.

I can't wait to work as an actor
My acting coach said not to talk about your personal life in auditions and only talk about what acting jobs you have done, so I'm a bit confused by that. If a casting director asks you "what have you been up to recently?" what are you supposed to say? Are you supposed to just say what jobs you've done because surely they can just look at your CV for that? But then apparently you're not supposed to talk about your personal life? I'm confused :(
Charlie Smith well, don't go into the audition and start talking about your personal life, and how your day has been. But if they ask you about yourself, talk about yourself! If you just talk about jobs your have done, they will think you're boring, and don't have a life outside of acting! Just answer the questions as they come, don't think too much about it. Hope I helped a little 😊😊
They probably just want to know about your hobbies
Well I mean by personal life they mean like personal things they dint really need to know I assume, mayne your hobbies?

Very well articulated ....issues apply to all interviews....especially project positive confidence....attempt to show vulnerability that is sincere...everyone relates to true, honest vulnerability
what if You say: "If You tell Me about YOUR Self, ill tell You about MY Self!"
Ehhh...I wouldn't. They're short on time and I don't think they'd like me steering the moment in a direction they didn't choose. I'm there so that they can see if they believe I'm a good risk. Remember they're risking a lot on everyone they cast.

This EXACT question was posed to me some time ago, HOWEVER i did not realize, at the time that the person asking me would add his personal feelings into the mix, because when i answered that i had been in the military 20 plus years his face waxed over and i could tell that i was not who he wanted to have any dealings with. Then he asked me how those years could possibly translate into a role for his film and why. (Ironically, It was a military type role.) I responded that when i had my platoon it was practically all acting because i had to get these young men to do things they thought they were incapable of doing. Needless to say, i did not get the role so they gave the role to a much younger gent .
Thank you so much for this!!! I’ve got an audition coming up soon and this actually made me so much more confident!!!
