Recently received my copy and been struggling with some of the rules but in this episode you have already clarified one of my questions, looking forward to the entire play through
Thanks! In the meantime I received some comments from the designer, which I will talk about in my next episode but overall I seem to got it right (mainly) ;-)
jPlay Well, there’s a lot to sort through in this game. It’s a ‘long learn!’
Great video, sir!
When using the Treasurer Fleet minis, if you want to maintain that "thematic look" on the game board, do not place a Treasure Fleet token on the board when called to do so. Instead, simply place a Treasure Fleet mini.
Then, when you get around to engaging the mini, then reveal the top token off the Treasure Fleet stack and place it on the board as normal. This method simply lends to keeping that "minis cool factor" on the board as long as possible, considering that a redundant cardboard token sitting under a mini detracts from that cool factor.
Totally agree but I am not really using the minis myself when playing the game - it's much quicker simply using the tokens ;-) But for the full experience you should use the minis, yes :)
This the most beautiful game board I’ve seen yet. Is this still in print, & are there solo rules ?
Thanks much! It's unfortunately not in print (it never was), but afaik the designer is planning another Kickstarter, that will also include a new expansion.
Great video, great game. Thanks for this
Thanks for watching along!
A co-op pirate game? Cool beans!
Yes, that's really pretty cool! But you can also play it competitively or with a traitor (saboteur) :)
Maybe, but I doubt I could get my daughter to play it competitively. She does not like games where we directly attack each other. Cooperatively, on the other hand, I have a good chance of talking her into it!
Yeah - you mentioned she's more into coop-gaming. But yes, you can play it purely cooperatively by taking out the saboteur mission cards :) Have not tried yet, how challenging this is it but will certainly do :)
Well done video.
Thank you!
So cool seing this. Insta follower 😊
Thanks for watching and more important for following :)
'Let's get kraken!' hahaha
I also have this game. But how i did the setup, i did not had naval ships right from the start... Does it say so in the rulebook that you also be (possibly) putting naval ships in the setup phase?
The way I understand it, you shuffle in ALL the remaining ships (minus the 8 naval ships you put aside, minus treasure fleet and minus pirate hunters) into one pool and deploy those. I believe Tom is doing the same in his setup demo video. Hope this helps!
jPlay I just re-read the rules and you are absolutely right. The setup part does say that you separate 8 naval ship and stack them on their place on the board. So there is still 10 left of them to shuffle with the merchants and pirates. Good that i watched your video! :)
Thanks !
Thank you!
Would you recommend Pirate Republic or Blackbeard Golden age of Piracy for solo play?
