    This was fantastic! My first synth was the Juno-6. Got a great deal at a music store in 1985 who wanted to get rid of it to make way for the new Juno-106's arriving shortly thereafter. As a 16-year-old, I learned what I could from the manual and had my basic set of sounds. Kept it mint in a homemade hard case for 22 years, but wasn't using it much with my newer gear due to the lack of MIDI. Eventually, I sold it in 2007, thinking it was the "responsible" thing to do since it wasn't getting used. I was ok for about 4 years until my interest in knob-tweaking was rekindled and my regrets for selling my JU-6 set in heavy. During my search for another one, I saw a series of videos by Marc Doty and learned several things I never knew about my own synth! Eventually found one for $400 and grabbed it. Did a tear-down and thorough cleaning and will never part with it again. Now today, your video has taught me even a few MORE things I didn't really know about this wonderful synth. Time to grab it from its case and try out some new sounds! :-)

      Thanks very much 🙏🏻 ..and what a cool story, I can't imagine a better 'first synth' for a 16 year old.. I'm still very much 'in love' with my JU6.. I actually have a walk-through + a demo 'noodle' on that one here on the channel too 🤓

    Wow... Thank you so much!!. I finally understand how to use this thing and I saved my factory preset sounds to logic. I was trying to figure out how to load your sounds (end of this video) but couldn't. Using a Scarlett Focusrite with output 1 selected but don't know how to from the UA-cam video. Unless I make an audio wav file of this video then try it from logic.

    • @tonelab
      @tonelab  2 роки тому +2

      You're welcome 🙏🏻 .. well depending on whether or not you have Windows or MacOS, you need to go into Control Panel (System Preferences on Mac) and go to your System Sounds.. in there you can configure the 'system' to use the 'system sound' source.. or select your audio interface.. by default, any audio your computer plays should come out the audio interface 👍🏼

    I don't fully understand the relationship between VCF Cut frequency and VCF Env slider, is this like a mixer that splits the frequency level between the env flow? Like 2 different senda in a real mixer (in addition to LFP and KYBD)

    • @tonelab
      @tonelab  9 місяців тому +1

      Consider the VCF Envelope as automation for the VCF 'fader'. However, if you have your VCF 'fader' up too high.. then, generally speaking, you won't hear the VCF ENV 'making changes' to the VCF fader, because it's too bright. 👍🏼

    • @daniel_dumile
      @daniel_dumile 9 місяців тому +1

      @@tonelab thanks for the reply. Ive been using a (poorly documented) Juno-106 plugin (air jura) and noticed the envelope seems to peak / sustain higher than the maximum set on my VCF fader which confused me. For example when env fader is totally off it makes one sound, then env on it plays at a higher frequency.
      So I started watching videos of older Juno’s it modelled to see if there was a reason. Maybe it’s just the plugin and not the keyboards.

    Hey Tonelab, love your Oberheim DX video. Question about my Juno-60. When I record out from the mono and the stereo output jack simultaneously, the output marked "stereo" is non-existent in signal form in my daw. It's just form the mono channel. I know the stereo channel is just supposed to be the chorus here, but I get nothing showing up in my daw on the second channel. I'm recording it as stereo. Am I doing something wrong? It seems there's no difference between hearing the mono channel and plugging in the mono + stereo.

    • @tonelab
      @tonelab  Рік тому

      Thanks 👍🏼 ..both the Mono & Stereo jacks should be sending out the same 'signal', unless of course, the Chorus is engaged. However, what you're describing sounds like either a functional issue with your 2nd output.. or, perhaps, just a simple case of the 2nd stereo signal not making it 'in' to your DAW. So, I suggest 'test' both your Juno outputs with a pair of headphones.. if you're not getting signal from both, then I fear it's a 'repair' job for a tech 🙏🏻

    • @danielperkins7311
      @danielperkins7311 Рік тому

      @@tonelab I just tested with headphones. Same signal out of mono and stereo. So that's good. And actually I'll walk back what I said, I do get a signal from both mono and stereo hitting my converters, but in Logic Pro it only records audio from the mono channel. Even when I have two separate audio channels set for the "mono" output and the "stereo" output. So this just might be DAW/user error. It's just the "stereo" output shows no signal in the daw, but it does on my converters. Hm. When you record both channels out do you show a signal for both two channels pretty evenly in your daw? Thanks for your help!

    • @tonelab
      @tonelab  Рік тому

      You may want to check your settings on your audio interface, or it's control software. It may not be a fault of Logic, but something to do with the interfaces 'gain' settings. If the Chorus is enabled, then a fluctuating Stereo signal can be expected 👍🏼

    • @danielperkins7311

    • @tonelab
      @tonelab  Рік тому +1

      Oh I definitely said 1982.. might be my accent 🥴 It's a little bit like explaining 'wine tasting', some people have their own preferences of course.. but, 'my ears' prefer the Juno 6.. I found it to have a little more 'bite', and the Low's a little more rounded, less 'mud', more definition.. the 'Chorus' effect options have different speeds to the 60 as well, so I found i resonated more towards the 6.. than the 60.. the 106 is a different animal. But, the 60 is very convenient having the 'Patch Memory' and Tape Interface. 🙏🏻
