3 videos in less than 24 hours? Oh yeah, we’re back!
Editing in the hotel room during this trip!!
I have a 10yr 114.7 proof.. It has a dark fruit note that really enjoy. Will definitely buy another if I see one. Great review.
EC serial# guy here...long time no post. 😁 I was excited when I saw this video pop up, since I love EC barrel proof releases and picks, the regular EC Toasted Barrel batched product, and enjoy toasted/double barrel in general. I JUST picked up one of these @ 9yr and sub-120 proof, but haven't cracked it open yet. Here's the crazy thing, though: back when I had "the 'vid" in early 2021 & after losing taste and smell for several weeks, once they finally started returning, *everything* with a naturally "roasted" kind of flavor to it (black coffee, dark chocolate, dark beers with roasted malts such as porters and stouts, etc.) smelled and tasted like burnt rubber to me, for months afterward!! It was wild. Thankfully, with time, that slowly abated. So although I don't have the same aversion to toasted/double barrel finishes, because of that experience, I know exactly what you are talking about...
This is funny. I looked for hours over a few different occasions trying to find a whiskey that had a sawdust vibe to it, because I love that smell so much. Never did come up with any concrete suggestions.
I've gotten one and really enjoy it. It is a 10 year at 123 proof with a nice cola note.
These are AMAZING. I can't wait to try more. Only had the NC pick 8 yr 125 proof
Something I wonder is if we could ever see an ECBP batch that is toasted. The nature of single barrels is that they can vary in quality, so I’d be very curious what a batched version at barrel proof could look like.
As for the whiskey as it exists, I grabbed one of these last month, 10 year 117 proof. Admittedly I’m a toasted and DO lover, but it might be my favorite whiskey that I own. There’s a nice cherry that lingers throughout, while a majority of what I get is a great pancake syrup and butterscotch, breakfast type flavors. The oak is not overpowering at all but definitely lets you know it’s there. It’s more like a nice desk compared to a cheap one. I absolutely love it.
The bottle I have is 8 years, 127.1 proof and absolutely delicious
Try before you buy. I have an 8 year, out of curiosity, and it's fine...not for $90. Definitely some of that woodshop vibe. Just get a non-toasted one, IMO.
Glad you reviewed these. Bottle 1 was my concern for these; a forced young, saw dust kind of oak char profile vs enhanced wood character adding further depth
Nice review and advice. I say if possible try before you buy. Mine is 9yrs old and 114.6 proof. It’s got a really nice nose and the palate is a little nutty, charred sweet oak, caramel, vanilla cream, and followed by a nice spice. Decent pour but I wouldn’t buy again. Cheers!
The pick I grabbed tastes just like a beefed up version of the normal EC toasted release. Really enjoy it.
Really enjoying a 9 year 10 month 124.8 for $110 + tax from California Food Mart in Norcal. Liked it enough to back it up.
Good to know. Harry tried to convince me to get a back up. I’m doing it for sure now.
@@KareemHubbard-cs5ip If you’re in the Bay Area and want a sample, let me know.
Just picked one up tonight. 10 year. 123 proof. 100 bucks. Hopefully it’s as good as I think it will be
Great review...Much appreciated!!
I got a bottle from one of 4 barrels allocated to Md. 10yr 121.2. Thought it was a nice pour much better than the standard shelf bottle. 🥃
I just tried an 8 and a 10 year old picks this past weekend and both of them were super hot
I just grabbed a 10 year 119.7 proof pick from Binny's. The jury is still out on this one for me. For the price, I can't imagine I'lll pick another one up unless it's an absolute banger.
I was able to sample both picks at a local store. The higher Proof was hands down better and was bottle that I purchased. Cheers 🥃
What did you think of the EC Toasted rye?
I have an 8 year 127 SBBP TB from them too. Totally agree that they have this rubber flavor. Almost scotch like. I hate it. But I don’t think they taste anything like a double oak which I love. Peerless DO or Woodford DO taste like a Carmel pancake. This bottle is not that at all.
If they let the NEX do a Veterans pick, then I would pick that up. I’ll just keep an eye out and see what happens.
Have a local pick 11yr 127.5pf that is delicious.
i’ll probably get one soon😊
Cox Evergreen generally does great picks .. abc probably got handed that barrel or was a reject from other picks
I have tried an 8y pick and it was ass. I’ve also tried a 9y pick and it’s one of my favorite recent pick ups.
Being a VA resident, I doubt VA ABC puts much effort into their barrel picks. Kind of like Total wine picks.
I got one at 10 yrs 114.4 proof for $85. I thought it wasn’t as good as an average to decent ECBP A/B/C batch. Was a bit of a let down for me.
is it a true SiB, where they finish each barrel in its own toasted barrel then bottle, or it it an aged small batch that is single barrel bottled from the toasted barrel?
@@haydencollins4284 I'm guessing the "single barrel" is the toasted one, and composed of more than a single original barrel. That would stretch the secondary barrel, otherwise these might be even more prohibitively expensive. But that is just a wild speculation.
$100!? I thought the regular SiB at $90 was pushing it.
Well i wish i would have seen this b4 i dropped 120 bucks on it.
That's steep. I paid about 100 with tax, but I'm pretty happy with my purchase.
I cannot do toasted or double oak i get this crappy old popsicle stick taste
Just a little guy living in a little world.
I haven't watched it yet... but if he doesn't say yes then this channel is shilling the wrong products. I don't like regular EC Toasted, but the two picks I've tried are absolutely incredible. I'd actually say they are better than PVW 10 and 12.
Oooh not a fan of the rubber smoke. It’s why I don’t like McCallen or Highland Park. That drag strip burnt rubber in whiskey is not my thing.
That's what I thought he was talking about, burning tires but he said rubbery BBQ 😆 I don't get that at all from double oaking, but maybe peated scotch.
My local Costco had one that I picked up. 10 years 117 proof. Tasted way too astringent for me.
How much at Costco?
So essentially… the government sucks at picking bourbon. Add it to the list of shit they’re bad at
110.00 bucks. It can sit
I'm uncomfortable with how tight your watch band is.
What a wild comment

Rubber note doesn’t exist.
