I don’t know why people are so pressed by this comparison. I think they make it clear in the video that they are completely different vehicles and would suit different situations/buyers. Great review. The j6 looks great.
The J6 hasn't officially launched in South Africa and this is the first one to touch down, Chery's homologation vehicle. When the AWD dual motor version is made available, we will compare it against a Defender, Grenadier, or similar. [Chad}
I came from Indonesia, both cars are available here. The price of 2wd version of Jaecoo J6 only like 10% higher than the Jimny, and the awd version is only around 20% higher. With that, you get biggger vehicle, bigger power, higher tech and features and so on. The AWD version of J6 is very capable for light off road track. Many local youtube chanel already test it.
Guys these two cars are direct competitors in terms of vehicle category. Yes the price points are different but that's because of the drive trains difference not capability or necessarily class of vehicle, great reveiw as always.
Chad had his favourite from the word go but that's ok. Trying to seem objective, his bias does come across in his delivery. That being said I do like the Jimny. It's a tough little bugger that's made for the rough stuff with no pretension. However, comparing a RWD with a 4WD vehicle in the rough terrain is not acceptable. For the sake of testing and fair comparison, Chad should have used the 2H mode (RWD) on the Jimny. Keeping in mind Jaecoo does have a dual motor 4WD variant for these tough terrains.
The J6 Rwd is actually just a tad more expensive than the Jimny in Asian countries, like less than 10k usd more expensive, no way its more than twice, but then again Suzuki Jimny is highly bloated due to its popularity.
Sadly, it comes down to import taxes, and if i'm not mistaken, the rates are as follows: ICE Vehicles 18% EV Vehicles 25% South Africa's government does not provide incentives on EV's, but it's possible to be implemented in 2026. IMO, it should have been implemented years ago.
@@Yenhongsin77 the price could very well be similar, but based on the taxes and duties it’s highly unlikely. Many EVs are almost twice the price of their ICE counterparts locally. We will only know once official pricing is revealed.
Actually the price in indonesia not quite different between jimny and j6. The highest model price of jimny here was 467 million rupiah in 2024. And the highest price of j6 in 2025 is 565 million rupiah for all wheel drive type. I dont know what currency you used. You can convert it. NB : there is curently tax free regulation for EV Car in Indonesia, perhaps that also affect the pricing here
This Jaecoo J6 EV looks rather challenged as compared to when it was tested in China - but it looks good otherwise 😅 but otherwise thanks guys for this review 👏
to add to that, I think we should resign the EV 6 from the Jimny's position and just let the Jimny continue do it's thing, you know what I mean? 😆👏 let's rather leave the EV 6 on tar than on gravel 😆🔥
Why don't you compare the J6 IWD version with dual motors? It has strong off-road capabilities. In China, the IWD version of the J6 even set the fastest passing record on some off-road roads, far stronger than some hardcore off-road vehicles.
The J6 hasn't officially launched in South Africa and the example we have here is the only one in the country; their homologation vehicle. When the AWD version launches and is available, we will compare it against something suitable, like a Defender or Granadier. [Chad]

@@Boss_Diary because of the various import taxes, rebates, and concessions around EVs, it’s still inaccurate to convert from other currencies into ZAR.
Due to our local duties and taxes, it's not possible to compare it with foreign markets. If the pricing is similar, I can completely understand someone choosing the Jaecoo instead. [Chad]
hoping the j6 price is more aligned with its value in other countries. 850K would place it comfortably above a Volvo EX30 - which has better spec. My guess is 550 - 700 range for various models - but maybe that's just wishful thinking.
So, you compared a RWD-only model vs a 4WD that did as badly as the RWD car (while driving in 4WD 4H)…. and you had to resort to 4L gearing in 4WD to get past the same obstacle that the 2WD car eventually managed to get up. Sure. Ok. Whatever.
@@000T00b surprised us too. Even though the J6 has more power, the Jimny’s low-range meant that it was able to negotiate the obstacle easier. Chalk one up the the cheaper, older, less-powerful Suzuki.

How did the Jimny go doing same course in 2WD? Which would have been a fair test. Why not compare a bicycle on the course to a Land Cruiser??
