  • Charts and graphs are the default for data analysis, but some data sets require a little more humanity. What do you call a hairpiece worn by a man? How southern was William Faulkner? Carrie Roy answers these questions and more though sculpture, woodwork, fiber arts, photography, and even virtual reality.
Carrie grew up on a cattle ranch in southeast North Dakota and received her BA from Harvard in Visual and Environmental Studies. Carrie forges art that bridges the capabilities of computers and the creative touch of humans. Her humanities research explores turning complex works of human expression into numbers.

Which is why studying is different from learning: new data can be memorized in any time, but being able to apply the data to reality is a more challenging thing to do and it's what true learning is. Art combined with tech can be very useful and beneficial to the learning process because it's a multi-dimensional approach to data.
