Just purchased the new 2021 Speedy, it’s super comfy to wear and I honestly don’t notice any sharp edges. I’ve not worn any of the previous versions, so perhaps sharpe edges is just a personal thing! Great channel by the way😁
As an Omega dealer, I have to agree the edges feel awful. We sent our models back and requested more of the old hesalite models instead. Its a shame because the movement is so much better. We have heard that they will be better in the coming productions

People need to understand that fanboys of a brand need to be more harsh in their score because they love the brand. They want the brand to succeed and telling them their short comings is a great way to improved the brand. It’s called tough love. It’s hard to hear someone say negative things on the stuff you love but it’s important to see the truth.

As a neutral I find this topic interesting. Havent owned an omega in 30 years. As for ads. I’ve paid for the premium option for a while now after getting it free for 4 months with a new phone. Background play is great too. Hard to go back.
Easy solution here. No sharp edges on a Grand Seiko, tongue in cheek. (Mind you a GS chronos are large and expensive).

As someone who was looking into a new Speedmaster I thought it was something good to know. It doesn’t make me want one less. It just makes me think, I need to be happy and try on the one I get. I love the videos and content, keep up the good work.
I’m afraid you can’t win with a lot of the omega fan boys. They don’t want to hear your honesty so let them get on with it. Once they start getting a rash from the sharp edges they will wish they had listened.

In fairness, nobody anywhere has complained of rashes or cuts from the new speedy case that I am aware of. I don’t own the new one but one thought I had from the first video (after feeling the sharo edges in another watch I own) is that it feels sharp when you look for it but doesn’t ever feel sharp when I wear it.
Glad to see that there’s a watch enthusiast on UA-cam who differentiates between luxury goods and Veblen goods.
Firefox gives you a free ad block for UA-cam. It's about 99% effective. Stop apologizing for it. You had mentioned that before when the Interstellar debacle happened. Always grateful for your advice, it gives us collectors a heads up. And helps us look for pitfalls. I whent to the dealer and tried one. I didn't find the issue but I'm glad I looked out for it. Maybe the dealer refinished himself. Or Omega heard and corrected the problem. Or maybe QC is spotty.

You are entitled to express how you felt when trying the watch. Bringing this to the attention of others was the right thing to do. You could have remained quiet but why? Everyone experiences differently and you are entitled to express how you felt.
Ive never heard of a speedmaster b4.. im new too watches really, was with a friend on Friday looking for watches he was looking at this watch we both tried it.. first thing i said to the dealer was.. jesus thats sharp!
My AD in the US agrees with you. I was in my AD (who sells Omega, Rolex, and several other Swiss luxury brands) and asked about the problem on the bracelet you discussed. He said he had also noticed it--almost cut him. He thinks Omega will have to do a recall, but who knows.
Jesus. It was a fair comment by you. Message was try it on before you buy it. I was pretty pleased for the warning and will be on the look out for the issue. That's why I watch these videos. I know way more about all kinds of watches than I did before. Knowledge is power. Simples.
Omega has fixed this problem with the sharpness, now it’s beautifully finished. As of 2023 now with a push adjustable clasp, very comfortable bracelet, so really nice piece.

Totally agree, the speedy bracelet pulls on arm hair. Shave your arm hair and it’s a comfy watch or swap it for a nato strap.

I own the new Speedmaster moonwatch. Respectfully, I gave no issues. The case back raises the watch so the edges come nowhere near my skin. If I try to cut my thumb with the edge, perhaps I can, but I can do the same to my thumb with my Rolex Submariner bracelet, my Montblanc pen, or my Ray Ban sunglasses. Who does that? Dudes in Italy strolling by the empty uninhabited apartments along the water? Love your channel, one of my favorites on all of UA-cam, but this non issue is a dead horse 🐎
Having bought the speedy last week i do notice the edges in some places are sharp but for me personally they do not affect me!
Psychology professor here. Objections from recent purchasers are a perfect example of cognitive dissonance. People like to imagine that their attitudes (likes vs. dislikes) inform their behaviors (i.e., buying a really expensive watch like the new speedy). But in reality, people often adjust their attitudes to reflect their prior behaviors, not the other way around. Cognitive dissonance is stronger when the behavior requires greater allocation of scarce resources. Great content, btw. Really enjoy the videos.

I just went to my omega boutique here in Houston and the speedie they showed me had quite the aggressive edge on the case. I definitely understand what you were talking about now.
So i was bout to run out and get it and then saw your video. It made me realize that even if it was a certain percentage of watches that had bad edges, that would be enough for me to rethink it. It shows omegas overall quality IMO. They must fix the issue. I don’t want to own a bmw that half the owners have problems with and maybe I’m the lucky one. Fit and finish is EVERYTHING.

These and most other watch cases are made on C.N.C machines and they use a tool bar,a tool bar has an insert for either a four or three sided cutting insert.It is not too difficult to miss the point at which the cutter starts to blunt and needs the insert to be rotated to the next good edge.Standing (or sitting) in front of one of these machines ALL DAY,is mind numbing I know because I've done it and an operative may only be required to check one in a hundred cases for faults.So it's hardly surprising that some faulty ones slip through.Do Omega A.D's check every watch?I doubt it,perhaps they should.........................................
I'd love to try on a watch before buying, but all the dealers in my area never have watches that I am interested in. It's channels like yours that I rely on for sincere opinions and experiences. Keep it real and forget about the naysayers.
I was totally shocked when you brought up people complaining about your video having too many commercials. I was literally going to complement you last week that I NEVER see any commercials in your videos i respect you for not selling out, I enjoy your work because you treat it more like artwork then just another throw away video about watches on UA-cam. Hey Oisín! Love your videos. I know you probably won't read this but I bought my Omega Speedmaster Professional (Sapphire-Sandwich) in December, 2022 and noticed the sharp edges (having not seen your video). I've got a 2020 RolexvSubmariner Date and 2021 Rolex Explorer 36mm and don't have this problem. And for a laugh, I was using a stapler the other day and the stapler slipped on the table and hit my suit cuff, pushing the Speedmaster a little up my arm and yes, I broke skin! It hurt! Haha
On a side note, I've accidentally dropped on hard tile each of my Submariner and Explorer (about 4-feet) flat on their crystals because they slipped out of my hands due to them being so smooth (they are fine obviously and tough as nails, just a few scratches). So if you're a klutz like me, rest assured, your Speedy's not going to slip out of your hands!

So.. went to my Omega AD and tried on the watch.. I swear to God they looked at me funny* when I was checking out the bracelet and the back of the case. Almost like a “It’s ok right??” type of look. Are they reacting to past customer experiences? Your video? Production adjustments? Last minute product improvements? Who knows, but I do think that they are paying attention to this.. I tried on the new and old Speedmasters as well as the FOIS (discontinued but they had one in stock). The FOIS is the superior watch in my book 📚 Keep up the excellent videos my friend. You are either on to something or keeping Omega in their toes! We all benefit either way 🙌🏻

When the latest version on the Omega Seamaster Diver 300 came out it too had sharp edges. I remember visiting the Omega boutique and feeling how uncomfortable the bracelet was. I recently tried the Diver 300 at the same boutique and the watch bracelet had no hot spots. Perhaps it’s an early batch situation with Omega watches.
Oisin, I was surprised to see you wearing that custom Seiko diver. I started my watch journey by modding 6309 and 7s26 divers (about 15 in total, some are homage watches). Now I’m collecting the real deal. I still enjoy wearing those watches though. My learned skills of modding and now performing a complete service on them makes it all the more special for me when I wear them. It’s part of me, if that makes sense.
I also have that King Turtle. I took off that ugly cyclops and changed the hands, and changed the bezel insert and chapter ring for lumed ones. You should see mine in the dark!! Yours looks great on the strap.
I got a whole other level of appreciation for this channel....

Man. I am so sorry that you had to deal with all that! Welcome to the sorted world of luxury watch owners! I remember once on Instagram i made a comment on a very very expensive watch, basically saying that I thought it was really ugly and I didnt get all the hype. It wasnt a comment on anyone's page or watch, it was on a forum magazine. Oh man, people got sooo upset. Aggressive even. I was stunned. What this shows is the motivation that people may have for buying the watch in the first place. If you buy the watch for you, you aren't really going to care what people say about it. If you like it, you like it. If someone else doesnt, well then they dont have to buy it. And it doesnt matter if its a Tudor or a Casio. Now if they buy it to please everyone else, or to impress everyone else, then if someone doesnt like it for whatever reason, suddenly its a problem. I personally really enjoy your honesty and the ability to enjoy watches that are inexpensive as well as expensive. Hang in there. We're with you.

People went absolute nuts calling it clickbait, and saying you were anti-omega, you had an agenda, and you talked a lot. Well...maybe they were right about the, "talking a lot" part. I love your walk around videos.. Always interesting to watch and listen to your thoughts. I wouldn’t stress over the comments that disagree. I have a similar issue with a new Seamaster Professional 300m. The bracelet and case have sharp edges and new engraving of the Omega on the clasp is rough to the touch. I am waiting for the store to reopen to return it.
Please don't worry about the naysayers Oisin, I'm really glad about the fact that there's someone like yourself who is independent and honest and courageous enough to speak up about a problem. I hate sharp edges on a watch so much that I have been known to take my Dremel tool to the clasp or case to fix it. Thanks for your honest warning about these pieces. They should know better. I appreciate the honesty and integrity here. I think the point about 'confirmation bias' is well made. We all do it and it's very understandable. But it doesn't justify rude or disrespectful comments. 'Before you buy it. Try it.' No-one could disagree with that.

I checked the new moon watch today at an AD in California. It feels like a bur along the edges of the links from a polishing implement applied in a downward direction on the sides of the links. I couldn't feel it until I ran my finger along the underside of the links from the midline toward the edge. I found the same along the edges of the case.
Oisin, it is my subjective opinion that you are a well educated and intelligent gentleman with refined aesthetic sensibilities. It is precisely the artistic and subjective manner in which you interpret and share your observations that draws me in.

And I'd add that everything you said in this video is spot on. I did tell you that I bought one after hearing your thoughts and just didn't see what you saw as I considered it. I appreciated the insight, but it wasn't what I experienced, and I went ahead bought one with that insight. I've wondered if your experience with the 4 in your shop was maybe different than others - I have no idea how quality may vary watch to watch or run to run or whatever. Who knows? Only mildly care.
Guarantee that you're right about why some others were disagreeing with you - for all the reasons you state. That being said, I couldn't care less at this point. I LOVE what you do, but in my truly humble opinion, I'd just love you to say your thing and go on to your next thing. I can't imagine what my human nature would make me want to do in response to comments on my UA-cam channel, but I'd love to see you just reply to some comments directly and then just move on.
I look for your new videos almost every day. When one pops up, I can't wait for new content. I really don't want to rehash debates, even if you are right. UA-cam is filled with debates, and it's tiring. I'd rather you let those who disagree just disagree, maybe comment on their comments (really appreciated, actually), but let your video stand on its own and move forward with your next thing which people can love or hate.
All that being said, you are correct in your general perspective that we should all do what we think and feel, when it comes to buying watches or making UA-cam videos, so you should definitely do your thing. From my own selfish standpoint, I'd just rather not waste time debating those who want to debate for their own reasons and just get on to more of your own uniquely special thoughts and content.
Whatever - will always love and support you - just some thoughts that are no more relevant than anyone else's.
