I own most of Mike's resin baits and absolutely love them all! He puts a lot of thought into each and every one of them. The ABS ones are very good for beginners that want to get into swimbaiting. His bullshads (resin ones anyways) are designed to be burned right under the surface with your rod tip like 1in above the surface then you can give very short pauses or breaks in your retrieve.
Been faithfully watching ever video for atleast 3 years now. Its honestly the highlight of my week when you video drops. All the way from South Africa.
Thanks for the videos. I say this sincerely as a compliment: you help me put my girls to sleep. I appreciate the mild language and your calming voice while you carve, paint, and/or fish. It's very wholesome. They watch your videos before bed and it helps them relax and wind down.
@@mattp334 that is a subjective question, but in my experience with them a lot of their stuff works pretty well. The soft plastics definitely catch fish, but aren’t crazy durable
already have caught a 30# Blue Cat off of these (going to try to get a 60#+ next year). ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 Definitely very strong, and sharp. Additionally, the gap is wide enough to actually hook a fish (not always the case with circle hooks). I purchased the 8/0, but probably should have got the 9/0 (they seem slightly smaller than other 8/0 hooks). Additionally, having the point in-line helps if you drift fish. I have yet to get a serious snag with one of these hooks.
Marling's now inspired me to not only spend last winter learning to carve and paint my own fishing lures, but now I'm gonna do a jointed lure. I still paint with spray cans only, but that's my "challenge mode" choice.
Good luck making any small details or blending color like the pink stripe down the side of the rainbow trout design on the bait in this video. Its not just a solid pink line, its lightly blended with the other colors. Or the holographic light blue spot on a bluegill's gill. Theres literally no way to do any sort of finesse color blending. Spray paint is made to cover a large area. The smallest dot you could even feasibly make is larger than a quarter. To think a spray can is the correct way to go when an airbrush is almost the exact same principle except your nozzle is made for extremely fine details (such as a 2 inch lure) and you can actually choose your own color instead of being stuck with less than one shelf of spray paint colors, is just the wrong idea
The bull shad was actually the reason I got into bait making because they were near impossible to get in Australia, so I started making my own then changing the design to suit the waters here.
I have the bull Shad’s, and gills and they stand up to northern and musky in Wisconsin, not the craziest lures, the paint does chip but they do last, they’re extremely practical baits which is prolly one of catch co.’s better collabs in general. Their owner Ross Gordon hit a home run with that one. I tell him that all the time when I run into him
Yo! I’ve got so many fishies on the Baby Bull Shad! Lunker Largies (obviously). But, I’ve also used it for inland saltwater fishing and caught over-slot red, flounder, and speckled trout. Even hooked (but not landed) some huge snook! Once, I hooked a small-ish tarpon on one, but didn’t check my line for freys… Anyway: Solid bait that’s great for a lot of different waters and target species!
Im gonna catch a ton of hell for this but googans Jr contender has been crushing it for me this year, the swivels built into the treble hooks have made fighting wiper much easier!. Awesome to see you checking out stuff us mere poors can get ahold of though!
i love these swimbaits, and they come with fantastic hooks that give you a great hookup ratio. the only downside is that the bristle tail can sometimes come off after a few fish, which ironically makes the swimbait kick harder. its still kind of disappointing, so i add extra glue or put a little jb weld on it to keep the tail in place.
This was cool to see since you have so much bate experience, very thorough review. Outsourcing products, you only deal with the manufacturer if you can generate the CAD designs yourself. Then ship out orders. Though you lose quality control and have to mend things with $.
Thank you for getting me into bait making I watch your videos and try to make what you make but end up failing horribly but I will get better eventually I really enjoy making baits and watching you whenever a new video pops up I get exited and watch the whole thing maybe one day I can make a good lure and send it to you thank you very much
Good review. You get to strut your stuff here, (knowledge base, manufacturing, sales, etc), more than you do when you're being modest about your own baits. That tail slot looked like an inverted T which made me wonder if the fin is extruded in a strip then slide into the slot and trimmed to shape.
You got me into the real technical aspects of fishing. 2 years in, I'm "The Guy" in my hometown on rods. Ill be making one soon. My first. Might even name a swimbait rod the "Marling". What setup you using here? Can't help myself, i gotta know. Its my thing.
I want one of your handmade lures! Do you ever sell them? I don’t want to resell it I truly want to fish it! Live in Oregon btw I’ve watched you for years, I know your stuff is not really geared towards our species but still would love to have one…
Mike Buccas definitely a pioneer in the Swimbait world. Super nice guy in person. The one glide off the shelf that kicks ass in Massachusetts is the 6th sense Draw.
Just curious. Which would you prefer in a swim bait? Joints with stainless connectors? Or joints with that 'fabric' material? What about Marling baits making a swim bait with the fabric joints?
I suggest buying a fly fishing net for your kayaking adventures, it’s such a big help when dealing with better sized fish, I caught a 30 inch pike on a yak and there was no way I was getting him up without a net, of course just a recommendation
An idea maybe, look up arrow feather cutters. It's like a hot wire that cuts the feathers on an arrow in whatever pattern u want. U could theoretically make something like that to cut tail fins that are made like this lure with bristles. Might be something to experiment with. 😮
I love watching your channel knowing all the places you are and the places you fish. Everytime you post a video I make my fiance look and I say "look the famous fisherman is at so and so" :D
Ok I was nervous to watch this video because I love those swim baits and I know that you would give you true honest opinion about it but watching I’m glad to hear good stuff about it from you and that makes me even more happier with my purchases of those baits…this honestly is a very fun video and I would like to see more of them specially with the popular lures and baits and brands that have a lot of here and there about them!!! Thank you for your hard work sir, keep going!!!
I was just thinking of a Halloween lure idea today, a green pumpkin mold so you can make it a green pumpkin soft plastic. Or just a pumpkin carving that's green with a crazy lip or something, haha. 🎃
Someone has probably already said this but I think it would be pretty cool if you did a visual tier list so that we can see where the new lures rank compared to ones you’ve previously reviewed. Right now it probably wouldn’t look like much but I just think it would be cool to see a huge tier list in the future with a bunch of baits on it. Anyway Love the videos man, keep up the sick baits and great work
Nate! I think it would be a really cool idea to tie a fly or for sure a treble hook with chip hair! Maybe a chip paint scheme! Love the content! You continue to inspire me!
I remember buying Rebel Pop-R lures for $3.50 and Rapala minnows for $5. That was a long time ago for sure. But $15 today for a lure that works sounds like a fair deal.
Nate, were you in Florida recently? I saw a truck with an Epic Bait Molds decal and your logo decal on it, the 2 treble hooks. Was in Brevard county on my way to Orlando. Tried looking for your logo decal to put on my truck but haven't seen it anywhere. Is there somewhere to buy one?
If you want to know what the tail is on that bait I used to work on entry doors what that is is a brush sweep for an entry door that's why all the hairs are aligned they have coarse or fine sweeps and I think that's just a fine hair weather sweep
You’re 100% right. I started with the Mike Bucca Bull Gill and then I just recently purchased a 6th Sense Trace 6” Swimbait Fast Sink 4K Shad for $40 from Dick’s.
I've been watching your channel for years now, and I love the way you do what you do... the creative liberties you take to some of your lures are something to be studied. however I have never seen you try and make a pleco lure...pleco are a common fish tank catfish with flat bottoms. perhaps you could make a pleco open pour soft plastic. Maybe there top fin could pose a unique challenge. IDK Im not a bait maker
I’ve had hand foot and mouth disease before as well, all my toenails and fingernails fell off…..didn’t know what I had at first and severely scared myself. Hope all is well!
I got hand foot mouth from my son a while back it sucked. It was like swallowing glass from the blisters in my throat and the blisters on my feet were like if you had walked all day with bad shoes. I feel your pain...
Thats the exact lure that i would have bought….im such a sucker, for a rainbow trout pattern 🙄🤷♂️ Also…as I think you saw…fish will still come to an empty feeder, for a while, even if its empty because of the Pavlov effect, and the mechanical vibrations of the feeder. It would make sense that, they’re picking up the rumbling in their lateral lines…Very cool. 👍👍👍
I actually bought a couple of these on Saturday and all of the bristles fell off on one of them. My first attempt at replacing them did not go smoothly, that’s a very narrow slot those bristles get glued into.
From one bait maker to another. Thank you sir for the unbiased review.
Baby bullshad putting in work!
I think a betta fish lure would be sick if you need an idea
Especially with how crazy he works with colors
aquarium fish fish lures 😳
@@CaraCreations1000 a lure shaped like a aquarium betta
Hell yeah!!
Now I would love to see that
It's official, Marling puts more effort into lure reviews than other youtube channels.
oFISHial*
Now he needs to duplicate the lure he buys to see which of one is more official. Big box store brand or marlin baits.
Thanks for the Bull Shad love Nate!! Xoxo
I totaly agree
@@mengkhang1037no need for him to duplicate it when he has a plethora of his own ideas that he works to perfect in his style of fishing.
I own most of Mike's resin baits and absolutely love them all! He puts a lot of thought into each and every one of them. The ABS ones are very good for beginners that want to get into swimbaiting. That’s how the baby bull shad is supposed to be fished too. Early spring and late fall they smash this little thing!
You should do a 1 hour, 10 hours, 10 day fishing lure challenge or something along those lines, that would be super cool
That would be really cool to watch actually
Been faithfully watching ever video for atleast 3 years now. Its honestly the highlight of my week when you video drops. All the way from South Africa.

My 5 year old walks around sometimes saying "ONE DAY!"
the pain on your face when pondering a googan bait... it spoke for us all.
do googan baits suck?
@@mattp334 that is a subjective question, but in my experience with them a lot of their stuff works pretty well. The soft plastics definitely catch fish, but aren’t crazy durable
I have never understood the hate, because everything they make works. I think it’s new kid syndrome. Everyone hates the new kid.

Honestly better then a master brand airbrush kit

Awesome Lure review!!! Nice switch up of content! It was very enjoyable to get an expert bait makers insight on a production bait.
Pheww..i thought for sure that pike put those trebles right in your polkadotted hands. Cool to see an honest and thorough review Nate.
They're about to open up a Scheels in Chandler, AZ where I live. I'm kinda excited about it!
Nice love that you change and do different things every video like lure review, micro baits, big baits, and my favorite one days!
I love watching videos while tying flies I’m only 13 so I’m pretty slow so your long are amazing
The bull shad was actually the reason I got into bait making because they were near impossible to get in Australia, so I started making my own then changing the design to suit the waters here.
Lure review from Marling always exciting!
You are the real, bait maker,, you are honest, on your own baits, and others

Always love your content, and your choice in music. I caught your Oliver Anthony reference at 17:50!!! Heck yeah man!!!
Dude at this point I'm just happy to see you still cranking out bangers. I haven't been fishing in too damn long.
Great video idea man! Would love to see videos like these sprinkled in with your bait making vids every now and then.
No ferris wheel? That and the coffee is the highlight of my Scheel's trips! 😂
Dig the “store bought” bait reviews 👍🏻

always a treat when i see a new marling baits upload
I love the change up, keeping it fresh
Let's see a bristle tail on a bait in the near future. I've got faith in you🤙
I am so glad this year is back up and waiting for it
I heard Oliver Anthony lyric casually thrown in there! Love it!

You should try making a gator 🐊 top water lure ! It might not work well but it would sure look dang cool
MORE Lure reviews!!!!! Seriously, so enjoyable.
The Savage gear duck is great! I was surprised at how well it's done for me. It turn me into a bird lure guy!

If you don't mind answering. What kind of wire do you use for your line ties. All I had was 18guage aluminum wire and it is not sturdy enough.

ever consider using a lip grip for handling toothy fish when unhooking the lure?it's much safer
You’re crazy late on the Mike Bucca buddy; LOL! They been catching hogs for a few years now.😏 Good luck on them shingles. Hope you feel better soon.🤒
Hey cool video idea buy cheap lures and use stuff around the shop to spruce it up or make it a bit better just a thougyt
New Buzzbait version of this life just dropped today on Karl’s!
'I'm in a position to sell lures for ridiculous amounts of money...so I don't. " That's laudable. Maybe a charity auction someday?

love this type of video please do more
