    I like the idea of Evercade. My problem is that the cartridges they sell only come with one or two games that I'd want to play.

    • @retrotechdad
      @retrotechdad  2 роки тому

      Very legitimate concern! I've found that it allows me to focus in on the library they are offering and possibly discover new gems or give a game another chance but I totally recognize that is not for everyone! 🤗

    Wow props to you for opening up this unit. I'm always worried I'm going to break stuff when I open things up. This is a very interesting handheld that I didn't know I needed. The dedicated TATE mode buttons are what sold me. Thanks for the in-depth look. I really enjoyed your input, and seeing your beefy collection.

    This is nice to watch. Thanks for this review.
    I collect Evercade for a little over a year now. They are getting better and better content. Who would have thought that Evercade owners were being able to play Streetfighter II, R-Type and In The Hunt in 2022?
    Who knows which company wil join the fun next?
    In the past Blaze released the Neo Geo X Gold in Europe. Although it wasnt a succes and SNK wasnt happy at the time. There is a connection. Maybe SNK is willing to give Blaze another trie since Evercade is getting more popular.
    Anyway sorry for my English spelling. Im Dutch and eventhough English is like a second language in The Netherlands. Its easyer to speak then to spel.

    • @retrotechdad
      @retrotechdad  2 роки тому +3

      First off, your English is fantastic and better than a lot of native speakers. 😉
      Seriously, I think last year was the best yet for Evercade and I'm really excited to see the new ones they've signed on for this year. SNK would be absolutely cool to see on the Evercade. There are still so many possibilities, which I think is part of the fun. I love speculating about potential new releases!

    Just wanted to add, this morning Evercade sent out an e-mail and in particular this news is very exciting:
    "Onto 2023, I have signed 11 new cartridges as of today with several more deals being negotiated as I write. We aim to bring you more variety, more big names, more hidden gems and games from other systems we have not yet seen on Evercade. We have some exciting things coming your way."

    Fantastic video (as always)! I love the concept of the Everdrive, but as I already have too many handhelds (I'm usually a 1-device-guy), my fear would be that it would be collecting dust very soon. Still very intriguing.

    Wow this was very well done, love the teardown too as I love seeing game system internals. Btw when you say you can remove the game with no problems, while true to play I would think trying to save your progress or savestate or even the other functions like the 'hours played' stat on the game preview window would be prevented from working when unplugged.

  • @WMARUoriginal

    I really love the evercade concept, especially now that they have a lot more arcade ports. I would totally jump in if they can merge their home and handhelds in a similar manner to the switch. The win600 has been my go to for handheld tate action via Batocera.

    • @retrotechdad
      @retrotechdad  2 роки тому +2

      I think part of the problem is they have requirements for licensing. I'm pretty sure that Capcom would only allow them to have games on the Evercade if they were digital only.

    Just got my EXP. Love it so far. My only slight complaint is that the screen should be a tad bigger. Other than that, the only thing they should update is the ability to custom button map. If they can add neo geo games in 2023, this thing will be a home run for me.

    Aren't you supposed to get bonus games by have 2 different cartridges inserted in the Evercade at the same time? how does that work with the handhelds?

    • @retrotechdad

      This is an excellent question! I think the bonus games unlocked with two cartridges is exclusive to the VS, unfortunately. I'm trying to look into this.

    From your teardown is it apparent why some systems are overheating?

    • @retrotechdad
      @retrotechdad  2 роки тому

      Interesting, I didn't realize that some were experiencing overheating. I guess that explains the firmware update addressing thermals.
      I will have to take a look again but it didn't seem obvious to me when I had it disassembled. They had thermal pads down but I'd have to check what's going on between the two boards.

    I was very excited to receive mine. The battery life is atrocious. Almost to the point that I am really concerned that I have a lemon. I see that you point out three hour to charge. I charge all night and then it lasts 20 min then the next day I charge the same and it works for hours… idk… should I return and buy again?

    • @retrotechdad

    The manual lied about Lightning Swords..., it was on the Super Retrocade, (released a few years ago) under it's original Japanese name. Btw a lot of people over the age of 40 can't see these handheld screens properly without glasses so makes perfect sense they comes with hdmi out, and it's mostly the oldies who love retro. 😉

    The battery life is killing it for me. Such a lovely device, but I don't wanna have only 3 hours of battery life. Even 4-5 hours isn't that long, but come on, not even 4 hours in most cases. That is not doing it for me! Kinda like the ANBERNIC RG552, which I really love, but don't use anymore because of the 3-4 hours of battery life.
    Thanks for the great in-depth review, though!
