- I recently got a new custom wheelchair from Permobil that is a much better fit for me. In this video I describe the differences between my first wheelchair and my new one.
You make a good point that a person may need a new chair sooner than 5 years, especially after an injury or as a person grows. I wonder what could be done to change the rule?
Maybe getting a new script from a doctor?
Doing a yearly review to discuss any alterations or changes

I lifted my friend like you said to, she was super impressed.
Then I tried to do a wheelie in her chair (she dared me) & failed miserably. She said I'm the 1st person she saw that falls off SIDEWAYS.

Hello! Great video. I'm t12 incomplete SCI post 22 years!! I was in same situation way back when fitted for my first chair. It was huge and HEAVY!! I was fitted at the time like you with the assumption I would gain weight and not be as mobile as I am today,. However, lol, I remained very active, and still to this day and able to walk with forearm crutches short distances. My second chair 5 years later I dictated the measurements and all is well! Just a note,came out of rehab In a 20 inch wide hospital chair.could live with a 16 wide chair that doesn't weigh 44 lbs with out leg rests.been slowly trying to adjust to me,seat height,etc.congratulations on getting it right finally. My wife spent months in kessler west orange so I know they never would have sent me home with such a poor fit as what I ended up with
Congrats on the new chair. Whoever scripted Winona should not be let near the job of scripting chairs for paraplegics. OMG , I see this so much in American videos. What is going on. As an Australian 44 year wheelchair veteran, this makes me sad. For future reference, all things being equal, you could easily go 1 inch narrower, and with your level, even an inch or 2 lower back. I'm a T12/L1. Contrary to what some OT's think, the lower back improves your posture by making you sit upright, almost as if you were standing.

I'm actually still ahead. I had less then a 1% chance to walk again if I made it through the 18 suregery after rolling down a hill in a beverage golf cart at work.

Two years later...I had Jay Gel cushions for years, it seemed like the gel settled and became less supportive a month or two after I started using them, but, I guess Jay Seating gave the people who prescribed the cushions to me kick-backs because I kept getting them until my current chair that has a seat that was actually designed to support me and not just to treat common symptoms of prolonged sitting. My Matrx Elite E2 Deep is also so much more supportive than previous seatbacks, which were SO uncomfortable that I never bothered to learn what they were/are called.

chairs are expensive, so insurance will not buy them but every five yrs, and repair the chair in 3yrs. the front casters are the biggest problems for chairs that allow the wheel to sling water up into the bearings resulting in a caster hanging up in a short amount of time. this chair casters are notorious for that. it takes time to figure out the set up that's best to keep water out, even tho the bearings are sealed they don't last long if u run through water holes or get caught in rain storms or using your chair in the winter where someone has put salt down on sidewalks.

Liked your video on opening doors but wondered if you had any ideas if I'm in power chair and have upper body pain and weakness and unable to pull doors open unless very light door. I can push them open using my footplate of power wheelchair to help push a heavy door but am. Unable to. Pull a heavy door open. Any suggestions

What size backrest did you go with? Also what name brand of Back rest and cushion did you get? Would you recommend The cushion and back rest you got? The a t p I is coming monday and I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row So I know what kind to order

Hi. I might be getting a wheelchair (were not sure what it is but it's like my leg stopes working) do u have any advice?
I am getting my first chair and my advice would be to go to a seating specialist. Really work with your insurance if you have it. I wore tight pants and shirt so that it was easier to see the measuring tape around my legs and hips. Think about how much you can lift and shop for a wheelchair in that weight range. If you drive, make sure that it fits in your car!

I agree with @Twitch Happens! Make sure you go to a wheelchair clinic and get fitted by specialists there so you can make sure you get the best fit for you. There are tons of videos on YT (check out wheels2walking) about getting fitted for the perfect chair, so check those out to see what all your options are. Good luck!

Hi! I had a taller backrest on my old chair but it was actually causing pain because it was affecting my posture. With the lower more flexible back, I am able to sit up straight and challenge my core and back muscles!

Goto your local bicycle shop for your wheelchair tires, for your wheelchair tires are the same as wheelchair tires. And the cost difference is huge. And the bicycle shop can make sure your wheels are almost trued perfectly. Better in my opinion that a wheelchair supply place. And please tell all your wheelchair user friends this hack.

I am a T12 injury, and I am incomplete... Asia B diagnosed but have some movement in hip flexors and quads

@@JociScott it’s so sad the cost of wheel chairs it’s really breaking me I’m gna die soon n I can’t get a better wheelchair instead they gave me a wheelchair without even saying theyykl cover it80percent unreal . N I’m not picky but it’s just sad no on deserves 😢to have to deal😢with paying for overpriced wheelchair 😢 I’m glad u got one.I hate my life I wish I had the b alls definitely tired of this world 😢
